Those attending on Thursday 24th September will be able to see Valve Developer Chet Faliszek in person as he takes to the stage to present a developer session titled The Year Ahead in VR. The session is scheduled to take place at 3pm and those unable to attend will be able watch live via the EGX YouTube channel. Do you guys remember when you played Half-Life 2 for the first time and right in the beginning of the game when you exit the train, you turned around and noticed that the train-car couplings weren't lined up properly and how it immediately ruined your immersion? This guy does too. http://trainsingames.com/articles/commonsins
Sometimes, it’s really difficult to retain a positive attitude towards a game. There are mistakes that are so basic and so useless that they really cannot be explained. One of them is when couplings are arranged in a way that just won’t work. So let me phrase it very clearly here: Couplings are supposed to intersect in a way that they can actually pull each other. If there are buffers, they should normally touch. Is that really so hard?
Considering his high standards and rigorous examinations, I was disappointed to find out that he doesn't have anything to say about the infamous brush minecart.
imagine complaining about trains in a game about shooting aliens and driving a buggy.
Are we seriously comparing games from 2012 (far cry 3) to games from 2004 (hl2)? Might as well compare Skyrim with Doom 1 then
You can't have Half-Life without trains.
Trains, headcrabs and seesaw puzzles. The key ingredients to any good half life.
Trains, headcrabs and seesaw puzzles. The key ingredients to any good half life.
I imagine the next game starting with Gordon inside a train wagon balancing on a cliff, one side featuring Headcrabs hiding behind wooden crates, the other a NPC spouting one liners.
Let's be frank though, the brush minecart is nigh inexcusable.
Let's be frank though, the brush minecart is nigh inexcusable.
In this day and age, yeah. 2004, back when Hammer was still in it's youth and Valve only had a few months to fix the game after the leak debacle? Pretty excusable. [editline]August 20, 2015[/editline] Not saying that HL2 was a rushed job, just that they were putting more focus on making the gameplay feel more polished than nitpicks such as that what with the timelimit they had.
It's also travelling at alarming speed with a SPINNING BLADE OF DEATH ON IT. It's not made to be stared at directly and up close.

They Hunger looks like absolute shit but in an endearing way. It makes me want to play it so bad.
They Hunger looks like absolute shit but in an endearing way. It makes me want to play it so bad.
I'm pretty sure They Hunger is among the most acclaimed HL1 mods, actually...
They Hunger looks like absolute shit but in an endearing way. It makes me want to play it so bad.
They Hunger is great (minus Ep.3) If has some great level design (minus Ep.3) and its very atmospheric for what it is. Although its Corny as all hell, but that's part of the charm. If you haven't already you should give them a try.
They Hunger looks like absolute shit but in an endearing way. It makes me want to play it so bad.
They Hunger even has a train! Here's a screenshot of many players enjoying They Hunger's train: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/594706251474161975/BCEFC37AA8BC7811886FA3D130A0B0947F0BB34B/[/t] I think you'd be interested in this train, Mr. TheTrainRider, aka Rob "The Train" Lane, contributing writer to the famed Trains In Games website. Perhaps you should train your sight on this game next to admire its couplings!
Speaking of They Hunger, is it safe to say Lost Souls is dead?
Well, what I intended to say was that it looks visually appalling because its old and has some really ugly textures and models, but has that retro feel that can't be replicated with modern programming which makes me want to download and play through it (such I have never done outside of one night on SVEN Coop but that doesn't count). I guess it doesn't matter what I indented and how the post was perceived, since I've already destroyed any cool boy points I got for posting in this thread in the first place, and now must abandon it like an elevator I just farted in.
and now must abandon it like an elevator I just farted in.
You might say you're pulling out of the station after tooting your horn!
Come to think of it, weren't those white-suited Overwatch Elite guys alleged to be created from fusions of human and Vort DNA?
Where did you get that crazy idea? Vorts have 4 eyes (6 in HL1) so how would a human-vort hybrid end up with 1 eye?
Where did you get that crazy idea? Vorts have 4 eyes (6 in HL1) so how would a human-vort hybrid end up with 1 eye?
Considering it'd be a critical downgrade in perception to just one ocular orifice from two, six, or a million, one must logically assume it's a highly advanced array of sensors, likely with integrated night/thermal and rangefinding, etc etc

Also: never heard of the Elites or any human Combine unit ever for that manner having Vortigaunt DNA mixed in them, whether from magazines or official material. Sounds like some bad dA fanfiction to be quite honest.

so this came out http://stabberthomas.itch.io/hlm
Seeing the blue truck in that video is surpizingly comforting, like seeing an old friend in a new location.
