My only technical problem with Doom 4 is its hate for any game capture software on AMD cards.
Even Steam Broadcasting isn't working.
I'm playing Doom 2 concurrent with Quake, and the other day I played map 24, "The Chasm."

I was like, Hey this is neat. It's all wide-open and non-linear like a Marathon level. Then I proceeded to get lost for 20 minutes and couldn't find the exit. Oh, it is a Marathon level.

I like the concept of The Chasm, but the level itself is an absolute fucking disaster. The Chasm and The Pit are the two maps I always dread.

This level was where I stopped playing Doom 2. Doom 1 had much better level design imo
fuck the chasm
took me hours just to figure out where to go
and i kept falling off those narrow as fuck pathways because a lost soul was always on my ass
the last slime area near exit kinda sucks since there's no way to get back up, though you can avoid souls by rushing next to the teleporters and use them as a shield. souls can't move/charge through most teles.
be glad we got mouselook now :V
Man, I forgot how good the original Doom is. It's been about 6 years since I last played it.

I have this crank theory that the Marathon team secretly captured Sandy Petersen and forced him to design all the game's levels while high on angel dust.
Sounds really weird, I've had 0 crashes or problems with Doom 4 ever
Might be a driver problem. Wipe your drivers with DDU and install them fresh. Otherwise might be a gpu problem
Tried latest drivers and fresh installs for said drivers, even verify game cache incase I had fucked files. Same issue. I booted Doom 3 times. First two were fine until I went in game where FPS got locked to like 10fps. Third time it did it on the menus before even attempting to go ingame.
Memory leak? Fucked up VRam allocation perhaps from Doom itself?

Just throwing this out there, but do you have a pagefile, and is it set so that it can auto adjust the size of the pagefile? I found that a lot of "optimization guides" say to turn off the pagefile or limit the size of it and that causes way too many problems with games. Doom is VRAM hungry and my pagefile goes up to 5 gigs or so mid game sometimes

Odd thing was, it is absolutely random. I played for almost 8 hours yesterday straight. Not a single occurrence of this issue. I restarted the map to get more secrets etc, using exact same settings from last time, PC was in the same state in regards to background process's. And I was pretty much stuck to 10fps.
What I'm saying is, even if my page-file was getting eaten up, it makes no sense that I have to entirely restart the whole game and HOPE that it finally gives me a consistent FPS. Even putting all the graphics to ABSOLUTE minimum changed nothing, my first few hours was on medium settings, with a lot of the extras like AA x8 and lens flare and all that guff, whilst only using a 560TI, it run buttery smooth at 30-40fps. But have suddenly minimum settings changes ZERO in regards to the FPS I receive, you'd imagine to at-least gain a few FPS. But it doesn't it sits and stays at that FPS until the game is entirely restarted. I find this issue non nonsensical and infuriating all at the same time.
this game is fucking AWESOME

I know man, DOOM II RPG is a wild fucking ride.
One of the craziest games I've ever played.

To be honest, the game has a fair amount of random CTDs and bugs like this, but it's been 3 weeks and we've yet to even hear of a patch from the developers, which is super shitty for AAA Game Studios. Hell, on my first playthrough, I crashed like 2-4 times tops. On my second, I'm now crashing like once or twice every level. It's turning me insane.
There's no real fix here, no real solution. The only one that can help is if you have an ASUS motherboard, you have to disable Sony studio or something like that. The rest is pure theories and unconfirmed fixes.

The Chasm sucks when you're a 6 year old who hasn't yet developed the dexterity to balance oneself on those narrow walkways.
Vinesauce Vinny is streaming the Golden Souls ATM, he seems to love it
who doesn't
golden souls is great
I finished episode three of Quake. I loved it when the ogres started dropping down from above.
Oh, and I just finished Doom II. Screw pain elementals, they suck. It was fun in Doom 1 when you ran into a room full of lost souls. but PEs' spawn nonsense got really grating.
Is there any place where I can get a pack of some weird doom wads to waste my time on?
I can't seem to find myself in the doomworld website.

Go to /idgames and press the "random" button, and immerse yourself in true hell.
Jesus. this level design in new doom is fucking amazing. It overwhelmed me at first because I'm so used to games either being ultra linear, or a complete open world.
I almost never explore levels anymore either, but I can't leave a level in this game without hunting every corner I can for sweet sweet upgrades.
Probably, very very late on this, but someone pointed it out on Doom World
The Doom 2 ending:
THE HORRENDOUS VISAGE OF THE BIGGEST
DEMON YOU'VE EVER SEEN CRUMBLES BEFORE
YOU, AFTER YOU PUMP YOUR ROCKETS INTO
HIS EXPOSED BRAIN. THE MONSTER SHRIVELS
UP AND DIES, ITS THRASHING LIMBS
DEVASTATING UNTOLD MILES OF HELL'S
SURFACE.
And, what do you see at the beginning of 'Titan's Realm'?

According to Doom Wiki, the Lightning gun may have originally been made for single player
http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Lightning_Gun
The Lightning Gun was originally considered for Singleplayer (due to the mesh lacking the MP_ tag used for MP only weapons) and was called the "Arc Wielder"
Oh yeah, I finished the map, kinda. Now it's balance&polish-time.

Yeah, it definitely sets a recent precedent for linearity. There's still a definite area you need to go to, but there's tons of side areas to explore along the way. That way you get the best of both types, linear for focus and polish, open for exploration. I always wanted to explore, I don't think I ever played a level in it where I gave up and just tried to rush the level to completion.
A lot of people I know have been complaining about the "dubstep!11!!" music in the new Doom, but I honestly really like how the soundtrack changes between the UAC facility and Hell.

The only complaint I have is with that weird ping noise in the main menu music. It freaks me out every time.

was fun
i really like the theme
but a lot of the areas felt really tight and constrained, made the rocket launcher a literal pain to use
