Decay also claims that Dr. Keller was responsible for running the anti-mass spectrometer too high
No it doesn't. Decay says it was by the administrator's orders, just as Half-Life did.

Wait hold on. When in HL1 did anyone say that the admin wanted the AMS to be set higher?
Was it that beginning part where the 3 scientists were talking to you?
Wait hold on. When in HL1 did anyone say that the admin wanted the AMS to be set higher?
The Administrator has always been held responsible for the proceedings of the experiment. Half-Life shows he was an instrumental figure in it being run the way it was, "deviating" from the standard procedures, with the scientific team answering to him:
SCIENTIST 2: We've boosted the anti-mass spectrometer to 105 percent. Bit of a gamble, but we need the extra resolution.
SCIENTIST 3: The Administrator is very concerned that we get a conclusive analysis of today's sample. I gather they went to some lengths to get it.

SCIENTIST 1: I'm afraid we'll be deviating a bit from standard analysis procedures today, Gordon.
SCIENTIST 2: Yes, but with good reason. This is a rare opportunity for us. This is the purest sample we've seen yet.
...
SCIENTIST 1: I don't know how you can say that. Although I will admit that the possibility of a resonance cascade scenario is extremely unlikely, I remain uncomfortable with the---
SCIENTIST 2: Gordon doesn't need to hear all this. He's a highly trained professional. We've assured the Administrator that nothing will go wrong.
There's also the random post-disaster scientist idle line "I suspected this could happen, but the Administrator just would not listen," implicating the Administrator's responsibility (whatever his motivations may have been) for allowing the experiment to go wrong.
For reference, this is the discussion in Decay:
ROSENBERG: I've been talking to Harold. He seems to be under the impression that you're planning on running the anti-mass spectrometer at greater than 90 percent. You realize there is a reason for the safety buffer.
KELLER: I understand your concern, doctor, but the Administrator was quite clear.
ROSENBERG: The Administrator is a bureaucrat, not a scientist. I did not design this equipment to be run at such high intensity.
KELLER: This is not your decision. Now, if you wish to stay and monitor the experiment, so be it. Otherwise, you can go back to your little labs over by the train yard.
Decay simply reiterates the notion that the scientific team was worried about the analysis, but their concerns were brushed off by the Administrator's desires.

Gman pressured breen to make the frequencies stupid so that the crystal pops and shit happens
How many pages will this thread get to before the HL3/Ep3 title debate kicks off?

There's no debate, it's going to be Ep3, you'd be stupid to think otherwise.

Well, that depends if it's gonna be direct sequel. They can easily left Ep2 as the last HL2 game with open ending and start the new game in different time settings, maybe even with different protagonist, who knows.
I'm going to do a HL2 marathon, will try to get achievements and shit.
But dayum... the textures are getting dated though, I wonder if there are any lore-friendly retexture/enhanced mod I can use for vanilla game.

This is my favorite Gordon Freeman model out of the ones I've seen. He doesn't look like he's in his mid 40's or has brown memory foam for hair

I meant from a literal button pushing perspective. But holy shit are you on top of your game.

I'd have to imagine it's going to be a direct sequel. Big chunks of the HL2 plotline still haven't been wrapped up yet, and if they were going to go to a different timeline then I would have expected the G-Man to put Gordon in stasis again, but that didn't happen.

They can go about it the Barney Callhoun/Adrian Shephard way. Show us more of the plotline from different perspective at the same when Gordon was doing this or that.
It would be a really bad decision to leave people on a cliffhanger for over 7 years and then release a new game that doesn't have an ending to that story.
Surely that cliffhanger is pretty much the only reason anyone still cares after all this time?

I am pretty sure most people care not only because of the cliffhanger but also because Half-Life was one of the few game sagas that stayed ALMOST flawless to their very last game.

I think the whole Half-Life/Portal "crossover" is pretty exciting too. Also, WHERE IS BARNEY?

Done!
All that remains now is Episode 2. I'm absolutely having a blast doing these.
(Late? "Lol you fucking idiot you should have already done it by now, you suck". GD or what...)
any recommendations for playthroughs of the half life games with commentary worth a shit?

I will never understand how dated graphics can ruin the enjoyment of the game. I got into videogames relatively late, in 2006, and was catching up with all the 1990 - 2005 games in the last few years. Dated graphics never even gave a hint of bother to me. I remember being surprised seeing a graphical overhaul mod for deus ex, couldn't understand why someone would want it.

Lucky you, I guess.
Personally, after I finished playing games like Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3, I was in shock how flat HL2 looks. I mean, 99% of windows in the game aren't windows but textures, including those you can rub your face on. Not that graphics would make certain game completely unplayable for me, no, but when I look at it, I just go, "It's past its best years alright."
Seriously, look at this:

THAT is supposed to be minecart. To me it just looks like block with metal texture on it. And I didn't have to jump out of the map to see this. You are walking in the game right past it.
It was 2004, cut them some slack.
It was 2004, cut them some slack.
I am not saying anything about job badly done, I am just saying that the game graphics ARE getting old, you'd be fool to say otherwise.
Wow a game released more than ten years ago doesn't look as good as a game released a few months ago
I want a refund
Saying "wow Half Life 2 looks so shitty and old" is a bit like saying "Wow Grandpa you don't know how to work an ipad you must be so lame".
Meanwhile your Grandpa was born during the great depression, killed Nazis in WWII, came home and raised all of your aunts; uncles; and parent during the 50's the and 60's, and managed to live to his ripe old age after years of cigars, whiskey, and asbestos.
You're really looking a gifted horse in the mouth when you say it, and you always sound like an immature cunt.
Forget it, I am done.
I am just gonna go with that you guys are retarded, intentionally or not, and stop trying to show my point since it has no fucking results what so ever.
Don't get mad.
Don't get mad.
Already edited my post, can you snip your quote, please?
Dude, you compared the graphics of a 2004 game to that of much more modern ones, and said "Wow this is shit compared to X". Well no duh it isn't super fancy. It was released in 2004, and games weren't fancy like more modern games.

No, I said that when you compared those, you really realize HL2's age. I said that AND only that. If it sounded like I am trashing the game for it, I didn't meant to and I'll never will do that.
how long were the hunters in development? why weren't they used to help protect the citadel?
