The Portal Vive demo is just a custom Portal 2 map running on Source 2. You actually have to download all of Portal 2, hence the 16GB depot.
isnt the rule of portal 1 mp that you shouldnt put a portal anywhere near a player and youll be fine? [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0dqZWllPRw[/hd]
You can just change one line in source code and it will stop crashing. But in that video they are using retail version (it will crash if they are too close to portals).
I remember reading someone thought that demo was running on Unity. Guess he was wrong.
Wow, no shit? People thought valve would demo new tech and graphics on anything except their new cutting edge engine?
I remember reading someone thought that demo was running on Unity. Guess he was wrong.
There was a Unity logo in Valve Time's vid, so someone asked about that. But it was explained that was there since the config tool and other demos are on Unity. This running on Source 2 was confirmed by Joe Ludwig during GDC.
Remember that HL2 mod called ICE that someone posted about a year ago? Well it got updated recently. Somehow the creator made it looks worse. :suicide:
Looks pretty cool to me to be honest. Sure, there's a lot of shitty stuff going on, but there's also some pretty cool things like the wall panel destruction and the snowmobile APC's. This shows he's actually trying to make something, but is marred by some pretty poor decisions/amateurish skills. Nonetheless I look forward to seeing more.
I wouldn't mind giving to him some tips about mapping. The guy seems he has enthusiasm, something that is rare to find nowdays within this engine.

Thoughts?
Thoughts?
Aint got time for click-baity videos with no real info.
Aint got time for click-baity videos with no real info.
Well its all info that makes perfect sense.
Well its all info that makes perfect sense.
Info that's probably widely available and the video provides nothing new aside from bullshit with zero substance.
Thoughts?
rooster teeth couldn't make enough money on halo, they decided to make money on HL
rooster teeth couldn't make enough money on halo, they decided to make money on HL
I don't even think the RT fans like The Know.

The wall destruction is nice, but some of the wall textures look like bumpmaps, making it look really bad. The ice zombies just feel out of place, and don't really have unique sounds. Some of the weapons look to over powered, and others just look, out of place and not something I would expect Combine soldiers to use(Except the little shooting robot thing, that feels like something the combine may use). And personally, the APC could have been done better, much more like a tank and having 2 treads instead of 4.
So, one guy on reddit emailed Marc Laidlaw about that new rumor video
Well its all info that makes perfect sense.
No, it definitely does not. It's all vague information that anyone could make up. Back in 2012, Gabe referred to the next Half life game as Ricochet 2 and said that "everybody who has worked on Ricochet 2 continues to work on Ricochet 2". That video saying the team was downsized after 2009 does not fit in with Gabe saying that. It does not make sense to say the team is the same when that's not the case. It also says it's partly because things have changed since 2004 - the last Half life game released in 2007, not 2004, and we know for sure that another game was in development after that, so that part doesn't make sense either. There's also that over the past few years, Valve has said several times why the next game is taking so long. At no point has anything suggested that it's because they've lost interest, it actually seems to be the opposite. Their reason was that they don't want to show it and then decide they can do it all better and end up disappointing people with delays and changes, so they're waiting until they're happy with it.
But at this rate will they ever live up to the hype? It's next to impossible considering the wait, but then again TF2 kinda succeeded.

I believe they're waiting to figure out something innovative, because that's been lacking in games these past years
Something that bothered me about the video is if HL3 isn't worth the financial risk, why develop Steam Machines and SteamOS?
So from the June 2013 Jira leak we have these numbers: Half-Life 3 Mailing List: 48 People Left 4 Dead 3 Mailing List: 74 People Now 36 of the HL3 people are also on the L4D3 mailing list, which leaves us with only 11 people exclusively on the HL3 list. So there's that...
The JIRA leak also had a Half-Life 3 Core group which had 10 people and included the likes of Bailey and Foster, but not Laidlaw http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=689145

Massive amounts of body physics, level detail, NPC interactions etc make it just perfect. Wouldn't be surprised if L4D3 was announced by the end of the year.

Marc is very correct about how Half Life's story has to be told as a game, it just wouldn't be the same if they threw out a comic to fill in the gaps. (Plus I'm sure a lot of people would get very angry at Valve waiting 10 years to release anything Half Life related for it to only be a comic)
thank goodness Marc laid down the law
