So I just found out that a while ago someone released an updated and fully working version of SMOD. (here)
This is gonna be fun.

Isn't Valve going to be at GDC this March?
Source 2 news?

I say Steambox and Dota 2 tournament stuff.
The download works, but I keep getting this console error at the end of installation. Has something to do with the VPK changes that the new standalone was trying to implement, as though there's a certain filetype I'm missing.

I checked the readme thoroughly for any references to this, but I couldn't find anything. I have SDK 2006 and Half-Life 2 properly installed, but when I take the unpacked files from my download directory into sourcemods, it doesn't launch correctly, it just comes up with this:

Are these two problems connected to one another? What exactly in my files am I missing, what's holding up the process?

FIXED : Sorry, I deliberately failed to notice that I had to put the installation file into the sourcemods folder before executing it. :v: Never was any good at reading directions. Thanks for the help.

Doubt anything to do with Dota 2 tournament stuff, specifically they're there as part of a panel on the new opengl stuff or something.

Make sure the installer is in your sourcemods directory when you run it. Happened to me too even though they mention it like three times on the page and in the installer. :v:

Can't get SMOD Tactical to work with this; damn shame.
I still wonder why Valve didn't put aiming down sights in any of the HL games, and if we'll see it in HL3
I still wonder why Valve didn't put aiming down sights in any of the HL games
Because there's no point.
I still wonder why Valve didn't put aiming down sights in any of the HL games, and if we'll see it in HL3
no
I still wonder why Valve didn't put aiming down sights in any of the HL games, and if we'll see it in HL3
Get the fuck out.
Half-Life is unique because there isn't aiming down the sights
ironsights are a dumb feature if you ask me
I still wonder why Valve didn't put aiming down sights in any of the HL games, and if we'll see it in HL3
Because ironsights are old hash daddy-o! Look at this, a screenshot from a game made over 23 years ago!

Nobody wants stinky old ironsights like their grandpa used to pay with on their primitive computers, developers today want to appeal to a younger hipper audience, one that lives life too fast for down-sights aiming.
But if you want to live in the past and buy games with ironsights with your social security benefits, fine by me, but don't make us relive the past for the sake of your creature comforts.
If Half-Life 3 ever comes out, I hope we see Barney again, not seeing him in ep2 made me kinda worried.
Sights aren't needed. For HL3/Whatever 3 I'm mainly hoping for a graphical upgrade. Adding some environment destruction would be nice, too.
The one thing I'd love to see added is climbing ability. When you jump and the next level is just high enough for you to grab the edge and pull yourself up. I think it's unlikely though, Valve's mostly linear design and all that.
Finally and this is maybe "casual" but having grenade and melee (hitting someone with the back of your weapon) buttons could make the gameplay more fluid. Keep the specific weapons selectable for more melee power and alt fire.
Speaking of iron sights, did anyone else spend several minutes trying to use the red dot sight on the SMG during their first playthrough of HL2?
Having a dedicated grenade and melee button would be alright. I hate having to switch to the crowbar every single time there's a board or grate in my way, and I hardly ever use grenades during combat because I have to switch away from my gun.
And by "melee", I mean you quickly swipe with the crowbar without unequipping the current weapon.
And you think I don't have quickswitch enabled?

Or you can enable fast weapon switch and you can simply use the scrollwheel to get to whatever weapon you want with ease.
Someone made a "quick-crowbar" button for gmod a while back iirc
there is a HUGE project going on where the guys behind the original codename gordon are remaking it. can't wait for it, the original was awesome.
you'd be surprised at the amount of people who still go in the discussions forum, including x-tender (the original programmer)

that reminds me, and this is a bit off topic, but what happened to that platformer that garry was making back in the day?
Facewound? That is looong dead.

That happened to me a few times after playing games that you can do that
