Quoting this from the thread for the trailer:
You may not need to worry about loadouts.
quake live doesn't even have loadouts any more
I'll be frank and say Doom's original gameplay trailer was fucking awful, and made Hell look like one of the least interesting areas I had ever seen in a video game.
quake live doesn't even have loadouts any more
AFAIK the "loadout" was a weapon you started with alongside the machinegun and gauntlet. When the game became paid they let anyone start classic servers so basically it's the only gamemode. I still find the occasional loadout-style server.
So the Serious Sam announcement was just Serious Sam VR. I am very sad.

Sure, but they implied it would be at E3 and got us all excited. Now we're back to square one, where we still have no idea what it even looks like.

They teased something Serious showing up they never specifically said SS4.
I got some more stuff done! (Mind the orange tint, had f.lux on)

-New simple physics handling for either AI or items; Uses built in physics engine because it's better than if I were to write something similar in script.
-Baseball Bat titled BBB, which stands for Big, Bad, and Ballsy. You can side-swipe enemies and knock them around, or you can do this epic uppercut that fucking wrecks their shit.
-Screen shake because yes
I'm thinking maybe a first-person shooter with brawler style physics and destructible objects to body slam them into. Maybe a room with explosive barrels in the back, and skilled players could uppercut a dude and then knock him away into it, causing it to explode violently before other enemies have time to run away? I don't know yet, but this is super exciting!

I figured out how to get the AI to drop down from any ledge which means spawning them just became a lot more versatile
Also shown is semi functioning WIP friendly AI

Emphasis on "implied". There's no way they didn't know what they were doing when they teased a new "serious" game from Croteam on twitter.
For those flustered over Saber Interactive's role in Quake Champions development, please note that their role in the Halo series was basically just building art assets for the anniversary editions of the first two Halo games.
As opposed to Creative Assembly, who built Doom's multiplayer and started as an offshoot of Bungie, initially creating (some very good) maps before assisting 343i with Halo multiplayer.
So I'm really thinking Saber is just there to build assets for Id.

ID would be really fucking dumb to outsource again, after they had to take back Doom's multiplayer after it was trashed
Saw the description for Quake Champions
Would you guys recommend I pick up Quake 3 on Steam?
I've got a hankering for some arena FPS now, and as someone who's [sp]only played Quake Live[/sp], I'm a bit curious.
Also I'm apparently never allowed to play Quake Live again thanks to Steam.
I'm just worried that Quake 3 will be too dead to get much gameplay out of it..
I recommend picking up from GOG. The Quake 3 Gold Edition. Which includes Quake 3 + Team Arena, all for one price that is the same as Steam if no sale is going on. In fact since Summer Sale is still on at GOG and it has a 75% discount. Ya ain't missing much compared to Steam version, cept for the price and content.
I recommend doing this:
Quake 3 Arena + Team Arena from GOG
Quake Live from Steam
You will save some money doing this.
My fps has been fluctuating randonly on all games (all games) I captured an example on doom top right corner (30fps-50fps, the screenshot happened to be on the low side). You are experiencing the same issues I had with Doom. Your CPU isn't powerful enough to make up for AMD's shitty OpenGL drivers. You and me basically need that new i7 10-core CPU in order to brute force through the CPU calls. Your only choices right now are to refund, wait for Vulcan to drop, or go buy an nVidia card. I chose to refund until the trainwreck is fixed.
Just finished playing the demo and I must say the new Doom is more than I expected, even though it is just the first level and people say it doesn't present the game well.
You press TAB and what do you get... an almost perfect Serious Sam NETRICSA that I have been waiting for since The Second Encounter, with info about enemies, weapons, environments, tutorials, lore, map, etc. Doom 3 also had a PDA/NETRICSA, but they expanded on it completely, they didn't dumb it down. Take notes Croteam, take notes, this is how you do it.
There are only 3 basic enemies in the demo, but there is some good stuff about them too. The basic possessed/zombie still goes on after shooting off his hands. How great is that ? The movement of enemies is great, they climb up, jump down and just watching an imp is fascinating to me. It is not the same attack animation over and over, it really feels alive, with many different ways it attacks. Do note I have not played any new game, so I am not completely aware how far the games have progressed in that part.
The gory/melee attack are great. They are not just a gimmick with no purpose like in SS3. When you are low on health and ammo, it literally forces you to fight for your survival with your bare hands to get your ammo and health back. And you can't do it always, you need to weaken the enemies before the kill.
The story got me intrigued. There is so little story in this first level, but it makes you ask so many questions, just how I like it. I was afraid I wouldn't like it, because I am a bigger fan of a more story focused Doom 3 than the original games, but if the rest of the game is like this I think it is a great blend of classic Doom and what I liked about Doom3; ton of enemies to shoot, but with occasional PDAs, artifacts and logs to read in a safe corner when you need a break.
I just wish we would've gotten a new Lovecraft inspired Quake with single player. Quake is more than just it's multiplayer, especially the first game.
I've just unlocked the Lightning Gun and Wallhack Tracking Device in Multiplayer. What was frustration has now turned into depression. This is fucking stupid. With this Tesla Cannon that i'm using it is literally impossible to die in a 1v1 if you get armor, or the enemy doesn't have a power up (read: 99.9% of gunfights). And even in 2v1s if your targets don't have armor you can almost always kill them instantly as they have no idea WTF is going on. I honestly don't know why i've stuck around for so long. Maybe I can play Mary Sue dressup later on when I unlock all the paints. Then I can have my OC who is a demon from hell who dresses in hot neon pink and wants to fuck everything.
I mean, seriously. The customization options are great, but holy shit the edgy OCs you find playing. Here I am using a solid white combat suit that is incredibly scratched up, with the lights not working, then you have a half-demon half human fuck-o-pede wearing a neon light who dumped three shades of blood red all over him, with said neon light being an obnoxious hot pink.

