Most of them are straight quotes from Raising the Bar anyway.
It's not like we have any insight to the minds of the developers otherwise, the closest thing Half-Life 2 ever had to developer commentary was Rising The Bar.
Has anyone ever tried to re-make that Jalopy model?
One guy was close to finish a remake, but then he got banned from FP and dropped the model.
We should all march towards valve at once and demand to be their new playtesters.

We then take a wrong turn at the intersection and get lost.
You could make it work, it'd just require a bit of effort. Have Rebels to counter-act the Soldiers, have the Gunship do passes over the map shooting at off-screen npc_bullseye's, maybe have Helicopters do the same, have Gordon's priority in general be much lower than normal which would make NPC's focus more on each other, and when you want him to engage Soldiers have them escorting a Strider instead of the usual Hunters (maybe make them Elites so they stand out, while normal Soldiers just focus on Rebels). You could also slow down the pace at which Striders spawn slightly to give more breathing room.
But in the end, Valve took the easy way out, which is really unfortunate. The climactic final battle of EP2 was even less exciting than the battle at the Citadel wall in HL2. I don't really blame them, they have a schedule to keep, and the testers couldn't focus on the one task they were given long enough to complete it, so the easiest answer is to remove everything but the given task.
The problem with editing NPC priority things in Hammer, or at least from my understanding, is that if an NPC has a higher priority, the enemy targeting that NPC will only attack that NPC and ignore any others with less priority. So you'd have Combine Soldiers letting Gordon crowbar them to death one-by-one as they try to take down the one rebel medic hiding in a building.
Was just playing Half-Life 2: Update and this happened.
I was looking for Kelly Baileys music on the Google Play Music app, he's listed on there as an artist but sadly none of his work is there. What is interesting though is that reading his about page taken from Wikipedia it states that he left Valve in 2011 to pursue a personal project but had retuned to work for them in February 2014.
I wonderrrr
When the Jira leaks happened in 2013 he was already listed in multiple groups, including HL3 Core. Lots of people were happy.
When the Jira leaks happened in 2013 he was already listed in multiple groups, including HL3 Core. Lots of people were happy.
he's pretty hard to replace considering his music is pretty damn fitting in the series
if hl3's music wasn't done by him, it would be a little off-putting to me in my opinion
Yep.
That's not what John Walker thinks btw lol
I’d forgotten how incredibly terrible the music can be.
Bombastic, cheap dance music is really not what suits Half-Life. Its deeply peculiar intermittent appearances only make it more incongruous to the experience, as for some reason this particular section of a level requires the soundtrack to a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie to play in for a minute or two.

I think it was on garrysmod.org at one point.
I made a model hack long ago that was on garrysmod.org and now is on the workshop. That might be what your thinking of.
Its not a replica but more of a hack that was inspired by it, here is a picture and the download for those that are interested:

Clearly needs less Jean-Claude and more Inception.
I just played the teleport messup sequence in the HL2 intro again, and I'm amused by how the Black Mesa East NPCs (Alyx, Eli, Mossman) are fully animated, while Barney's routine consists of moving around staring up at Gordon and Kleiner's involves rotating back and forth in 45 degree angles in front of screens.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/04/02/everything-id-forgotten-about-half-life-2/
some of the music was actually pretty calming, along with some being totally cheesy and upbeat -- a stark contrast. in my opinion i think it was going for an experimental feel
this is probably still one of my favorites

"Cheap dance music."
[editline]11th April 2015[/editline]
I don't know what this guy has against the soundtrack. There's only three tracks that even come close to "dance music". One of them isn't even part of the game itself, it's the credit music. Apprehension and Evasion and the one that plays at the generator are the other two, but they don't really stick out like a sore thumb.
The other tracks are just very good industrial rock. Some of the more obscure tracks are just downright haunting, too.
pre-release EP2 gameplay trailer
This video reminded me how much I love Hunters. The best enemy in HL2 and it's episodes.
They're pretty smart, fights with them are dynamic and fast (never before in HL2 I had to frantically pick up objects with the gravity gun to throw them at the enemy), they look pretty badass, they sound cool [sp]and they're also pretty cute; I love that little "stun" animation they do when they're hit with an object[/sp]

Well John Walker's a fucking idiot, so who cares what he thinks about Half-Life.
lol what a scrub HL1 and 2 ost are hella more memorable than the droves of generic "EPIC ORCHESTRA" osts you hear
He does have a point though. In some cases atleast. Although the low-brow nature of his article makes is seam like he was grappling around the bottom of the bin for something to shove onto the site.
Half Life 2 is always interesting because even though it's my favorite game of all time ever, I always think about it negativity; The niggles always stand out if you look at each individual component of Half Life 2. But when it's all brought together it's a wild adventure across a distopian landscape with it's peaks and troughs and small environmental details and rockin' fight sequences and characters that feel real even if they shuffle around like puppets.
Analyzing any single element of Half Life 2, like listening to a single instrument in a classical music concert, makes it look terrible... But when all the elements are together you create an amazing symphony of gameplay that has yet to be truly matched. You need to breath in the whole exepriance to truly appreciate how good it is and how pretentious I sound high off of espresso getting ready for a night of thermodynamics homework

I wouldn't exactly blame you for that; most Xen wildlife already seems to cross straight through ugly cute territory for a variety of reasons as well.
Also: Hunters are pretty expressive for a Combine Synth. They also originally had an "anger" mode that was used for a rendering regression test.

what? have you listened to classical music? this isn't a good analogy
For the record, only the first chapter in Half-Life 2: Update, Point Insertion, has commentary nodes written by a large community involvement. The rest of the game's commentary nodes were written by one guy.
Was that one guy you? :v:
No, the rest of the game's commentary nodes were written by Zach Howlett, the one credited in the project as the lead writer. I and the other community members who helped write the first chapter's commentary nodes did not receive credit.

The original model files are on a old harddrive I can't access at the moment but this download should work fine:

nice.
i think it's pretty fitting, looks more scrappy and hastily put together than the retail scout car
The beta jalopy was actually being remade by someone after I made a thread a while ago about it. Unfortunately though he got banned and then I presume he just lost interest. You can read through it here if you'd like:
