Is it really a surprising thing that people who really like Brutal Doom post comments praising the mod on Brutal Doom videos? There's absolutely nothing to complain about there.
There's nothing wrong with liking Brutal Doom. It's the attitude that anything that's not Brutal Doom is shit that gets under my skin.
[editline]25th October 2016[/editline]
To be fair, the Brutal Doom gushing isn't as prevalent anymore, but there was a moment in time where no one could talk about anything Doom related without it being brought up and overly placated. Yes, it's a popular mod. Yes, it can be fun. Can we stop treating it like the end-all-be-all of Doom mods?
I know everyone here bashes old Doom 4 for being Call of Duty, but honestly I want to see more of that version. How often do you get a tacticool dudebro modern military shooter set in post-apocalyptic America (and not another Eastern European city with a huge tower at the center) where regular 'Muricans has to fend off a demon invasion with the power of patriotism?
Where's Marphy Black's DOOM 2016 review that he probably posted after giving someone an Optimistic for singing praises about the game?
I had a full Doom series video retrospective planned, but I didn't have time to make it. Here's an excerpt summary of the final review scores from the original script:
Doom/Doom 2: 6 out of 6 NPM
Doom 64: 6 out of 6 NPM
Doom 3: 2 out of 6 NPM
Doom 4: 0 out of 6 NPM
So, by my calculations, Doom 4 earned a 0%.
Also, to avoid any possibilities of bias, I forgot to mention that my review criteria was calculated in the purely objective measure of NPM, or Nipples Per Mancubus.

you add more compotent side characters, take out the scifi guns, or don't go to hell, it's not really doom anymore
as it's own thing? idunno maybe

Don't Doom 64's Mancubus only have 4 nipples? I'm a Mancubus IRL too, so you can count on me to tell the difference between manboobs and layers of fat.

Yeah, as it's own thing. Modern Military vs Hell on Earth is something I have only seen in one other game series.
Also, I think one of the concept art has them going to Hell through the glowing tower thing. Hell, I could even predict the plot. You're some pansy ass average joe until the demons killed your wife and daughter or something, so you joined up with the United American Coalition to send the demons back to hell and close the portal so they can stop coming in and eat humans. Throughout the game, you earn the trust of the jaded sergeant guy and build a relationship with a tough ass girl who eventually dies near the end so now it's personal. Eventually you gain command of the UAC and kill the Cyberdemon and have some monologue about rebuilding the world in the ending.
W-why is playing fun things funny? ;~;
we talking movies or what
games. The point is that it has to have biblical demons, not aliens (DOOM, starring The Rock) or Locusts or zombies or mutants or shit like that.
Also, if you know any (good) movies like that, do tell me.
Don't Doom 64's Mancubus only have 4 nipples?
The Doom 64 Mancubus does have six nipples. In the above render, while his lower rightmost nipple is obscured, his full leftmost column of three nipples is completely visible. In my script, I actually gave Doom 64 an extra two points for its Mancubi's large areola size and pleasingly long and erect nipple protrusions. I then subtracted two points for no Revenants.

There's nothing wrong with side characters as long as they are added in right and are fun to interact with. I would've liked it if there were a few living people in Doom 4 just so we could get more insight into how the facility was run. Then they die like five minutes later when they explode into blood because of demon magic or some shit.
Holy shit, I was just thinking about old DOOM '16 stuff that got shown off a while back, and every time I think about E3 '14 and '15, I keep remembering little stuff that just isn't there in the final game.
Anyone remember the whole "Super Chainsaw" thing that everyone kept pointing out?
Fuck man, I swear at some point I'm going to catalogue all the notable shit from early demos, discussions, and reports that just doesn't even appear in the slightest in the game we got.

