The only sound I really hate for BD64 is the chaingun, the damn thing is ridiculously loud.
This would be possible in a perfect world where Mark's coding wasn't always a fucking tangled spaghetti nightmare with random shit being needlessly renamed.
Should be fine, I threw a sound mod over BD64 earlier and it worked well.
Has there been any news about a Marathon remake/reboot after Bungie is done with Destiny? They filed a trademark for it around 2010 but I haven't heard anything about it since. If a modern Marathon got the same treatment Doom did (re-imagining the design and pacing of the original) it could be quite good methinks, especially if it retained the level complexity (albeit with modern level design ethics). I hold Marathon dear to my heart but part of the problem with making a new Marathon is that a lot of the aspects that make it stand out today are things that do not have widespread appeal. It is mostly the terminals and the very complex and intriguing story. The gunplay was slower than DOOM, but not as clunky as System Shock. I usually find it easier to describe it as a middle ground between those titles. In some ways I would imagine it would hold more similarities with a modern Deus Ex with it's missions and infiltration, rather than DOOM's fast paced action and blasting that was always so focused on pushing forward.

More seriously, there was something in Bungie's contract with Activision that gave them some leeway to have a small team build a new Marathon on the side... but Destiny was such a goddamn messy clusterfuck behind the scenes that I'd be incredibly surprised if that wasn't quickly cast aside to get all hands on deck with fire extinguishers in hand.

i feel like this is like something straight out of MDK
I accidentally ended up making a map while messing around with some of the new stuff from the last update. I also ended up wanting to see what a perma-berserk map would be like [sp] answer: not as good as you'd think [/sp]. So here's 'Ravenous Fury' I guess.
So I've been playing through Brutal Doom 64 and I have to admit, it's pretty neat. It doesn't go overboard with the "brutal" aspect and even though it has some silly things added to it, the new look of the maps alone should be worth a playthrough in my opinion. I have some issues with it, one of the biggest being the dart traps are really fucking loud. I mean they're really loud, the first time I had to hear about fifty of them launching at the same time in the blue key room of the dark citadel I both had a heart attack and blew my eardrums. They're like a jumpscare, I don't remember the D64 maps well enough to know where all of the traps are and everytime more than two of them shoot at the same time it's like somebody firing a gun right next to my ears
Even when I was going through the maps separately with D4D the dart traps are ear rape. Getting my first experience with it in Hectic was enough for me to partially yank my headphones off.
Finxed my crashing issues (I hope) by switching to Vulkan graohix API (no idea what this means I just know there's a 'Vulcan' thing in my installed programs) and by changing my anti-aliasing setting. One of those did a good thing, but I don't know which or both.
i can appreciate how doom 4 paints doomguy as a badass without going brutal doom's route of making him look like a final fantasy oc
i can appreciate how doom 4 paints doomguy as a badass without going brutal doom's route of making him look like a final fantasy oc
I dunno how you see Brutal Doom's depiction as anything Final Fantasy related. Everything BD does with Doomguy is usually a steroid muscle bound sociopath that can't stop telling demons to go fuck themselves while quoting the comic. If anything, the Doom Slayer's depiction is, while very western, more fantasy-esque [sp]given that he has a suit of armor made by a Demon and blessed by a Seraphim, and literally wielded a laser energy sword powered by Hell itself as he genocided countless demons to the point of being the dreaded, self-made ancient evil to the proverbial ancient evil itself.[/sp]
It's probably passive-agressive hate-boner for Mark_IV and BD in general that comes with unstoppable desire to let everyone know that BD sucks, nothing new or unusual.
It's probably passive-agressive hate-boner for Mark_IV and BD in general that comes with unstoppable desire to let everyone know that BD sucks, nothing new or unusual.
I just think there's a point when you try too hard when your main character flips off enemies screaming "FUCK YOU" in a deep roid rage voice while a bunch of gibs fly around. I think the potrayal of doomguy is just trying really hard in BD, other than that. I have fun with the mod, but some details really just stick out to me and it personally makes the experience a little less grand, to me. that last part's kinda hard to put in words
To be frank, I think the point was missed. By saying "Final Fantasy OC" he means an edgy unoriginal silly goofy character that is poorly written and in the case of OCs, typically a self-insert power fantasy. Basically, he is saying he is glad that the Doom 2016 Marine is a badass and cool character that has an epic lore that justifies why he is the way he is and the game doesn't basically suck his dick and talk about his edgy dark past and be extremely goofy and cringe-worthy. He is not saying anything about actual fantasy elements or tropes. Simply the depiction of the character, how he acts, how the story treats him, and how the world/people treat him. [editline]2nd November 2016[/editline] I also feel its fair to critique this or say it of Brutal Doom. Its a fun mod, a very fun mod, but its goofy and silly, very cheesy and not to be taken seriously and is incredibly wacky with all the dumb crap you can do. Doom 2016 feels to me like a comic book, one that wears its heart on its sleeve and has no problem expressing its personality, but does have a serious grounding and backbone, a serious story and world its trying to convey. Its the funny guy you like but you sometimes realize how serious and intelligent he can be as a person Brutal Doom is similar but without that serious grounding or backbone. He is still a funny guy you like but he is almost non-stop with his goofiness and wackiness and goes further than the first guy in how wacky he can be and he almost never really shows anything serious

I like how Doomguy in Doom 4 never talks. Prevented "Rip and tear" becoming the next "War, war never changes". Fallout 4 pushes that shit in your face so much...
I like how Doomguy in Doom 4 never talks. Prevented "Rip and tear" becoming the next "War, war never changes". Fallout 4 pushes that shit in your face so much...
no dialogue could do his sheer anger justice it was expressed much better with silence
DOOMguy is a bit too silent. At least grunt to let us know when we are taking damage.
no dialogue could do his sheer anger justice it was expressed much better with silence
Probably Doomguy spends the entire game internally screaming in rage.
DOOMguy is a bit too silent. At least grunt to let us know when we are taking damage.
jump down the first cliff 'unf'
doomguy really needs a hug. he has a lot of pent up agression
I do like silent Doomguy, but I do miss the UNFFFs and UGGHs and the occasional UAAAAAAGGGGHHH.
It's pretty impressive how good a character id software managed to make doomguy into without ever having him saying a word. Considering i knew he wasn't gonna even make sound i thought he was gonna have less personality than the original character but it turned out they did it in a different way. They managed better characterization than some movies do
doomguy really needs a hug. he has a lot of pent up agression
After [sp]losing his home planet, his fellow warriors and pretty much everything he's probably ever cared for,[/sp] I imagine he's more than satisfied with personally devoting himself to efficiently ripping apart demons until no more are left. The aggression is just a tool to direct that slaughter. And he probably won't feel his work is done until there's no place for bad people to go when they die anymore.
DOOMguy is a bit too silent. At least grunt to let us know when we are taking damage.
I like to think that he's too pissed off to even feel pain. The only thing he can feel is rage.

Reminds me of some rookie HL2 mods I used to make.

Great minds think alike, ayy? ... I need to get back to Final Doom actually. I'm find the Platonia Experiment difficult, should I beat TNT first?
