[t]http://i.imgur.com/sddCsQl.jpg[/t] Send help
That's not CM, there aren't any bridges nor ferns in that picture...
Actually when I look at HL2 concept art I wish the game was as dark as it is there and took place in the US, with the desert train in the beginning and whatnot. Maybe I'm just a boring person. Keep in mind though for me City17 is the most generic place imaginable.
America is really bland and you can't really do much with it. Valve chose Eastern Europe probably because of all the design possibilities. All you can make with American stuff is large block buildings with no discernible features, and Valve knew they could do much more. Although the grimdark, green and gross atmosphere would have been nice too. I personally like grimdark but for a lot it doesn't sit well, so I think they threw that out the window cause of that reason.
Surely they chose eastern europe because Viktor Antonov designed it as such?
Probably, but also because it was more accessible. Eastern Europe is more developed transport-wise than the US if I recall correctly.
It's not so bad in the major cities but if you're without a car here in the suburbs, god help you.
Living in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, I know this pain all too well.

It's amazing how places like Boston, New York, LA, San Fran or Chicago differ from each other, there's also stuff like deserts and canyons that I've never seen. Like for me City17 is pretty much the place where I live plus aliens, absolutely didn't impress me in any way.

I'm so glad we got to see that part of the narrative.
i'm having a really hard time differentiating cinematic mod from the original

I really dont like games that take place in the US because I find it boring, yet places like Europe are very interesting, and thats a reason I love HL2 so much.
if you wipe your screen down a little bit but don't totally clean it off the color of the puke provides the necessary color filters to enjoy cinematic mod as Fakefactory originally intended it's an important step in the installation process a lot of people forget, sadly. It looks so much better that way!
No thanks, sniffing on my own poop sounds like a better experience.
All bridges, ferns, and ugly meth botox faces aside, am I the only one who legitimately think Cinematic Mod's maps look good at some points? He at least deserves some credit there. Some credit that is taken away for that uggo alyx model
I'd rather take the earlier versions of Cinematic Mod, before all the major map alterations, the vulgar graffiti, and all sorts of other dumb shit are thrown in and about. And then slap not-shit gun models in. Even if he'd still be considered stupid as hell for it all, Fakefactory should've just 'finished' his attempts to HDify the game and then branched off with a different version that filled in his fetishes and major aesthetic changes instead of just continuing the same mod.
FakeFactory, more like, FetishFactory.
Someone should take his mod, remove all the botox, bridges, porn, postprocessing, and clownjobs, and turn it into an actually decent thing :V
Wasn't that essentially the main objective of the enhancement mod?
Enhancement Mod was created because some people wanted an improved HL2, but the only option is FFCM. They wanted to make a lore friendly alternative. Unfortunately they're in a stasis right now, although they're considering moving to Source 2 which would be really cool:
The HL2EM team is announcing its hiatus, this means active work and production has ceased for the time being. This does not mean the project is cancelled, it just means we're taking a break to decide our future. Importantly we're assessing Source 2 as our next platform, we don't have any special insider information or anything so we're waiting for further information, and it is probably going to be a reasonably long wait. During this time we're going to try and set more concise project goals, likely this project will transform into something more akin to Black Mesa in scope and quality. Source 2 should allow us to freely increase the technical fidelity of our assets to match a visual upgrade worthy of Half Life 2 after ten years, instead of being held back with the same engine it was originally made on.
How do you install FFCM? The last couple of times I was in the mood for porn and upsampled textures in HL2 it didn't even work.
CM typically requires a significant amount of your time and the removal of a small but important portion of your brain to get running I still have visible scars from the last time I installed it all those years ago
Speaking of Fakefactory does anyone have his textures from the v6 of cinematic mod? I need them for something. I mean basically just the materials, thats it.
V6 was the one with the purple naked vampires, right?
If you use the original maps with FF's textures, the game looks really good. Unfortunately, there are some problems like some textures being 4x the size they are supposed to be, and also just plainly missing materials. By the way, how do I deal with missing textures? The console doesn't say the names of textures that weren't found, mat_texture_list 1 doesn't do that either. For example, the added buildings in this map don't look that over the top; the changed color palette might not be everyone's cup of tea, but overall it doesn't stick out as much as a lot of other maps do. Sometimes he crammed so much detail into maps, that a first time player would have trouble navigating the level, because almost no direction from the original level designer is left. Um... is Barney supposed to die in Episode 1 or did I do something wrong? I've finished HL2 and I'm playing Episode 1 in the bit where you're fighting Combine and there are rebels with RPGs and explosions everywhere. Barney opens this door, and I start messing around with the physics and start blasting around stuff. Barney walks towards an open doorway thing, then falls over and dies. There's nothing happening and I'm in this room with Alyx and a few rebels and there's one of those walkway things leading to another building with a crowbar inside it but the crowbar won't budge.
Man, I don't even need texture replacements and all that jazz, I literally just want a mod that goes in and spruces up the 3d skyboxes to look a little nicer (more so than update does, like with more/better meshes) and goes into all the outdoor levels and makes the rock walls/cliffs look natural instead of how they currently are. If somebody did that HL2 wouldn't look nearly as dated, the vanilla interior visuals are still decent (especially with the higher res shadowmaps update has) EDIT: Did HL2 update improve the ragdolls or something? When I shoot CPs instead of collapsing like they used to they kinda throw their hands up in the air and slowly fall, reminds me more of CSGO ragdolls and I like it better

I think all I need to appreciate HL2 again is some thick dose of Smod Tactical. It's dumb as shit, doesn't even pretend to be serious, but it's so enjoyable. At least SMOD Redux is still getting updates, it's nice to see.

The trees and extra buildings make it all look too much like a normal city as well as make it too cluttered. He's completely missed the point of the original design.
