Unreal is probably one of my favorite late 90s FPSes. It's atmosphere is just so amazing.
So, importing textures from Half Life to Doom? Any perils or pitfalls to be mindful of?
Unreal suffered from having buttons that don't tell you what they do, as well as from different variations of same enemies looking too similar, so I thought you were fighting same Skaarj warriors the whole game until the mothership blackout. It was also ridiculously long for an fps. [editline]24th August 2016[/editline]
So, importing textures from Half Life to Doom?
So, importing textures from Half Life to Doom? Any perils or pitfalls to be mindful of?
Unless you're aiming for a source port that supports true color, Doom's 256 color palette does not greatly accommodate Half-Life's textures. Also, again unless you're using a source port, Doom's textures must be in particular power-of-two resolutions, and not all Half-Life textures follow this rule, so you may have to cut up or resize some.
I got to play the demo Sadly even with Vulkan, my 940M was unable to keep 60FPS at low settings, 576p [sp]you could say chances of running a solid 60fps are DOOOMED[/sp] :v: Even if I played it with a 30FPS lock, it's still a very good game :ok:
I tried the demo out with a 660m at 360p to get playable framerates. I can't wait to build something that will play it.
[sp]you didn't try just running it at 30fsps? or you'd rather go big and go full 60[/sp]
A lot of PC gamers think 30fps is absolutely unacceptable. I personally have no problem with it, but some people strive for speed and smoothness above all else. I don't blame them. I'm just used to having a shitty PC, I guess.
once you get used to playing games at 60fps, you don't want to go back
while I dont mind playing at 60fps, Im just so used to having shit framerates from having a shitty computer growing up that playing at 20-40 fps doesnt bother me that much. I played WoW and LotRO for years with those kinds of framerates to the point where seeing clips of games in at 60+ fps can look unnatural at times. Its the same feeling people got when they saw The Hobbit at 48fps. for me, as long as its stable and at least above like 20 fps then its perfectly playable I realize im in a huge minority here though
I prefer 60 FPS myself but I can deal with 30. Anything below 24 is unbearable to me, though.
I realize im in a huge minority here though
Oi m8, I played through various games at like 15FPS, some shooters included. Fight the power of people having rigs powerful enough to enjoy things at proper FPS!

Personally my limit is around 40-45fps in general. Rarely a game feels playable to me as low as the upper 20s.
I prefer 60 FPS myself but I can deal with 30. Anything below 24 is unbearable to me, though.
I just finished playing Crysis 3 at 30 FPS. Every game should support locking the framerate at 30 like C3 does. I could lower the settings, but then the framerate would go up and down, from 45 to 75, and it felt like the game would slow down and then speed up. Constant 30 is better than unstable higher framerate, plus I could set everything on ultra and even turn on vsync. The game itself was a disappointment though, amazing graphics, but the campaign was boring :(

[vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/odieyi.webm[/vid] Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Going Medieval On Their Asses I got the subweapon ammo restock mechanic in thanks to help from Term, and now I added a nice little graphic to show you.
I've been used to playing at framerates under 30, so when I'm using my actual new computer and a game drops below it, I don't really get bothered.

give that fire additive renderstyle also, will they die if they charge into water?

It would be cool if it was a throwback at the first 2 Duke Nukems But then again, if Gearbox has anything to do with it, I'm not sure I will want to touch it.
Duke Nukem 5ever? Or since this are modern times the actual title will be DUKE NUKEM™
once you get used to playing games at 60fps, you don't want to go back
I dunno, I'm fairly adaptable 30FPS is acceptable with a controller, with m+kb it is total hell (heh)
Duke Nukem 5ever? Or since this are modern times the actual title will be DUKE NUKEM™
To be honest considering the franchise's track record I'd be okay with them going for just DUKE NUKEM and try putting things back on track a little.
The Gearbox Duke thing is probably that re-release with the new episode that TerminX alluded to during his scuffles. Apparently Gearbox's custom source port was pretty rough at that time, hopefully things have improved in that regard now that cooler heads have prevailed. Between this effort, Romero's Blackroom, and probably a few indie devs we don't know about yet, I think a good few game developers were planning on Doom 4 being a lot worse than it turned out to be, so that they could swoop in and "fill the gap". Funny how things turn out, eh? Go figure that a Duke Nukem game would be six months late to its own birthday.

Andrew Hulshult still has Duke Nukem Reloaded on his Twitter banner as one of his current works, so I still have hopes that it may be getting a revival. [editline]25th August 2016[/editline] Oh fuck, or it could just be Bazinga Nukem: Duke Nukem 3D Never Happened Edition

Also, things have changed a little between Gearbox and TerminX: [T]http://orig02.deviantart.net/d00d/f/2016/139/8/6/segwad_by_wesker500-da340i2.png[/T]
I didn't get any pressure from Gearbox, I just decided I would make another attempt at working things out rather than continue with the way that thread was going. The whole situation is distressing and a little heartbreaking. The Duke3D community is very dear to me and I don't want to do anything that will fuck it up forever. The situation is what it is and I don't want to go to war with anyone if I don't absolutely have to.

OK, here's the deal. Our license to Duke Nukem 3D is invalid. It's not the fault of the current owners of 3D Realms, and, as it turns out, certainly not the fault of Gearbox. This leaves me completely up shit creek. BUT, even after the public feuding, Gearbox has found something for me to do and they are going to be helping me out, as is 3DR. As far as Hail to the King Collection goes, there's not much more I can say other than that it's on hold at 90-something% completion. Gearbox isn't currently interested in the product and they aren't obligated to be. At this point, I'm just glad they're willing to work with me again. I'm going to do my best to change their minds on it as I believe the market for such a product is much larger than they think it is, but for now it is what it is. I may just do a "soft" launch of the base port itself for a $1.99 price tag where you provide your own GRP. So, to summarize: Gearbox isn't evil and Randy isn't a huge asshole. The current owner of 3DR is a great guy. I got completely shanghaied, but things will be alright.
Contrary to what everyone believed, Gearbox was in the right after all, and the person to blame seems to be none other than [sp]Scott Miller, founder of Apogee and previous owner of 3DRealms[/sp]. Hopefully though TerminX has been able to push the Duke re-release in the right direction and influence it so that we're getting something enjoyable. He previously said the mappers for the new episode were quite talented, so at least from that standpoint it should probably not be a problem.
Meanwhile that BUILD Engine Bombshell tie-in faded into obscurity after Bombshell bombed.
