it's gone through many many designs and variations til i finally landed on that one.
i figured it's made of some really bizarre xenian metal so i tried to make that evident in the design by giving it weird reflective properties.
i was mainly inspired by unusual minerals that give off similar properties.

it's replicable with shaders and should look really cool once it's in action.
The armor texture reminds me a bit like the oil slicks you see when it rains. I think it looks neat.
Edit:
Also you folks keep talking about Half Life 2, when the real enemy is in most of Episode 2
Fucking yellow signs man.
I've been thinking about Half Life 1 a lot, I really want to replay it
Vague Voices is like the best shit

I haven't had my PC since June 24th
Considering it'd be a critical downgrade in perception to just one ocular orifice from two, six, or a million, one must logically assume it's a highly advanced array of sensors, likely with integrated night/thermal and rangefinding, etc etc
It'd have to be some fancy super-eye for it to make any practical sense, but one large, red, centered eye is the only thing I could think of that might have given ironman17 the idea that Elites were "created from fusions of human and Vort DNA".

Alien metals, they should look weird and unnatural.
half-life 2 update fixes this train coupling issue
This video made me realize that the HL1 underwater sounds are probably just audio recordings of a watercooler.
Also, that bit with the Snark at the dam. Holy shit. That was the most intense thing I've seen all day.

"Xen is currently under progress. The full version will later be purchasable through Steam."

I knew quadrazid was an amazing speedrunner, but this... wow.
What do you think will become the basic trunk of Source 2?
For those confused, if the engine is a tree, games are branches of the trunk obviously. An example would be Half-Life 1 being the trunk for the GoldSrc engine, Half-Life 2 being the trunk for the Source engine.
I think Valve may just bring out a flagship title to launch Source 2 with, however give out the engine with a purchase of the game, rather than having to use the game as a means to work on.
For example, GMod can't work on the other branches because its based on the Half-Life branch of Source. As much as I would love to have zombie mechanics from L4D2 in Gmod, it wouldn't work. I would love to combine TF2 and L4D2.

it's Dota 2 so far.

If Valve intends to have Source 2 compete with other engines, they literally can not and should not do this. The engine should be on its own.

This is where things like Source SDK come in.
ha ha ha oh wait they deprecated that didn't they oops

Yeah, and that's why I said that they may release the engine separately, maybe if you purchase one of the games that run on Source 2. Like Dota 2 at the moment, you now have access to Dota 2's version of Src2, but I reckon they should also release a "standard" version as a basis to use. Otherwise, as you say, they cannot compete
Well, this isn't the Valve thread, but I think they're going to pop off L4D3 or 'CSGO: Reborn' and use that to produce the "free sample" content in the SDK. Like the kind of assets they throw in so you can get to grips with the engine in between busking in the street to fund your indie-dev dreams.
So I played Half Life: Source with timescale 0.1
Holy shit it's surprisingly fun
Just thinking out loud, but imagine if there was a surprise trailer for Half Life 3 attached with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I think I'd purchase a ticket just to see that, and stick around for the movie.
Makes me want to dig up a post I made comparing Half Life 2 and its episodes to the original trilogy.
I really don't think Valve would do something like that, they would probably be a segment at the Microsoft press conference (since PC gaming), Gabe talks about Steam, sales figures, new features, then cut the lights, screen cuts to black, Gman fades in
More likely than not they'd just upload a trailer to youtube. That's really all they need to do.
I think the only worthwhile thing to talk about regarding Half-Life 3 anymore is how they'd announce it. I doubt it would just be an announcement at a conference, and if it is it'd have to be some spectacle like Sand Castle said, with the lights cutting out and a huge deal being made over it. On the other hand, maybe they'll do an ARG like with Portal 2, though at this point I think any mysterious ARG that Valve tries to do will be immediately identified as Half-Life 3.
Any two people could be dancing the Lambada anywhere near Bellview and some fucker would talk about how it's HL3
or maybe they could contact google and change the google doodle to a half life 3 logo or something
and it will be that way for 3 days
on march third
