it's not really any different from veteran. infact it's veteran but with hp decay and alot of victory device spam.
I loved Lost Mission especially because you only have guns and no alien shit thing.
Man, you make surviving with 25hp sound like a cake even though Trites and Cherubs one-shot you.

The decals and dead bodies help make things feel more "doom-y"
I can't wait for the DOOM board game. And I'm not being sarcastic either. Those miniatures look cool.

Is there anything else in nightmare to make it different from veteran then, other than the soul cube?
Turret code on demons/zsec ramps up much quicker and fire is more accurate, demon CC does more damage.
On top of that, Doom 64 was meant to be a very eery game. All guts and glory ruins the game's atmosphere even worse than first doom's. What's the point of hell, if hell can't be scary?
I've never understood why people get so pissed about Brutal Doom not sticking to the original theme of the game. I've never seen anyone complain about mods like HL2: SMOD or HL1's "HL2: Jaykin' Bacon Source" or FONV's DUST or any other sort of thing like that.
Like, is it because the developer's a huge asshat or is Doom modding somehow more sacred than other games or something like that?
SMOD started as cs meets the 7 year war.
Jaykin is farting on postal: the gaem.
brutal doom is a mod where 35% of the work done is done by an absolute inexecrable asshat and the rest of the work is done by someone else whom's shit is literally just ripped the fuck off.
The credit list and contribution on Abandon All Hope took up an entire page and I even thanked Marphy... (who does that?)
The other games aren't even kind of like brutal doom and you don't see the mod creators fucking over everyone they come into contact with. The only people remotely in Mark's League of Majestic Flatulence are Skyrim's Kris+a, a holier than thou fuckstick whose entire catalog is DAZ ripoffs, Donut Steel, and Derek Smart, who's literally a patent troll with delusions of devdom at this point.
SMOD started as cs meets the 7 year war.
And turned into cluster-bomb bananas, killer PSPs, and setting Kleiner's lab on fire if you got bored and gave yourself some weapons since you can kill literally every NPC in SMOD.
Jaykin is farting on postal: the gaem.
I said Jaykin' Bacon Source, not JBEP3. Y'know, the one where you can run through HL1's storyline with a chainsaw and M1 Garand and dive past the zombies and etc.

This is an explanation I can live with.

Though Jaykin Bacon is also full of "borrowed" assets.
Has anyone figured out the Slayer requirements for every level in Arcade mode yet?

Because BD is the only one that has actually affected the public concious of what the game is supposed to be like, no one looks at smod and says "This is what Valve should have done in the first place" In fact, I don't even recognize most of those mods, as in "never even heard".
Brutal Half life is cool though.
high-res textures look so good with low-res sprites woo
and filters for good measure

I personally couldn't give two shits about SgtMark himself or what he's said and done, but what never fails to tick me off, considering the huge history of modding this game has, are comments like these:

zsec are the most dangerous obviously with hitscan but everything else is dodgeable or can be shot down or grabbed.
oh and the grabber auto one-shots anything smaller than a imp

I find myself having trouble dodging Imp splash damage or when they suddenly leap at you. Or that Trite spam. Or how later levels (including Hell) is full of annoying-ass Cherubs with with little room to dodge 'em.

Hell on Earth Starter Pack is legitimately awesome too, really good maps.
Hell on Earth Starter Pack is legitimately awesome too, really good maps.
Though some are quite literally touch-ups of Freedoom maps. But it is a good mapset if you want some chaos without going to slaughtermap extents.
Brutal Doom itself is not really what I have a problem with. The mod itself is a fun little novelty. It's a little too unbalanced and messy for me, but it's ultimately harmless.
SGTMark himself and especially his rabid spastic fanbase the the things I really don't like about it. They're mostly kids who have literally never played any classic Doom until Brutal Doom came out who gush all over it and start shouting about how Brutal Doom is the way it's meant to be played, how SGTMark is the god of Doom mods even though he resorted to stealing a bunch of people's work (without even crediting them) to put in his mod and is in general a lousy piece of shit, and how Doom/Doom modding was somehow shit before Brutal Doom arrived.
Their general attitude towards any other mod is usually "well if it doesn't work with brutal doom its shit lolol" which is really toxic and somewhat detrimental to the modding commuinty. SGTMark himself encourages this behaviour and uses it to stroke his enormous ego. Almost any kind of criticism of the mod is met with all of his white knights accusing his critics of being jealous and asking if they could make a better mod, as if any of that has to do with anything.
Mark and his diehard fans have created a toxic splotch in an otherwise amazing community, and that's generally why Brutal Doom is panned. Nothing really to do with the mod itself.
Another discussion about Brutal Doom? Once again I'm linking this to avoid repeating (Also page 125): https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1148345&page=124
I don't pay attention to mod politics or drama. I just play fun things, I dunno.

Is it really a surprising thing that people who really like Brutal Doom post comments praising the mod on Brutal Doom videos? There's absolutely nothing to complain about there.

Try this then, a drinking game if you dare. Look for a video related to Doom, now search and see how many times the word "Brutal Doom" shows up in the comments. Most likely it will be a lot of people asking someone to play it.
