Maybe it's because I'm playing on ultra violence for my first play through, but is it just me or is shotgun ammo sorta rare? I find myself being low on ammo after most gunfights. Although I might just be bad idk.

It happens to me sometimes on HMP too, but that's because the Combat Shotgun and Super Shotgun are my go-to weapons, and this is with full ammo upgrades. But it's a good thing I can get all that ammo back with only one Chainsaw fuel if there's an imp or possessed still around.
brutal doom starter pack how do I get to the two secret level's for this fan made expansion?
It's actually kind of astounding how stupid the balance in the full game MP is. The Beta was far better ironically.
Who thought the Hellshot or the Burst rifle were good ideas? These two weapons are just outclassed by the Plasma Rifle and the Assault Rifle in every way. And yet still those two, along with the Lightning gun are completely outclassed by the Chaingun.
And with practically every loadout you have to pick either the Combat Shotgun or the Super Shotgun or you're fucked in close quarters.
I honestly loved the Beta, I'd rather play that over this mess any time. With the Chain gun, MP isn't even fun for me anymore. 80% of my deaths are to dude who only use the chain gun. I'm actually angry at it's addition
Like, the same dude can kill you over and over again no matter what if they're a master with their loadout. Ammo, health, and armor is heavily saturated, and you always spawn with the weapons you are the most effective with, so even if you manage to kill the guy(s) annihilating your team, they're back in 5 seconds with little penalty.

I do appreciate VEGA's announcerness, because while other competitive games like to furiously perform oral sex on the top player (MEGAKIILLL, UNSTOPPABLLEE, YOU'RE A MURDER MACHIIINE) and broadcast it to everyone else, he only talks to you about things you are doing and in a pleasant tone.
So, how good is the optimalisation of the new Doom? I ran New Order on medium I think, will I be able to play Doom?
What a shame there are no demos, would've used one now.

you should be fine if you're okay with med

I can play The New Order pretty damn fine on high settings, besides shadow resolution and maybe like one other setting. But the engine upgrades and the fact that Doom doesn't really look ugly due to having a good number of its effects rendered even on the lowest option settings means that if you're under-spec, you'll either have poor performance like me or in some cases not be able to play at all.
Anyone else think that a serious opportunity of a lifetime was missed by this game not being a 4/20 release?
...Though I suppose the posterity and sheer audacity of it wouldn't be worth repeating Skyrim's mistake of being rushed out unfinished to release on 11/11/11.

Skyrim wasn't rushed though ? Bethesda just sucks ass at polishing the jank off of their games.

There's nothing significant about that date to do with the franchise. Doom has nothing to do with weed or 4/20 at all. I would bet money that the original id team never touched the stuff in their goddamn life, except maybe American Mcgee, and I don't know about you, but I don't class that guy as "original id".

What does cannabis have to do with DOOM? Most people celebrating 4/20 would have been too baked for doom, I sure as hell was. Friday the 13th release date was perfect.
anyone know part of the soundtrack is playing when you are [sp]killing vega?[/sp]

Romero's pretty clearly baked here:

Let me think this through...
Did you seriously just fucking suggest that it would've been a good idea for DOOM to get released on the anniversary of the fucking Columbine Massacre?

Took long enough.
Real talk though, the real OG release date should have been to delay this game to hit June 6th.

It's almost funny how much of a fucking crutch the chaingun is. I've seen so many people just stand around while I run all over the fucking place, shooting rockets at them and blasting them in the face with the ssg, and yet they still kill me
That said, rocket launcher + ssg is the only loadout I ever need anymore. Pop a rocket, get close, blast them with the ssg, let them run while I switch to the rl again, gib them to bits if that ssg blast didn't kill them
i haven't played multiplayer, but the super shotgun is the only gun you need to use in the singleplayer. nothing else is as good
fuck that
shotty 'nade in the face, couple of micro rockets, finish with gauss gun, rinse and repeat
[editline]27th May 2016[/editline]
the gunslinging in singleplayer is fucking great once you get that switch speed increase upgrade
Id really need to step in post-launch and deal with multiplayer themselves rather than keep it in Certain Affinity's hands. I don't know how a game with such great singleplayer has such bad multiplayer, usually the mere presence of both tends to weigh down both into average or mediocrity.

Depends on your hardware. I will say that the id Tech 6 engine seems to be much better optimized than id Tech 5 (which is what the new Wolfenstein's used.)
For example, TNO would frequently drop below 60 FPS for me on the highest settings at 1920x1080, but DOOM on full Ultra (not including Nightmare settings because not enough VRAM) never really drops below 75 FPS for me. It's frequently up in the 90s, and in fact, I just got done playing a session where I saw framerates up to 144. This while looking much better and having much higher quality assets than TNO.
I don't know what sort of magic one of the former graphics engineers from Crytek did with the engine, but my god. With the kind of framerates I'm getting, part of me wants to see someone make a VR mod for this game. Though it would probably be terrifying as shit and cause serious motion sickness.
Of course, it all depends on your hardware, though I would imagine lower specced PCs would still have an easier time trying to run DOOM than any id Tech 5 game.

As someone who's playing the game on Nightmare, this is definitely not the case.
The super shotty is amazing (as it should be), but getting close enough to get good damage on certain demons is practically suicide.
I find myself switching between weapons a lot, which I consider a good thing. I like having multiple tools for different scenarios. Well, except for the pistol. I don't think anyone uses that anymore after getting the 3rd weapon in the playthrough.

Id taking over and completely overhauling the multiplayer would be a great way to get me to play it more.
Hell I might even consider the season pass in that case.

Excellent stuff, as expected of Skillsaw. And unfortunately, rather mod-unfriendly.
The custom palettes don't do well with many mods...

If you want to play with mods, just open the mod file in SLADE and convert all sprites to png.
Snapmap and mp could and should be better
I will bet you actual fucking money that id Software wanted to do the MP and Snapmap themselves, and as soon as Bethesda realized that it would mean longer development time for the game, they stepped in, said "Nah-ah-ah, I don't think so.", and handed those modes off to separate studios so the game could get on shelves faster.
The signs are really there, with SnapMap starting as actually being produced by id themselves, (I mean, Carmack himself worked on the earliest versions of it before he left). And the fact that the MP mode had a functional Server Browser, Private Match mode, and even the code for changeable preferences and options for private matches, all of which aren't present in the final game, which is just an absolute fucking shame.
That whole side of the game feels like a sad wrestle between publisher and developer, from several people at id obviously wanting mod support, while I imagine that Bethesda/Zeni have repeatedly forced them to tear out such features and made the ones that used to be there unusable.

Well difference is Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda the publisher.
Secondly, Bethsoft, even if they had a decade, would probably still put out a game that felt rushed. Pretty much always finished in the next year after release.
Edit: Thirdly, 4/20 sounds like the dumbest gimmick they could do. Would appeal to kids who think it's funny.
