I want a new Day of Defeat or Left4Dead I would say DoD: Vietnam, but Rising Storm 2: Vietnam just got announced so that'll satisfy my Vietnam itch for now.
Day of Defeat: Western Front I'd be ok with a DoD remake. Frankly I'd be ok with anything that meant an FPS on Source 2 just to see how far we can push it. I doubt they're going to use Dota to benchmark the limits of the new engine.
If it was set during Vietnam they could go crazy with helmet customisation items, that's the kind of thing Valve likes to capitalise on.
I don't think it would catch on since it's really small detail in the player's eye.
I want a new Day of Defeat or Left4Dead
I almost feel ashamed to admit that I'm aching for L4D3 just as much as I'm aching for HL3.
Gabe called HL3/EP3 "a super classic kind of product" that would only be made "if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why". We are at a point where Valve considers a SP game a super classic kind of product. I'm hope I'm not alone here but I want just that.
Sounds like Valve need a bunch of people who are immune to mobas.
Day of Defeat with British vs Germans. Would be easier to balance since they had similar philosohpies regarding infantry combat. Bolt action rifles supported by Machine Guns, with occasional SMG soldiers for close range.

We are at a point where Valve considers a SP game a super classic kind of product. I'm hope I'm not alone here but I want just that.
He did not call Half life a "super classic product", he didn't say any of their games were. Half life was not mentioned until after he said that and he says "super classic kind of product". That whole part of the interview is about how they make and release their games now and their way of thinking about games as tools. In this case "Super classic kind of product" would likely mean something that doesn't factor in all the things they've learned over the years from TF2, Portal 2, DoTA 2 etc and would be handled like their games were before all that. That's why he says this:
But we're also going to build on what we've learned ... and we've learned a lot. We're not going to go all retro because there are too many interesting things that have been learned.
And then shortly after that he says this:
But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we've learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice.
At no point did he say any of their games were a "super classic product" that they probably won't return to, he says that about the way they approach their games and what they do with them. That part of the interview is about how they treat games as things to overcome challenges and test things with, which is what they tend to do now. He even says people shouldn't really be so concerned about that approach:
But that doesn't necessarily always mean what people are worried that it might mean.
If you take it out of context and ignore the rest of what he's saying, it looks like he's calling some of their games a classic product they won't go back to, but he's not saying that at all.
Not a long time ago somebody posted the original stock sounds used in the HL2 Radio, Postal ending, Silent Hill Shattered Memories and the Max Payne nightmare level. Can't find that post now, can somebody help? EDIT: found the links, but not the post itself (is it okay to post the links here? You could call that warez)

I've been looking at the old opposing forces 2 moddb page, and man that shit is depressing even accounting for the fact that I've never really been very hyped for it had they ever released their wip content like they promised?
had they ever released their wip content like they promised?
Ugh, don't remind me, it just makes it worse.
I thought they did.
Ugh, don't remind me, it just makes it worse.
was the content shitty?
was the content shitty?
No, they never released it.
No, they never released it.
Maestro Fenix thought they did
Personally I don't hype mods until they're close to release, at a point where they won't get canned. Way too many mods just die before they get anywhere, they aren't worth hyping.
Maestro Fenix thought they did
you can find what was released here https://github.com/of2team/Opposing-Force-2/releases
you can find what was released here https://github.com/of2team/Opposing-Force-2/releases
really nice! thanks
you can find what was released here https://github.com/of2team/Opposing-Force-2/releases
I knew they released something, but not where. Thank you.
What licence is it released under? Is it just for people who want to help, or can we use some of those assets in our maps/mods as well?
tbqh all the maps are done. the only thing that hasn't been fully ported yet is the code (mostly npcs). we'd rather not post that in the moddb page because it really builds hype and we haven't kept up with our promises in the last year (we truly apologize). at this point we just want to come out with a sudden release of of2 (or what we still have of it). i'd start packing our content right now (maps, materials, models, sounds, etc), but it's literally no use since most entities won't be there. [editline]19th June 2015[/editline]
Is it just for people who want to help, or can we use some of those assets in our maps/mods as well?
we feel like fans should be able to use our assets for whatever they want as long as we're credited. chris plans on making his code open source once he's done with that too.
God is real
we feel like fans should be able to use our assets for whatever they want as long as we're credited. chris plans on making his code open source once he's done with that too.
'CC BY 4.0' sounds down your alley, of course if you're super awesome you'll go 'CC0 1.0'.
What mods are recommended for sprucing up the original Half Life deathmatch? Like I love playing it vanilla at lan parties and such but the formula is a bit rustic now. like whoever gets the sniper rifle first wins the game lol
my half-life can't even connect to servers anymore for some reason, even though i know there are atleast a few with players up. [t]http://i.imgur.com/AB3qqlV.png[/t] reinstalling didnt fix anything
Apparently Valve left some references to the gravity gun/physgun (possibly from HL3?) in Dota 2 Reborn. are you sure those aren't just old functions from hl2/ep1/ep2?
are you sure those aren't just old functions from hl2/ep1/ep2?
Fairly sure. There are other references to HL3 in Source 2 which require some deeper mining, so it can't be a coincidence. Here's a list of references taken from Reddit
i'm pretty sure this one:
output OnPhysGunOnlyPickup(void) : "Fired when a player picks this object up WITH THE PHYSGUN. +USE pickups do not fire this output."
wasn't in hl2/ep1/ep2 but granted, hl2 originally had physgun