You really gonna complain about edgy designs in a DOOM game?
And what the fuck is with you and OCs?
What's an OC?

To be fair, It's all locked behind RNG, they are probably just trying to make the most distinctive design possible with what bits and pieces they actually have unlocked.
For example this Is my multiplayer guy

And this Is my snap map guy that I made with more control over what colours and parts I wanted to use (although Ironically I prefer the helm used in the first picture but can't figure out how to unlock the sodding thing in snapmap).
What's an OC?
"Original Character" as in a character someone made up in an existing universe, which defeats the meaning of original.
i mean it is called quake champions and not quake 5 so there's that
I hope when they mentioned new armor cosmetics for DOOM one of those will be the classic helmet model that was in the files.
I'd really like that in snapmap, there's a serious lack of visor helmets, and the only one isn't my favorite.
Contacted a guy who had his own modified version of DOOMERO's motion tracker from the aliens mod and he helped me adapt it

Classic helmet? I'm assuming that this isn't the easter egg of the doomguy's face in the helmet gib?

I'm late, but there's a difference between something just looking stupid and something looking fitting. The "edgy" appearance of the Demons in DOOM's singleplayer make sense. They're supposed to be literal beings from hell. But they aren't drenched in twenty different colors of paint. They stick to a certain theme of color. You don't see a purple and yellow demon sparkled in glitter holding a black and gold shotgun. Prehaps "edgy" is the wrong word. I'll go off back into obscurity and prehaps not speak until I stop dicking out and can think. :V
E: To the person who mentioned making a distinctive design, yours at least makes sense. It's two bright colors mixed together that actually look decent. The stuff i'm talking about is things that just don't make sense. A Demon with green eyes, yellow skin with metallic red trim with specs of black paint thrown on him that almost seem to deliberately look stupid and non-nonsensical are what i'm referring to.
who gives a shit, multiplayer is where people want to brag about their e-peen and pink dildo templar space marines, it's not like coherent design is usually going to be a factor with customization unless you make it all look boring or limit it significantly
People in multiplayer games where you can customize your look then to make themselves look as obnoxious and gaudy as possible for whatever reason.
i mean it is called quake champions and not quake 5 so there's that
The new Doom wasn't called Doom 4 either.
