I found this site called Instant-Gaming and Doom is 48% off there, do you guys think it's trustworthy?

I have hunch that Pillowblaster had influence over Demonsteele's 2nd character.
It "looks" cool, but having to boot that up and do the fancy graphics for what kills everything in the room seems like a huge diversion from fun gameplay.
Ok back to the game
I can see Doomguy survive great heights, but how high can he drop before it's considered fatal?

If it's an abyss with no seeming bottom, or something that is clearly far and away from the map, then he just sort of explodes into giblets in mid-air if he falls into a pit. It'll make sense, even if certain platforming bits are a bitch. But the kill triggers are a little weird and basically solid invisible ground sometimes, to the point that it can trigger the 'helmet slams onto the ground and rolls to a stop' death animation, though the screen tries to fade to black before you can see all of it usually.
dont ever fall off during the argent tower sections
just dont
i fell off and tried to land on one of those platforming yellow elevators that carry you up to the 2nd part to dampen my fall height
one of those elevator didnt have any collision so i fell all the way back to the bottom and died
I'm still not past Lazarus Labs since I haven't played the game again after a CTD last week, due to Bloodborne and Dragon's Dogma eating up my time, but is that one of the only cases in the game where a raw drop even in map geometry can kill you outside of pits?
There are few holes in the Argent tower geometry if some how survive falling.
i want to make another snapmap but i dont know what the best way to put down armor, weapons and ammo is
sometimes i feel too greedy, sometimes too generous or sometimes i neglect stuff like ammunition while overstocking on health
does anyone have advice for that?

Play through it a few times in a row and make notes of where you repeatedly run low on certain things and then think about how best to implement more of that into specific sections. As for having too much of something, make notes of where you came across armor, health or ammo when you didn't really need it and try taking a few of them out. Although be careful not to remove too many.

Just reference the campaign and see how they do it. Put mostly health packs down, big ones between large fights and smaller ones dotted about for mid-combat healing, then add small armour pieces in lines or groups so that they're fun to pick up and place medium/large armour in hard to reach/secret places
Health is a necessity, armour is a prize
edit: with weapons, maybe mix it up? A lot of people expect to start with a shotgun or HAR but give a non-conventional weapon like the hellshot or the lightning gun and see how it rebalances your level

rigorous play testing
ammo before fight
health after fight
armor as a reward (optional route / secret)
small amounts of all of the above scattered all over the place / during fights
Those item placement tactics work pretty well for classic DOOM maps as well, and really just mapping for games in general.
But you should also mix stuff up to keep it interesting, because following the same formula through a whole map/game can make it too predictable and uninteresting.
Sometimes you can give a player more health and armor in a fight, while not giving them much ammo, making them think and try to conserve their ammo.
got the game, will have to wait about 2 full days

Well got to level 5 in the MP, now to never play that terrible mess again

If you die while playtesting your map, take note of where you died and add a few supplies there. My friend gave me this advice when I was working on a map in GZDoom builder and I find it to be insanely useful.
I went back to MP at Doom 2016. This time packed with my own custom loadout which is mainly about dealing with Chaingunners. Rocket Launcher, Super Shotgun and a Personal Teleporter. Died a few times when I wasn't paying attention but later on, they stood no chance.
I think in my last game before i got to level 5 the whole opposing team were using the chaingun, like what the hell, how can you screw the balance up that bad
I'm still being productive.

The Cacodemons in this game will never not be silly
It looks like he's so fuckin giggly because of how funny it's going to be when he scares someone.
guys I'm a retard who evidently can't read the OP
I downloaded GZDoom and got my hands on a Doom 1 IWAD, but I seem to be stuck with auto-aim and non-mouse look
How would I enable mouse look to get an experience similiar to modern FPSs?

Options > Mouse Options > Always Mouselook On
Options > Player Setup > Autoaim 0.0
Told you.
Can't rate so have my love instead <3
Man am I bad at finding secrets
I found one level switch, and I end up not finding the fucking level, getting locked out from going to it.
You can just go back and replay the levels up to the secrets you missed and then quit, the game doesn't require full completion to keep track of these.
It's actually kind of astounding how stupid the balance in the full game MP is. The Beta was far better ironically.
Who thought the Hellshot or the Burst rifle were good ideas? These two weapons are just outclassed by the Plasma Rifle and the Assault Rifle in every way. And yet still those two, along with the Lightning gun are completely outclassed by the Chaingun.
And with practically every loadout you have to pick either the Combat Shotgun or the Super Shotgun or you're fucked in close quarters.

I find the hellshot to be a fun weapon, but everything is so unbalanced that there's never any good time to use it.
I tear shit up with the Hellshot but haven't found practical applications for the burst rifle. Even the AR seems better but both are easily outclassed by the chaingun.
re: combat shotty/SSG 4 of my loadouts have combat and one has SSG.
