Doomguy had too many beserker packs that morning before showing up for work.

Anyone catch the Star Wars Episode 4 reference in the end credits?
Anyone catch the Star Wars Episode 4 reference in the end credits?
Damn, what was it? I'm normally pretty good at catching this kind of stuff.
I know that the Beta's code had a line that went something like "Be patient young Padawan".

Is that a UT99-inspired HUD that I see there on the bottom?
So I finished new Doom earlier, and I never thought I would ever say this, but it's one of the best games I've played in a long while.
Literally the only problem with it is story, mainly [sp]how it kinda just ended after the final boss. I was hoping for some fucking insanely climactic end, but instead you just get left on a clifhangar where you get warped back to hell by some robot dickhead.
I hope that means they are planning to do a SP expansion, or even new Doom 2. I would be extremely happy with more SP levels in the same engine. 12 levels doesn't feel enough, and the little I've played of the snapmaps make me not even consider touching them again.[/sp]
The only problem I have with Doom4 is that it crashes constantly
The only problem I have with Doom is that fucking lighting bug on the gun models fuck you Marty Stratton how many years of development and you couldn't help but fuck this up and I know you're having a fucking laugh about this, sitting there drinking your herbal tea and eating lemon squares knowing that somewhere out there someone sees the lighting bug you didn't want to fix, knowing that they feel true agony, and it brings a smile to your face like nothing else could, and you start laughing thinking about how you'll never fix it and how this person will have to deal with knowing that this single bug exists in the game for the rest of their conceivable lives.
But other than that the game's been good, yeah.

I was hoping that the sarcasm/satire and ridiculousness of what I typed would transfer as well into text as it did in my mind but apparently it didn't.

4 reel dawg what chu on about???

I'm working on a patch wad I'm calling "Home Improvement" that cleans up some of Doom's less-than-glamorous levels, some in subtle ways, others in not-so-subtle ways, depending on how awful the level is. Is there anything in you guys would like to see done?
I'm not getting rid of any of the typical IWAD-isms, I'm mainly just fixing bugs, glaring design flaws and re-doing the most sloppily done areas.
So far I've done E1M4. Some of the changes include:
-Changed ceiling texture in the little starting room to brick instead of that awful gray ceiling lamp texture
-Evened out the lighting in that area and made it more of a room than a hallway
-Changed the ceiling of the "eastern" corridor leading to the computer room with the trap to brick so that it's consistent with the western one
-Slightly re-did the room with the lift and computers, got rid of the pointless switch and walkover linedefs to activate the lift
-Refined the architecture in the room with the imps and barrels, and un-fucked that ugly BROWNHUG staircase nearby
-Fixed the little HOM at the entrance to one of the high-up "window" corridors
-Changed the texture in the rocket launcher/soulsphere secret to marble instead of ash.
-Refined some of the heights and textures in the big circular hub area
-Fixed the textures and architecture in the big STARTAN room with the ledge and the trap activated by the lift
-Redid the weird balcony area with the blue door
-Turned the computer stack back into a swastika
-Made the exit room less cramped and re-texture the little exit alcove
-Darkened some parts of the maze a bit
-Moved the blue door to the entrance of the room with the funny-looking balcony
-Removed the yellow key entirely and made the door leading from the maze to the exit chamber locked on the chamber side.

Jesus, that link doesn't work either.
Here's a new one:

Been a while since i touched this
Found the A_SpawnDebris function so i used it to make genestealers pop like balloons like the original
Also made a 3d model and colored it in PS to turn it into a new Assault Cannon sprite

I'd actually love to play that with more complex levels. The assets look pretty good.
I really hope they make a singleplayer expansion that clarifies parts of the lore, because I find it really interesting.
[sp]Who were the Night Sentinels? Was Doomguy their leader or something? What did they do?
How long was Doomguy in Hell? Is this an alternate universe he got dumped into? Or just way in the future?
Who was the traitor that gave him the armor, and why does it seem so advanced, even though it was supposedly made in Hell?[/sp]
I don't know why but I find it funny that the cleaning droid from the Quakecon 2014 demo that got cut from the final game still made it into the credit sequence somehow.

obviously all things they'll answer in the sequel
I've been having a lot of fun with the new Doom multiplayer. Fast paced like quake with elements of halo thrown in.

I remember a bit ago I saw someone play brutal doom with the new sound track and it turned out pretty awesome. Anyone have a link to that video?
hold on what is this fireball the plasmagun shoots?
i thought it had the electric grenade and the heat shockwave
So, I wonder.
How does John Carmack feel about completely losing the game-engine market to Unreal and Unity? Any bets that the past 15 years of Id Tech's irrelevance is what drove him to quit and gamble his career on VR?
I mean, Id Tech 1, 2, and 3 were on top of the fucking world. Then with Id Tech 4 literally NOONE but Activision licensed it - And anyone who was still using Id Tech after that point had taken their ball and made their own damned version they wouldn't have to pay Id for anymore, like Source or whatever Activision calls the Call of Duty fork of Id Tech.
Like, what the hell happened anyway? The drop from Id Tech 3's relevancy to Id Tech 4's complete irrelevancy is probably one of the sharpest declines in adoption of tech ever
The mod launches an acid pool in multiplayer.

In Multiplayer it shoots this acid fireball thing instead. a lot of the alternate modes are different than single player
Out of morbid curiosity, has anyone encountered any Terry Traps in SnapMap yet?
[editline]9th June 2016[/editline]
Actually serious question:
I remember back in the day playing in a source-port version of Doom a multiplayer mod that was essentially a Doom-version of the Counter Strike Source/GO Zombie Escape/Survival mod, with at least 20 other people on the server. Anyone here happen to have played it and remember what it was, what source-port it used (It was likely Skulltag since its multiplayer focused, not completely sure though.), and if it's still active?
Eurogamer put the screws to Marty about the multiplayer and got some news about the future.
To sum it up:
- Certain Affinity are no longer working on the game. Id have taken over development, and the multiplayer DLC is their work.
- Private and custom matches will be coming in a free patch this summer.
- Certain developer features from the Alpha, like a match browser, are also coming once they've been given a bit more polish.
- Bots are coming to MP and Snapmap in the future - Id's "bot guy" is the lead coder on Snapmap, so he's kind of busy...
- More multi-centric features for Snapmap, whatever that means.
Still no word on Vulkan support?
Interesting wording.
Wonder if that means that Certain Affinity's sole job was to just get a working multiplayer up and running for launch, or if they were politely asked to leave when it was clear what they made was total garbage with legs too short to sell a season pass for?
I mean, Bethesda as a publisher so far doesn't churn out quick and dirty annual shit. Their history shows it's all about long term sales. And I think we all know that D16's multiplayer ain't going to be alive in a few months.
On an unrelated note, can anyone recommend some good Doom 1 and 2 remixes to play through with? I've been trying to find a good one that's not super heavy metal but not too MIDI either.
Super Heavy MIDI? :v:
I really want to know - Did ANYONE play that multiplayer for five minutes and decide "Yup, I'm going to buy the season pass for this."?
