how long were the hunters in development? why weren't they used to help protect the citadel?
I think they are more meant for outdoor fight like in forest or such. They'd have problems utilizing their strenght in urban enviroment.
I still love Alyx's little moment with the Zombine,
Lucky you, I guess. Personally, after I finished playing games like Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3, I was in shock how flat HL2 looks. I mean, 99% of windows in the game aren't windows but textures, including those you can rub your face on. Not that graphics would make certain game completely unplayable for me, no, but when I look at it, I just go, "It's past its best years alright." Seriously, look at this: THAT is supposed to be minecart. To me it just looks like block with metal texture on it. And I didn't have to jump out of the map to see this. You are walking in the game right past it.
Hey i like shit models on decent graphics games, it makes the game funny therefore better
I agree with Dom about it looking old. I wasn't saying that they don't look extremely dated, but rather that it doesn't bother me. I'm sorry that it turned into shitposting :(
I still love Alyx's little moment with the Zombine,
That was the exact moment in the game when I just KNEW I hated Alyx.
That was the exact moment in the game when I just KNEW I hated Alyx.
For HL3 I want less Alyx. I hated having to babysit her through the episodes. I wish I could've left her dead in Episode 2, honestly. Everything in the story would've unfolded the same exact way. Gordon would've taken Mossman's message to Kleiner and Magnusson instead of Alyx. The only thing I could think of that might've happened differently was the Gman's message to Eli, which really wasn't that important. It just revealed some juicy backstory for us. My most memorable moment in all of the hours I've played the HL series was one time in Nova Prospekt when a shotgun soldier blasted her in the chest and her ragdoll flew across the room. Good times.
I'd love to see Dr. Rosenberg return to the Half Life story. I always thought he was a very interesting character and since he made it out of Black Mesa it wouldn't be far fetched for him to have made it just like the other scientists did.
It always bugged me how every major character in the HL series somehow found their way from the remote desert in New Mexico to Eastern Europe. Especially with two alien invasions happening.
It always bugged me how every major character in the HL series somehow found their way from the remote desert in New Mexico to Eastern Europe. I always thought it was through combine relocation.
I always assumed they went up the west-coast, through BC, Alaska and then into Russia.
In my headcanon, the Combine relocated all the population into the eastern hemisphere and turned both the american continents into their industrial powerhouse due to all the untapped resources there, and the reason why the Resistance is in City 17 is because Eli and Kleiner decided to move there to be closer to Breen and find out what he's doing more easily. And that's my theory why everyone in HL2 is American. Except Cubbage I guess.

The thing I'm worried about is that in HL3 she's probably going to be pulling the Batman card. "muh parents are dead, gordon q~Q defend me pls"
I really don't get the Alyx hate.
She's a pretty static character. It would've been nice to see her personality change a little bit after Eli fucking died but that's never going to happen.
I like Alyx but I think I liked the nameless, characterless scientists and Barnies in HL1 better. It's more fun to give the scientists their own back story and try to get them to follow you through the facilities as far as you could. Going back to Alyx for a moment: She was much better in Half Life 2 when she wasn't always hanging around, and it was apparent that she was more of a 'On the ground' agent for the resistance doing dirty work for Kliener and Eli. But when she became part of the central focus... eh. I could take or leave since she lost alot of her mystique and it became really obvious when she went from 'Cinematic, heartfelt Alyx Vance' to 'Beep Boop I am AI shoot combine open door Beep'. I'd certainly prefer Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite, because at least she had some major character growth and I like the adorable sounds her shoes makes when she walks around.
She's a pretty static character.
Elizabeth is a horrible clone of Alyx that breaks the believability of Bioshock: Infinite more than anything else. Despite apparently being locked away and experimented on for her entire life she's a social butterfly that can dance and interact with normal human beings. Every enemy will ignore her despite many of them having the goal of recapturing her or would just kill her just as they would with the player character. On that note, the enemies entirely ignore her despite the fact she is constantly aiding the player even to the point of resurrecting him. She is immune to all attack and danger around her despite how crazy and over the top that danger becomes. She's also a demure Caucasian Disney Princess that has no initiative on her own besides tossing helpful things to the player, occasionally unlocking doors, being invisible to the game's enemy AI, and ripping holes in the spacetime continuum with magic. Alyx can actually fight/be fought by the enemy AI. She has clear motivation for helping Gordon Freeman as she's the daughter of the Resistance's leader. Isn't a generic passive white female supporting character. And performs actions Gordon Freeman would not be able to do himself. Mainly interacting with Combine technology that she clearly grew up with.
Are you saying that you'd prefer having something like Ashley from Resident Evil 4 by your side instead of Elizabeth?
Given how Bioshock: Infinite insults the player's intelligence by having regenerating health, a pointless weapon upgrade system when you are limited to two weapons at a time, and having a fucking button prompt because the game can't trust the player with throwing a baseball--a projectile--in a First Person Shooter, yes, I'd rather play Resi 4 any day of the week. Especially given how Bioshock: Infinite mangles both its racism plot and multiple worlds theory plot to the point of the second being stupid nonsense, and the first being outright offensive.
I will never understand how dated graphics can ruin the enjoyment of the game. I got into videogames relatively late, in 2006, and was catching up with all the 1990 - 2005 games in the last few years. Dated graphics never even gave a hint of bother to me. I remember being surprised seeing a graphical overhaul mod for deus ex, couldn't understand why someone would want it.
Growed up with a crappy PC and played many old games made me enjoy dated graphic. I didn't say it ruin my enjoyment though, I just figured that a game with large fanbase and fully mod-able should have these kind of mods. As someone who mods and makes mod, I love to play the game I played for hundred times with something different. Sometimes even a minor mod can improve certain aspect of the game so much that I could just do another playthrough without getting sick of the game. My last playthrough of HL2 happened when I tried to get the combine soldiers from Missing Information to vanilla game, I always prefer their concept art in RTB so it's a great change for me. There is also a matter of screen resolution, the bigger your screen goes, the more those textures start to become more noticeable. But well, there are also times when nostalgia get ahead of you and you just want to enjoy the game the way it is.
a game from 2003 had this [t]http://gfx.gexe.pl/gallery/418/05264.jpg[/t] read: the swarm of the valve fanboys
I was saying it's stupid to compare the visual quality of a game from 2004 to one from 2014, it has nothing to do with who made the game. I'd say the same thing for any other similar comparison.

I remember this guy complaining about the same things you're complaining about, and you're just quoting him word for word. If you're going to complain about a shitty game at least come up with your own complaints because it's pretty embarrassing.
If you're going to complain at least make up your own complaints.
The hell is with this logic? A complaint is invalid due to how obvious it is between people who have experienced the same thing? I guess critique of the Star Wars prequels can be nullified if many people can spot the horrible dialogue, the overuse of CGI fakery, Jar Jar Binks, etc etc. Maybe think before you post unless you want to look contrary for pointless, nonsensical reasons.

I'd rather play games like BI that at least TRIES to be different, even if at some points stepping on it's own toes.
Sheesh. On the third page and we're arguing. You give shame to the number. Lets talk about what we want from hl3 instead. Some reflections on textures would be nice.
Sheesh. On the third page and we're arguing. You give shame to the number.
I blame Valve.
I blame Valve.
I think everyone is salty because valve hasn't made the move on HL3
I think everyone is salty because valve hasn't made the move on HL3
I am salty because I woke up at 3am. And I hardly care anymore for HL3 beyond point "If it does come out, cool, I guess." I can't stay hyped for something we have no infos about for several years.

Also, does anyone hate the strider encounters in ALL of the hl2 games? They just no fun to fight
