I've recently been pretty amped up about DOOM for some odd reason. I recently beat DOOM, DOOM 2, DOOM 64, DOOM 3 and now I'm working on TNT and Plutonia, with DOOM RPG on the side.
After that, it'll be the new DOOM, which I sincerely hope sorts its shit out in terms of the MP and Snapmap by the time that comes to be. From everything I've seen, it's potential is sky high but console limitations are dragging it down.

I was on map22 Impossible mission of Plutonia when my save got erased.
I just found a graphical issue with the game that was probably just overlooked by id, but now it's triggering me hard. Throwing together a diagram right now so that I can march down to Marty Stratton and start yelling at him.
So, like, what now?
Playing through the game again in Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare isn't doing anything for me, SnapMap is annoying to use, and the multiplayer is giving me more grief than enjoyment.

Well, I am sure that there are games that you own but haven't finished yet, or am I just generalizing based on myself?
I can't believe those Lithographs for the new game are already sold out.
They better do another run, because I'll be so fucking salty if I can never have that alt-cover poster on my wall.
I thought Doom '93 would bore me quickly. Boy was I wrong.
Figured the humongous maps would be a chore to navigate, and instead I'm even enjoying my backtracking.
the plot of doom 4 in a nutshell..

Ahem.

Also I don't recall ever mentioning Bethesda at all in that post. The matter of rushing something out to hit a specific number date for shits and giggles applies to everyone. Skyrim's 11/11/11 is just the most infamous.
Is there a Chocolate Doom of Quake source ports?

The Shadow Warrior remake is about the closest thing I can think of to being similar to this game. Give it a try, it's pretty fun.

they said its implementation of a crash dump uploader.
aww, i was hoping they fixed my keybind reset issue
This game has eternally fucked up my keybinding sensibilities.
I keep pressing 2 in classic DOOM to go to my Shotgun, and keep wondering why my chainsaw won't pop up when I press G.
Y'know, either I'm crazy or this feels like Id wanted to make a Quake game but went with Doom for brand recognition. Level design reminds me a lot of Quake 2's psuedo-Metroid levels. Though maybe my vision is fogged by the fact that Quake has always been 3D whilst previous Doom games were distinctly 2D in gameplay.
Any former Retro devs who worked on this? Because this reminds me a lot of Metroid Prime 3, but with Quake gunplay. Other, than of course, that one ex-Retro guy who got fired back in 2012 after his stint as the Director of the ill-fated Doom 4 (The one on Earth that leakers implied was going to be a CoD clone).
i agree, a lot of the outside areas especially felt like quake 2
i agree, a lot of the outside areas especially felt like quake 2
Though yeah, Doom deserved its time in the limelight again after being shoved in the closet for the past 15 years while Quake and Wolfenstein got milked by Activision.
I just wish Quake 1 and Quake 2 both got amazing reboot/sequels that were respective to their own universes.
Quake 2 done by Machinegames, I'd fucking love, give me that grim dark TNO shit but in that gritty sci-fi style of Quake 2, give me a few squadmates I'll actually interact with and care about as the strogg gruesomely pick them off (and other squads as well). Couple that with some genuine body horror shit and I'd eat it the fuck up.
It'd so work as this high speed high pace shooter that couples itself with uncomfortable uneasy feelings. Like if you were playing TNO's gunplay while at the same time making the decision at the prologue.
Basically, give me a Terminator game but its Quake 2.
As for Quake 1, depends; its a lot more "loose" of a universe and story set-up and it was originally meant to be a melee adventure game so thats a bigger debate imo.

I'm almost certain we're going to get a Quake 5 or reboot sooner rather than later. TNO and Doom 4 shows that there's a still huge market for old school shooters. Maybe Machine Games and id can work together on a new Quake or something.
[editline]27th May 2016[/editline]
and honestly I don't get why people hate Quake 2 so much. I still think Quake 1 is a better game, but by no means is 2 shit like some people say.

Finally someone who likes Quake 2.
I see so many people on the internet wanting a Quake reboot to be based off of Quake 1/3, despite the fact that the Quake 2-universe games make up the majority of the IP. Like, I keep seeing a lot of places (Particularly, the dreaded dungeons of /v/ and their whiskey-and-cigars (Much sophisticated) cousins at GAF) refer to Quake 2 and 4 as "Generic"/"Boring".
Granted a lot of those same people like to pretend Quake 4 and Quake Wars don't exist because Activision.
I just want an in-depth look at the development of this game, and mainly what happened with DOOM '12, and what happened between DOOM '12, and the development of DOOM '16.
Especially after someone pointed out the small similarities between the two games, such as a nearly identical SSG model, and a distant tower being visible that's beaming a portal straight to hell in the sky.
I feel like the DOOM we got, has a lot more in common with "CoD DOOM" than a lot of us think.

I like Quake 2 more than Quake 1, but Quake 2 is pretty much if you had Doom 1's tech base, vary it up a little, and extend it the entire game. Without the music, which is what I had to deal with in a lot of my experience in playing the game for various reasons, it's really easy to just sum up the game as boring. But it isn't as boring as Quake 4, which is just flatout dull to play for me, especially with two turret sections near the beginning of the game that boil down to point and click.
Quake 1-style could allow for a lot of variety, especially with the excuse of slipgates for essentially creating whatever they want, but actually staying true to that gameplay style on consoles would probably lead to more concessions than DOOM got since it's easily second in mobility only to Quake 3. Quake 2 on the other hand works perfectly on consoles; I should know, what with playing it on the 360 via my Q4 bonus disc. And while Quake 3 got console ports back in the day, the hardcore fans would bitch incessantly about Id ruining everything if a new Quake game suffered from consolitis now.

With how long Doom '12 was in development hell, it'd be insanity to not reuse assets. Doom '16 would never make its budget back if it started from scratch if you count the money spent on "Doom 4".
Look at Overwatch, for example. Pretty much all of its assets are reused directly from the failed World of Starcraft ("Titan"), but gameplay wise, it's completely distinct from whatever MMO its assets were made for in the first place.

Quake 2 on 360? Meh.
...Try Quake 2...
On PS1.
(Bit of a mess and a miracle technically. It's a downport to the Quake 1 engine and is devoid of all the Id Tech 2.5 enhancements of Quake 2 on PC.)

I did, and N64. I have both copies in my room, and when I found out the PS3 can play PS1 discs last year, it was one of the first things I tried.
It, uh, really shows how standardization of controls really went a long way towards making things more enjoyable, because jesus christ.

From seeing footage of the '12 version yesterday, they definitely reused the super shotgun model, that's for sure.

Not gonna lie, that Doom12 footage actually looks like what I'd expect Doom 2's Earth portions to have been like had it been made in 2005 instead of 1995.

I feel like sci-fi space marine stuff has been done to death now so a new Quake with that setting would feel a little too generic. If they were to make a new Quake game, it should be more like Quake 1, with the weird lovecraftian horror stuff blending a bunch of different settings, cause that would be a much more interesting and unique setting now.

The only qualm I can see with a Quake 1 reboot is changing the level order to be coherent. The level themes kinda go all over the place which I can imagine them getting nailed on today.
