Could Valve be working on an engine that trumps all the others... again? Like how source trumped everything else when it came out :V

Am I the only one who really doesn't see any graphical improvement in the tech demo? It honestly just looks like Portal 2's version of Source to me.

Just look at the lighting and the materials. Even with a recording like that the upgrade was apparent. In the pics too.

Welp, I suppose that's it. Our annual/bi-annual spark of false excitement for one half of us, and fulfilling but correct pessimism for the other half of us has come and passed. I'll try to stay interested in Steambox/VR/Source 2, but it'll never be completely exciting, as long as this is still the Half-Life/Portal discussion thread.

The entity env_spark exists in the S2 workshop tools, but doesn't appear to work.
Not sure where I should post this, but I decided to post it here because the Black Mesa thread got buried and I can't seem to find it. [B]-----SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION------[/B] In my opinion, the NPC's MP5 and Spas-12 sounds are pretty much the weakest sounds in Black Mesa. The MP5 sounds nothing like the player's and is also extremely quiet at mid to long range (where most MP5 engagements take place), where the bullet-hitting-material sound is much louder than the bullet-being-shot sound. The Shotgun sound, on the other hand, is extremely loud to the point of obscenity (you can hear it from the far end of a giant map (bm_playground_v1)), and also sounds extremely weird and nothing like a Spas-12 (there's a sort of 'pwow' and Battlefield-style extreme echo sound at the end). So I made a sound mod for BM that changes this. The NPC MP5 has been changed to use all three player MP5 sounds, and the Spas-12 has been given the player Spas-12 sound + pump sound.
