Eurogamer put the screws to Marty about the multiplayer and got some news about the future. To sum it up: - Certain Affinity are no longer working on the game. Id have taken over development, and the multiplayer DLC is their work. - Private and custom matches will be coming in a free patch this summer. - Certain developer features from the Alpha, like a match browser, are also coming once they've been given a bit more polish. - Bots are coming to MP and Snapmap in the future - Id's "bot guy" is the lead coder on Snapmap, so he's kind of busy... - More multi-centric features for Snapmap, whatever that means.
I don't think that could have gone any better and I'm really looking forward to those changes. I surprisingly had a lot of fun with SP even though SP games normally get me uninterested after the first playthrough, and snapmap has been kinda lackluster and buggy but passable, proper (and balanced) MP is pretty much what the game needs to be solid in all aspects IMO.
- More multi-centric features for Snapmap, whatever that means.
I really hope that this in some way means that the player limit will be increased.
I hope it, coupled with the server browser, means snapmap maps can be played with regular maps.
Interesting wording. Wonder if that means that Certain Affinity's sole job was to just get a working multiplayer up and running for launch, or if they were politely asked to leave when it was clear what they made was total garbage with legs too short to sell a season pass for? I mean, Bethesda as a publisher so far doesn't churn out quick and dirty annual shit. Their history shows it's all about long term sales. And I think we all know that D16's multiplayer ain't going to be alive in a few months.
Probably a little of column A, a little of column B - they were probably contracted to do the release version, and the contract likely wasn't renewed for the DLC once the... enthusiastic response to the beta came out. Maybe. I'm no contract lawyer.
And I think we all know that D16's multiplayer ain't going to be alive in a few months.
At least it's not doing as bad as Battleborn at the moment. :v:
I wasn't expecting Id to drop certain affinity that quickly. I might actually start playing multiplayer again when the updates come.
I wasn't expecting Id to drop certain affinity that quickly. I might actually start playing multiplayer again when the updates come.
As they mentioned in article CA helped to ready up the mp for release. I guess ID was really busy with SP that time.
I really hope they make a singleplayer expansion that clarifies parts of the lore, because I find it really interesting. [sp]Who were the Night Sentinels? Was Doomguy their leader or something? What did they do? How long was Doomguy in Hell? Is this an alternate universe he got dumped into? Or just way in the future? Who was the traitor that gave him the armor, and why does it seem so advanced, even though it was supposedly made in Hell?[/sp]
Regardless of [sp]how long he was in there, it certainly did something to his personality. What with smashing things and doing disgusting stuff without second thoughts.[/sp]
Regardless of [sp]how long he was in there, it certainly did something to his personality. What with smashing things and doing disgusting stuff without second thoughts.[/sp]
if you've read the doom comic, you know that it did absolutely nothing
Regardless of [sp]how long he was in there, it certainly did something to his personality. What with smashing things and doing disgusting stuff without second thoughts.[/sp]
From the little we do know of him, his personality really hasn't changed at all. He's just a lot angrier this time around. Think about it: He originally got sent to Phobos for attacking a superior officer who ordered him to fire on innocent civilians. That was probably a pretty quick decision, but he did it because he was pissed with the higher-ups who had no regard for the greater good, and he didn't want anyone innocent getting killed. Now think about all the shit that the UAC put him through from DOOM 1 - DOOM 64. And the whole time, he made the choices that would benefit the greater good. Never what would benefit him, and almost never exactly what his superiors told him to do. By the time he wakes up in DOOM '16, he's probably absolutely fucking had it with the UAC, and isn't taking any shit from them this time around. This being shown through his absolute disregard for following Hayden's orders, and instead doing what he knows will help humanity in the long-run, rather than doing what will end up benefiting the UAC. And he's obviously still really concerned about things/people who are innocent, and he wants to do the right thing. I mean, he took the time to [sp]back up VEGA, the only person??/AI who was willing to genuinely help him, instead of bullshitting him, before being sent back into hell again.[/sp]
Id are great, free updates that alot of other devs would charge for.
I can't think of any devs that have charged for any of those features.
To have Private Matches in Battlefield you have to rent a Server.
That really isn't the same thing They don't have a feature called "Private Matches" If they charged you to hit a button called "Private Match" and loaded a server on your computer then yeah.
I hope people give the MP a second chance after id fixes it up, because it has so much potential to be fun. I'm afraid it's too far gone though.
I don't think it's going to help. Most people will probably be done with the game before all of that comes out. Games just don't last as long these days. I'm hoping Snapmap will hold out long enough to get the content updates.
Idk I'd really enjoy playing DOOM multiplayer with my friends. My friends that know I would punch them in the face If I catch them using the chain-gun. Nah im kidding, but Ive never been a fan of random competitive matchmaking, but I find DOOMs multiplayer really fun and would play it on and off for a long time if I could make custom games with just my mates.

co-oping the singleplayer campaign is all i want so we can have 6 angry, multicolored, heavily armed pingpong balls bouncing around on mars killing anything that moves. or doesn't i'm sure the chaingun spam would be magnificent to behold if everyone had the turret mod
I've actually really enjoyed DOOM's multiplayer so far. I don't understand why it keeps getting completely shit on. It's definitely lacking some things like the custom games, server browser, etc, that they're planning on adding, but I've still had a bunch of fun playing it.

It's not perfect, but most things aren't when they're first released. I still have a lot of fun playing it, and that's what counts in my opinion.
Modeled and edited a new bolter sprite because the one i ripped was ass [t]http://i.imgur.com/BHJhdHT.png[/t] became [t]http://i.imgur.com/DQ6Tn9C.png[/t]
I always found it funny how fatass the iron sight on bolters are.
is it just me or do you think doom '16 will eventually get mod tools near the end of it's life span? I mean looking at what ID doing to multiplayer now, after complaints of it being bland? Also doomguy's probably is pissed because the Terry wads are canon.
Modeled and edited a new bolter sprite because the one i ripped was ass [t]http://i.imgur.com/BHJhdHT.png[/t] became [t]http://i.imgur.com/DQ6Tn9C.png[/t]
How do you do things like this? I've often wanted to add stuff to my wads but I can't draw them. I figure making a model would be better but how do you make it fit so well into the game?
it's all in the shading which is something i would very much like to learn
Neat that you're making 3D models then transferring them as sprites. One of the smaller things I liked about classic DOOM was that a portion of the enemies and the player character were done using real-life models (some clay, other latex and metal).
How do you do things like this? I've often wanted to add stuff to my wads but I can't draw them. I figure making a model would be better but how do you make it fit so well into the game?
My process was to make the model, take some renders at the angles i wanted with ambient occlusion, and then drop em in photoshop. From there i give em solid colors, and then i go to town with the dodge and burn tool on edges for shadows and highlights. I used this as a reference for the lighting I painted (and the model itself too)
Today I learned the door + switch in [sp]Argent Facility (destroyed)[/sp] is not missable. A lot of people think that it is, but there are a few tricky jumps you can do to get back. Has anyone else found this?
Actually serious question: I remember back in the day playing in a source-port version of Doom a multiplayer mod that was essentially a Doom-version of the Counter Strike Source/GO Zombie Escape/Survival mod, with at least 20 other people on the server. Anyone here happen to have played it and remember what it was, what source-port it used (It was likely Skulltag since its multiplayer focused, not completely sure though.), and if it's still active?
It's called Zombie Horde, on Zandronum. No idea if it's still played, but I'd assume yes, since it was massively popular a year or two ago still.
The last time I played MP, it took me forever to find a match, and I also met same 3 people for the past 3 days. Highest players in 1 session? 6
