UNLOVED, based on or a remake of a wad for DOOM II is now out on steam.
Pretty sweet. Btw, Icarus has recently done a review of the Unloved WAD [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAOEF_gcotI[/hd] I didn't get that far along when I played it... I was not aware of the slaughter maps later in the game. [editline]30th September 2016[/editline] Slaughter maps/WADs are not bad, provided you have more than enough ammunition to clear the rooms. If the game keeps you tight on ammo, then yeah... it must be a pain in the ass to die and replay that part, over and over.
Also, wtf is this? [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COLcddzTKpQ[/hd]
looks to me like Liero meets Quake 2
looks to me like Liero meets Quake 2
I totally forgot about Liero, i used to play the shit out of Liero Extreme as a teenager.

The first part was really good, tense and atmospheric with gorgeous visuals, the latter half is like the mapmaker got bored with their own work and just decided to cram as much shit from as many different games as they could in to single rooms in the hopes that the player would give up.

Well damn. I'll replay the WAD one of these days and try to get to those parts... if all else fails, I'll idkfa my way out of there. :v: Btw, if you liked Unloved, be sure to check out Demons of Problematique and Demons of Problematique II. I really love the synth ambient tracks in DOOM '16 that play off of the classic OST. The ones that are based off of Suspense and Imp's Song are so damn nice.
[hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP_1Zx79Loo[/hd] :v:
I need more of this in my life. Can we just get this but a whole Ultra Nightmare playthrough version?

So I dunno how retro it's considered, but Shadow Warrior is $4 on Steam right now, the special edition is $5, and the original game redux is $1. I just started playing it and man, that's a fucking incredible price. It (at least the special edition) even comes with a standalone Viscera Cleanup Detail map in case you want to clean up the starting area instead of dirtying it. [editline]a[/editline] This is probably for like the one person in this thread who might not own it
I was that one person, but no longer. Thanks!
I'd be interested, but I doubt I'll be able to run it well - ROTT remake ran at 10FPS for me.
The RoTT Remake is unfortunately in very incompetent hands. Every single patch netted a new framerate for me. Shadow Warrior is a completely different case. My computer is shit, yet I can run most of it at medium.
I've honestly never beaten the Shadow Warrior reboot. It's an alright game, but it feels too long, with too little new content being introduced. I think I'm really only half-way through the game, but it felt like I should've been almost done at that point, since almost nothing new had been introduced in so long.
Shadow Warrior is a good game. I liked it, but it was a bit dragged for too long, i hope SW2 wont have the same problem.
Shadow Warrior is a good game. To be honest, the main problem I had with the Shadow Warrior reboot is that I thought the combat was shit (mainly because the guns felt like pea-shooters and the enemies were really damage spongy), even with the katana. However, I got to demo the second game at PAX East, and while the enemies are still spongy, it isn't to the extend that the previous game was. Also, the guns feel much better this time around. So even with the new mechanics, I can already tell you that I think the second game is an improvement, even if I so far only got to play one level in an uncomplete build.

I used only katana for the entire duration of the game with the exception for using SMGs and Rocket launcher for bosses. Didn't even use weapons like crossbow and others.

That Crossbow felt always clumsy as hell to use, and somehow they managed to make a four-barreled shotgun feel weak even on Normal mode.
On Steam, what's the difference between Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, Shadow Warrior Classic (1997), and Shadow Warrior (Classic)?
Shadow Warrior Classic (1997): The original MS-DOS version, in DOSbox. Was originally intended to be given away as a limited-time Facebook promotion, but after the promo was hacked and all the keys stolen, Devolver just made it F2P to foil any key-selling shenanigans. Shadow Warrior (Classic): Ditto, I believe, but as part of the discontinued 3D Realms Anthology collection. No longer sold. Shadow Warrior Classic Redux: An updated Windows version by the developers of Duke3D Megaton Edition, including two expansion packs, an OpenGL renderer and the usual Steamworks guff like achievements.
I'd like to warn people at this point that Shadow Warrior Classic Redux DOES NOT HAVE ANY MULTIPLAYER. It may be from the same developers of Megaton Edition, but for whatever reason, they did not implement a multiplayer component, even though the base (classic) version has it.

To compare: The Duke3D source code release wasn't the final version, but it was close. Somewhere between the v1.4 Plutonium Pak and the v1.5 Atomic Edition. The Shadow Warrior source code, to quote one of the Eduke32 guys, was "cobbled together from various beta versions before the multiplayer code got much, if any, work." So, that'd probably be why.

That actually makes me wonder, does the new 3DRealms/Interceptor perhaps have a more recent and complete version of the source code for Shadow Warrior among all the Beta files that they can't release due to legal bullshit?

By the way, War of Attrition for Eduke32 just released version 2.0. 1.9 added things Doubled Weapon and Buzzsaw Bonanza (Think of DOOM™ chainsaw) perks and now we get a new enemy, Detect Secrets perk and a new menu icons made by someone named “The Kins”, probably nobody heard about him, yeah totally.
video
what is with sgt mark's obsession with filling the screen with as much shit as humanly possible like is ruining the perfect simplicity of doom's gameplay not enough for him, he's gotta turn the hud in to some battleborn shit too?
