That map design is awful.
What is it about that mod that's supposed to make people want to play it, anyway? Looks boring.
Remember that HL2 mod called ICE that someone posted about a year ago? Well it got updated recently.
Somehow the creator made it looks worse.

Those horribly designed ice monsters look like this guy to me.

I'd say around the time HL2 takes place, 202x
It's not happening, I'm almost sure of it at this point.

Holy shit I thought this was HL1 at first
Well, at least he tried to do something different by not taking stuff from FPSBanana, unlike other mods.
I'm reading through the comments on the mod. You could post a picture of shit on moddb and say its your new mod, and they'll still reply with positive comments.

I don't think this person discovered the ambient_generic entity yet, judging from the dead silence in all of those maps.

You mean, it's not?
[editline]21st July 2015[/editline]
Oh, no, it isn't.
Ohhhhhh, nooooooo
theres a reason serious devs dont post on moddb anymore
I dunno, I still see some good stuff from time to time.
Like that Transmissions mod, I mean the guy got hired onto a dev company because of his efforts, so I'm not sure I understand your definition of "serious."
It's also still one of the better ways to get your mod out there and seen.
That said though I kinda see Moddb as the Nexus for TES/Fallout. You gotta dig through a lot of shit but every now and then you see something promising.
I love how it says in big letters "PRE-ALPHA FOOTAGE" in the top of the screen, almost feels like a Ubisoft marketing tactic...
even if it was actually pre-alpha the dev will probably retire the project in like 1 week

The overall lack of polish and clunkiness really brings me back to 2005.
I can't wait to play it with Fatboy Slim in the background.
(To be honest I really like the music in the footage)
Recently I started to do a bit of research on how some of the Portal 2 sounds from the soundtrack were made. I know that quite a few people have already discovered that Mike Morasky used some Massive presets as well as Chipsounds synth and even the discontinued NI Pro-53, but I was wondering if I can get the same sound out of Reason 7, which doesn't support VST instruments. This research has later become my first proper Portal 2 styled track (I've made a couple of them before, but the synth sounds weren't as close - they sounded much more like Harry101UK's take on Portal 2 style).

What I wanted to achieve is a track that starts off with sample-and-hold modulated beep synth from Portal 2's theme song (Reconstructing More Science). Then it evolves into much more epic part (I guess that would go well with an escape run sequence). The artwork was done by _demolisher_.
You, sir, made one of the best first posts I've seen to this day.
In case someone liked that art:

Wow, I much prefer your style to Harry's

If someone showed this to me without telling me it was fan made, I'd honestly think it was from the Portal 2 Soundtrack. Holy crap, you nailed it perfectly.
On the topic of "Music like Portal 2," this song always reminded me of Portal 2 for some reason when it came on, especially old aperture

That song really reaches Morasky's style and sound. Holy shit this song is good! Love how it gets more intense to the end.
So I have been looking through Portal source code from 2012 leak and, to my surprise, it appears that Portal code is not based on HL2 but rather on HL2: Deathmatch. There're also traces of some kind of deathmatch mode made specifically for Portal and it does not seem to be that soccer mode that Valve was developing for Portal 2.
I think I remember mentions of Portal Deathmatch where players would use portals to kill the other players, like creating one under him and the other above pit with toxic waste.
I think I remember reading about that a while ago, afaik valve couldn't find a way to actually make it good to play so they scrapped it.

Sounds straight out of Portal Stories: Mel, to me.

It sounds fun. Would be fun to play with friends. Is there a mod like that?

Valve said that "it's not as much fun as you would think". They also mentioned that it's too easy to open a portal right under a player and send him to his doom. The main reason it was scrapped is because it was way too chaotic with portals constantly flying and opening everywhere and stuff.
A friend of mine managed not only to make the retail Portal work on a dedicated server, but also to make join another player. Sadly as soon as someone opens a portal, it crashes.
