I want a mini Doom campaign where we play as the demons attacking Mars. Game ends with Doom Guy ripping your guts out.
"Character action means it has mechanics and move lists similar to how fighting games work," or so says a quick Google look.
Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Rising are good examples. God of War, too.
In hindsight a lot of Doom 4 mechanics are pretty much the FPS version of God of War in certain ways, just no button-mashing QTEs.
Aye, and even though there are a lot of contextual kills in the game, they're usually over so quickly that you're usually done in a jiffy. And in a strange way, rather than break up the flow, at points they almost seemed like a part of the flow, especially since a glory-killed enemy explodes into health to help keep you in the fight. Which now I think about it, is a delicious little stroke of mechanical genius to have a degree of easily-accessible recovery without the cheap cop-out of rapid "walk-it-off-soldier" health regeneration, or the tried and true tactic of popping a carried health item a'la BioShock, F.E.A.R., and a lot of hack-and-slash RPGS.
Though I will admit that some of the monsters could probably have done with a few more glory kill animations, for the sake of variety. Doesn't the Baron of Hell only have that one where you tear off his horn and smack him with it? Or did I merely forget to glory kill them from behind?
that would be easily remedied with just having enemies stumble and turn in a random direction instead of always facing you

Don't say it like killing enemies for supplies is a new invention. It was used back in the Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode for NES.

It's not that it's a new invention, even in the original Doom certain enemies dropped ammo/weapons when they died. I think what's different here is that there is a certain degree of risk/reward in the gameplay, with glory kills being somewhat riskier than just shooting them but giving the player more of a reward in terms of ammo and health. I also think the chainsaw system is pretty neat, giving the player more control over the ammo/health drops and giving them a sort of panic button they can use when things get tough.

Arcane Dimensions 1.5 is out now! Grab it while it's hot!
What the fuck I was just looking up AD wondering how long the update was gonna take
Does AD work decently in co-op? It'd be fun to try out some of the new shit with people :v:
Really liked the new AD maps with the Snow/Persian theme.
Still gotta play the others tho (except from Arcane Monstrosity, i already played Metal Monstrosity before)
How does Arcane Dimensions work, anyways? Is it laid out similar to Hexen or what?
How does Arcane Dimensions work, anyways? Is it laid out similar to Hexen or what?
Nope, its basically a bunch of maps that you can select to play.
It has no specific order, however, the teleport under one of the elevators now asks about "runes", which wasn't there before, so i guess they now have some sort of completion order.
That was there before, it's a secret level entrance to a credits map

idk how well it works but there's coop spawns now in the maps

we should do that, might be fun

If you guys do this, don't forget to tell me, i would love to.
Also, Bloodshot12, what was your steam again? You removed me for no reason.
I get hunk_alloc error trying to play AD, any suggestions?
DOOM 4 is the only PC game made post-2005 that doesn't cause me headaches with the balance of framerate stability and looking pretty and for that I am thankful.
the optimisation is amazing, runs so well for how good it looks

Yeah, it's quite hard to get headache from a slideshow.
(Update to Windows 10 screwed up something, and after it, I haven't been able to play even Bioshock 2 with a stable framerate.)
If we play coop, which port should we use? Darkplaces has network saving/loading, but QS is more faithful

I did? Strange. It's bloodshot1

What engine are you using? If it's QS try this "-heapsize 256000 -zone 4096" at the end of the shortcut

I'd rather use Quakespasm myself.

I have to do a double take to realize I'm playing Quake with this mod
I have Unreal 2 and I dont remember how far I got last time I played it, but should I try it out again? Should I also try out Unreal 1?

Of course! Beat Unreal 1 and Return to Na Pali before doing Unreal 2.

Unreal 2 doesn't have anything to do with the 1st game. So it doesn't matter what Unreal game you start 1st.
I remember people not really liking Unreal 2 when it first came out. I remember playing it and loving it. It didn't have the sense of exploration of the first Unreal, but it did have some fantastic art and good gameplay.
I released a gameplay testing build of my mod. If you try it out, report any frame rate problems, as they are related to the minimap in the HUD.

You need to beat the first one to be disappointed by the second.
I loved AD, it's pretty hard, but I love the variation in maps. Anything else like it out there for Quake, Doom, even HL?
I'd love to see the minimap part as a standalone mod or something. Wanted that for a while.