I liked how Doom 3 still had people around, they weren't common, but always were at obscure places some it made sense how they could have survived till now. And I also liked that they don't die onscreen, leaving their fate mystery, unless you go HL1 style and gib 'em.
I wished they explained what happened with Sarge/Sabaoth more clearly. Sabaoth's existence is quite random and only serves to kill off the BFG Guy as well as being the first enemy in the series to use the BFG against you (technically, Quake 2 did it first).
I've never understood why people get so pissed about Brutal Doom not sticking to the original theme of the game. I've never seen anyone complain about mods like HL2: SMOD or HL1's "HL2: Jaykin' Bacon Source" or FONV's DUST or any other sort of thing like that.
Like, is it because the developer's a huge asshat or is Doom modding somehow more sacred than other games or something like that?
People attempt to criticize the mod itself as though it gives them a better moral high ground than attacking the modder. I honestly don't care either way, I just play mods that I like and enjoy. I don't care what other people play, though the BD detractors are as bad as the BD fanboys at this point. It flares up here every once in awhile, but it's way worse over at Doomworld/Zdoom forums where they're a mix of purists and people that just don't like him.
I think he's actually shown a lot of restraint with BD 64 so far, since it still mostly adheres to the feel of the game, rather than going full metal, flipping things off, etc. I'll be trying it out next week when it's out since I just love all things Doom 64 anyway.
Got the new Doom on sale on Steam, but I have to wait for my new harddrive to arrive to actually play it. Boooo.

Yeah, I was really disappointed to never see anyone alive ever in Doom 4. It added more to the sense that I was just running through a series of TDM maps with enemies spawning in.
Yeah my favorite little bit in Doom was when you do the hologram thing and you see people running through a big door and security troopers making a last stand to protect them. Was really hoping it'd lead to some survivors but nah

It seems to be a conscious choice judging by what they said at Quakecon. The game was seemingly going to have a very different take on Samuel and more character conversations, both passive and active, but fan reception and the realization that Doom is thought of to be best when it's going all action meant that most of those concepts got scrapped or turned into echoes / data log stuff probably. Not that it stopped them from having moments like the two Samuel conversations where you're just sort of standing there.
It's kinda lame but an understandable sacrifice at least.
I still can't believe that Samuel was supposed to be a sort of Wheatley crossed with Cave Johnson character.
Also, I'd love to see some of the early versions of Samuel that were apparently so fucking huge that they realized they couldn't fit him in any of the situations they wanted to use him in so they had to create his current form.
I'd love to see more concept art of the game in general.
I want a dlc where you play as Samuel. I wanna be a giant demon slaying robot man.

but whatever he might as well have been

This Samuel looks like a body made without much time for refinement, like you could easily push him over. Hell, maybe it was an early body in-universe (and infact elements of this design looked like they made it onto the final Revenant). The final version looks like he could fucking punch you through a wall if he felt like it.

And he also doesn't own beer to anyone.
where and when was this said wtf
During that Quakecon panel where they showed some early footage of the games and talked about cut stuff.
Right around the time they showed the super short snippet of Comedy Relief Hayden.

I don't think it's even necessarily a story addition, it just adds to the ambience of the setting. Things feel a lot more dangerous when you see other soldiers, scientists etc dying left and right. Meeting up with them briefly like you did in Doom 3 did a great job of adding a feeling of narrative/other things going on with minimal effort.

That is what I get for failing at English. Weird Americans having words that sound the same.
ugh why did DUSK show so much footage when they're only releasing sometime next year
i want it
So I got curious about the differences between the cod engines and how different they became to be from Quake III, so when I saw tessellation being added in later down the line I had to find out what it meant.
I went to nvidia's site and in one of the examples I saw this:
[t]https://my.mixtape.moe/uymyez.png[/t]
It's from id software, looks like a cross between the imp and one of the hell knight from 3, at the bottom it says it's from 2008.
Could it be from the canceled Doom 4 or am I just late as shit?
Is he strong because he's muscular, or is he weak because his veins is popping out just to use a steering wheel?

Looks like the old Doom 4 Imp that looks like a Doom 3 Hell Knight.
