It's 99% stolen material. Even the maps aren't original.
Using my GTX 980 to play Doom is fucking filthy, I'm running it maxed out and I'm getting like 90+ the majority of time.
Has anyone else just been totally been driven away from SnapMap? I've had tons of ideas, only to find out after about an hour of tinkering that it's either so hard to set up that it won't be worth it, or that it'll be such a watered down version of what I imagined that it won't even be fun. From weapon limits, to player limits, to of all things a 12 monster limit, it just makes it pointless. SnapMap just feels like an endless series of mistakes and it's so far gone, that I don't see anything in the future, whether it be updates or DLC, saving it or redeeming it. I mean, when you have to make a fucking conspiracy theorist spaghetti plot just to have a light flicker, you fucked up big time.
can anyone recommend some good DOOM (ultimate or doom 2, whichever) map packs that function well with vanilla/brutal gameplay? preferably ones that don't add stuff like custom weapons or monsters so they function with every mod

Check out Doomworld's past Cacoawards for vanilla maps and megawads. Have you played through Plutonia and TNT? I feel like everyone plays the first three or so maps of both but never finishes them. Maybe that's just me.
I wish people would stop giving attention to this. It's 99% stolen material. Even the maps aren't original.
In Italy it's even worse, it's like our personal Brutal Doom except that BD isn't so half assed
I grew up on other games and never actually played through Doom/Wolfenstein until a few days ago. Never realised it was hard coded to 35fps, but doesnt actually feel too bad in all honesty.
After playing it for a little bit more, the multiplayer portion is pretty meh, but I fucking love Soul Harvest. The fact that there's almost always a demon on the field makes it feel more dynamic and unique compared to the other modes (though I have yet to play Clan Arena or Freeze Tag, so I can't jump to conclusions on those yet).
People talk shit on Brutal Doom but the Hell on Earth Starter Pack is a very well made megawad.
Sunlust, Back to Saturn X 1 & 2, Going Down
Sunlust comes with big asterisk though, since the latter half depends on tastes of the player. I like it, but if you are not in for slaughterfests, it probably won't be as enjoyable. Wholly worth it for the first half, though. In same vein I'd recommend Deus Vult 2, but Deus Vult 2 uses Dehacked... Other things I'd add would be - Valiant ( clean version is available ) - Freudian Slipgate - Community Chest 4 If you can stomach Dehacked, I would recommend aforementioned Deus Vult 2, and with big, glowing golden letters: Scythe 2.
just wanted to report in to say 1. doom 2016 campaign is a lot of fun so far. and 2. im having intense keyboard input lag with this game. it's as if im always moving in one direction sometimes. id love to know a fix for this, sometimes making precise jumps can be a huge pain in the ass.

Wait, can you submit multiple entries into contest?
Is V-sync enabled?
it was happening while vsync was enabled and disabled while testing. uhhh but the game DOES have a tendency to change my settings to things i didn't set them to, so maybe i should test that again. which reminds me, game doesn't let me get out of fullscreen. it actually does this sleight of hand trick on me where once it asks if i want to save my settings, it switches from windowed or borderless to full screen. i'm 100% sure it's doing this with some of my graphical settings as well. on "medium" it's setting it back to "custom" and changing a few things back to "ultra" where i don't want them to.
So are there any good cooperative survival snapmaps? Wondering if it might be fun to play, also is it possible to play with strangers via matchmaking?

There goes the main reason I was going to get Doom 4.
Does this work?

Really solid one. Playing it with Trailblazer atm. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/447358114684063493/741C6138939550F590056645FD47CBF116BA9BB3/[/t]
It's that bad? There goes the main reason I was going to get Doom 4.
Really? You should still get it. The SP is fucking incredible, and the MP is actually quite fun, even if it's not exactly Quake 3 arena, and the Chaingun is OP, but that will probably get nerfed in time.
Sunlust comes with big asterisk though, since the latter half depends on tastes of the player.
Yeah, that's how I felt. First half was really good, but then it was just revenants as far as the eye can see.
The issue I have is - there's a difference between interesting slaughtermap design and "oops here's a closet with 50 angry bonejangles in a small room." Sunlust was tough as nails, even in cheap ways at times, for the first solid 10-15 levels or so, iirc. But beyond that it just gets far too spammy and the feeling is miserable if you're on a vanilla or vanilla-esq mod. Slaughtermap megawads are already as exhausting and you have to be in a special kinda mood to play them. Also, special fuck-you to megawads that do that trick of killing you in a crusher at the same time as a Romero head just to steal all your equipment. If you're going to do that more than once, just split the damn thing up into episodes. :v:
If you want small levels but filled with enemies to slaughter try Going Down. I found it pretty fun and hard to get bored, most of levels have a twist to keep things fresh. I did an entire run with Trailblazer and it was fun from start to finish.
How come the game is still locked to 60fps even though I have VSync off in-game, and on Adaptive in my NVidia settings? [sp]I don't have a G-Sync monitor. ;_;[/sp]
Snapmap is incredibly restrictive for just straight up regular maps. It's great for making stupid gimmicks like farming games and music boxes or whatever else, but if you want to make proper maps with tons of monsters you're stuck with very limited options, and you constantly have to work around the monster limit.
It's that bad? There goes the main reason I was going to get Doom 4.
It's quite cool for what it is, but it's not as powerful as most people would enjoy. It's terribly convenient if you want to make a quick map with romps and logic to it, but the problem with Snapmap is that it's in a weird mix between SP and MP. It has enough content to make SP (And 2 player COOP) maps, but the weapon and demon limit fucks that up big time. The level design in the SP is so great that it overshadows the modules you have in snapmap too, so that's frustrating. For Snapmap to work in a SP sense, it needs AT least full weapon wheel and unlocked demon limit, and add to that a way to create your own assets for it. The number of module sure is large, but people are going to use mostly the same ones that makes for fun maps - like the large one, or the one with interesting set pieces. This means you'll often see the same thing over and over again. In a way, most demons spawn during fights in the SP campaign (You don't have a lot of large room full of monsters waiting for you all that often), but I'm pretty sure i've seen at least 15-25 demons at the same time during one of the SP fights at least more than once. The closest you could get from the campaign is making a few wave events in a few key rooms, putting hidden monsters in connectors that you spawn when the player first enters that module (or enters the previous modules, or walk through a trigger so that the room is already full when they come in, etc) - and still, you have universal ammo (which means using RPGs and the plasma rifle is mostly the same cost as using the SSG, the only difference is they cost more ammo per shots) for the 2 weapon limit you are forced to use. This means strategically placing weapons and ammo is near impossible for a sense of progression. And there's a lot of weapons from SP lacking in MP. At least you have a few new weapons to play with. It is mostly perfect to make MP maps - but they fucked that up royally with the 4 players limit. You end up being in that awkward "I'll make a PVP gamemode... but then I have teams of 2v2 or 4 players free for all." Also add to that the only demon rune unlocked in Snapmap is the baron, and you cannot play any other demon, it's kind of fucked.
Am I doing this right?

You have to set them up to spawn in properly, that's all. If you place 50 monsters set to activate from the start it just wont work. If you set them to spawn in at logical times (or use the pre-set monster spawn triggers which can just ignore the limit altogether) then the limit is massively mitigated. [editline]19th May 2016[/editline] Don't get me wrong though, it's still irritating that there's a limit that low to start with.
Holy shit I got a hard rush playing the new doom. I got the fury/rage powerup and got a rush so hard that I felt short of oxygen. I always thought the rush thing was an exaggeration but that felt like a minute long orgasm. This game is unbelievable.
