They've stated many times that it's a roguelite crossed with an oldschool FPS. They aren't specifically going for one or the other.
Jesus, just let the game stand on its own, it doesn't need your defending.
They've stated many times that it's a roguelite crossed with an oldschool FPS. They aren't specifically going for one or the other.
Which usually means that the different functions of the two genres will bog each other down, so it's not good at either one.
I will never understand what drives them to use a fucking pill instead of the star of life as a red cross replacement. Or a white cross with a green square around it. I mean I get why they remove the red cross, but why is it always so half-assed?
Easier to recognize at a distance at low res? You're dealing with like 16 pixels there, the star of life might not look as good.
Shadow Warrior 2, which has completely random levels
This is false, only specific parts of specific levels are procedural (such as small town areas). Otherwise the world is entirely pre-built.
They censored the red cross. The original symbol was highly offensive towards women and minorities, I reckon.
Not really sure why you feel the need to be a dickhead about this, but it's because the red cross is a copyrighted symbol.
Not really sure why you feel the need to be a dickhead about this, but it's because the red cross is a copyrighted symbol.
Make it pink then, like Skullgirls did.
Not really sure why you feel the need to be a dickhead about this, but it's because the red cross is a copyrighted symbol.
But the crux of the matter is that Gearbox's pill edit fails to capture the spirit of the original: [t]http://i.imgur.com/mzK7dLO.png[/t] The problem is supposedly its shape and color, but heck, you could easily differentiate it while retaining both the shape and color simply by rotating it a little! Here, I'll do it myself: [t]http://i.imgur.com/UhjdCFk.png[/t] But maybe that's a smidgen too close to the red cross, so I went and inversed the color scheme to make it pop a bit more: [t]http://i.imgur.com/mMVqMXA.png[/t] However, the white doesn't blend very well against the red background, so I decreased the lightness of the shape and added a high contrast circular backing: [t]http://i.imgur.com/qe0oCno.png[/t] And just to add a little artistic flair, I put little flags at the ends of cross: [t]http://i.imgur.com/Rr4XTYP.png[/t] See? It would have been super simple for Gearbox to create a perfectly acceptable red cross alternative that wouldn't have offended anybody.
Strafe's randomly generated levels still look like they're better than half of Doom 2.
This is why Doom 1 will forever be my favorite. For all the good things Doom 2 brought, the level design was some of the most nonsensical and asinine I've ever seen.
Oh yeah, remember those maps I made? I kinda released a test build containing 7 maps. Not that awfully large castle-map, since I am STILL not done with it ( partly thanks to getting suckered into FFXIV ) Snib
Speaking of DUSK, has anyone actually managed to download the test level and are there any mirrors for it ? The website's using a garbage host.
Here: https://mega.nz/#!BE0HRTxZ!IY9mfshoqpNGPVucaO0OGmRIrXhCgxo0rRib8_FSTXI I had to download on mobile.
What is DUSK? Every time I look it up I get several other games that aren't FPSes.
What is DUSK? Every time I look it up I get several other games that aren't FPSes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq-T97HLq6s&feature=youtu.be DUSK is a upcoming FPS game that plays like Quake and looks like STALKER, Silent Hill, Blood and other classic FPS games. Im really optimistic about it, the artstyle is really pleasing and the movement is the way i like: Fast and precise.
Not really sure why you feel the need to be a dickhead about this, but it's because the red cross is a copyrighted symbol.
Well not copyright, it is a protected symbol. Either way it's against the law to use it improperly
Is the firerate of guns in DOOM and Wolfenstein: TNO affected by the framerate being below 60FPS?
Easier to recognize at a distance at low res? You're dealing with like 16 pixels there, the star of life might not look as good.
Someone on Doomworld made a whole array of examples for Doom medkits a while ago but I can't find the thread with the spritesheet anymore. They were mostly recognizable, much more so than a pill. And Marphy's post above actually brought up the obvious solution -- they could've just inverted the colors so they look like the ones from Shadow Warrior. There's so many better choices for a medkit sign than a pill.

Everything about this feels wrong, the higher quality audio of Duke's one-liners stands out from the rest of the sounds now, and Jon sounds like he doesn't even give a shit.
that fall damage noise ooOOooo~~~
Why do they always get the absolute worst people to play these demonstrations The guy doesn't even use quick foot once in the whole thing and struggles with basic movement
Why do all the sound effects sound so low quality?
Why do all the sound effects sound so low quality?
They're the original sound effects from the 96 release, but somehow made worse due to their juxtaposition with high definition voice clips.
Now that I hear those voices in this video, they really do sound weird as fuck. I dunno what the hell it is, but it's so off
Now that I hear those voices in this video, they really do sound weird as fuck. I dunno what the hell it is, but it's so off
they didn't even give enough of a shit to downsample the audio $20?? YES PLEASE!!
They're the original sound effects from the 96 release, but somehow made worse due to their juxtaposition with high definition voice clips.
Actually they sound worse in general. Like someone captured them from a microphone. Maybe it's just the video recording but I remember the sounds in the original game being at least a whole lot more crisp and yet this sounds so tinny. While the new weapon scroll menu is nice, it's still pretty much 1:1 to the original game as yet another port beyond the optional 3D engine and new levels. [sp]although i swear he looks like he moves slowly or something, as if his movement speeds were toned down for the game coming to PS4/XBO, but i'm not sure[/sp]
Is the video 60fps or not? I can't tell because I'm on mobile, it'd be pretty pathetic of it was locked to 30fps because even the PS vita version of megaton edition ran at 60fps iirc

[vid]https://my.mixtape.moe/yalkyw.webm[/vid] :goodjob: They fucking managed to make the game's low-fi sounds more muffled and shit.
Why do they always get the absolute worst people to play these demonstrations The guy doesn't even use quick foot once in the whole thing and struggles with basic movement
This was shown at PAX, so odds are it was played in a loud convention hall full of distractions with little or no audio accompanyment while maintaining a conversation with an annoying PR guy.
Maybe it's just the video recording but I remember the sounds in the original game being at least a whole lot more crisp and yet this sounds so tinny.
Different sampling filtering. The original game didn't filter the audio at all, so it was very crisp, as you said.
although i swear he looks like he moves slowly or something, as if his movement speeds were toned down for the game coming to PS4/XBO, but i'm not sure
It's probably auto-run turned off. The movement speeds in the official trailers seemed about right. Remember: Duke doesn't move nearly as fast as the Doom Guy unless he's using Steroids.
