Spoilers on the Quake episode:

[sp] Golden rule of Quake: Always enter slipgates from the back first. [/sp]
[sp] Also, the episode ends just like most recent Id games. Abruptly, without even a text screen popping up [/sp]
I played the 2016 DOOM demo and loved it, and I've been thinking about getting W: TNO since it's only $10. If I liked DOOM 2016, will I like TNO?
TNO is real good. It's also really long but it never gets dull really. It's like you think "okay cool this has to be the end, oh shit nevermind some crazy shit just went down." It keeps doing that till the actual end and it's great.
The old blood is not so good though.
I think ToB was great. the new rifle you get is really fun to use and it's fun to see the supernatural stuff come back.
ToB was great but the constant shift in pacing kind of ruined my suspension of disbelief.
Like, you go from James Bond to RTCW-tier shootybangs, to forced stealth sections, to a more Wolf3D-inspired setup, to backtracking the James Bond part, to [sp]the most random ass infiltration in the middle of a high profile breakout to fucking PARACHUTING OLD GERMAN ZOMBIE NAZIS to The Great Mighty Poo[/sp] . TNO felt way more consistent with the way it was pushing towards the climax and the undoing of BJ's initial failure.
With that being said though, I did like the way ToB BJ acted. He still had the existential crisis monologues, but the ridiculously hammy Captain America-tier interaction with other characters and the environment made up for it.
You could say it's like Return to Castle Wolfenstein in that sense then, except heavily compressed. That game practically switched the mood and setup every other mission, including mandatory no-alerts stealth sequences towards the middle/later parts.
Doesn't it overwrite RTCW's place in the canon?
Doesn't it overwrite RTCW's place in the canon?
B.J. references the X-labs from RTCW right at the start of Old Blood, so no.
RtCW introduced Deathshead to the series as well, which Wolf '09 didn't really contradict. The New Order / The Old Blood are.. weird about their canon, acknowledging the previous games but damn well trying to do their own thing rather than be the old games, or at least TNO does that. TOB seemed like they wanted to let loose a little and do what they could with more familiar series elements.
Wolfenstein canon is all sorts of messed up, 09 kinda happened, RTCW is replaced.
RTCW and '09 kind of happened, or at least the basic plot did. Caroline is a character from '09, so that definitely happened, and Deathshead was in RTCW, so at least the basic plot happened there.
Really, the only games that are left out are Wolf3D and Spear of Destiny. RTCW is kind of a remake of 3D anyways, so whatever. BJ going after Hitler is implied in one of the newspapers in TNO, though, so maybe MachineGames just picked little details they liked from the original games.
I honestly thing ToB is much better than TNO. It's a tighter, more focused game with better pacing and no godawful fake stealth sections. It does have that frustrating stealth section in the beginning, but that's the only real low point in my opinion.
I was fairly sure that all the Wolfenstein games are Canon, actually.
in Wolf 3D, BJ kills Hitler, allowing Deathshead to take power, who he tries and fails to kill in RTCW and '09, finally ending with the nazis winning, leading into TNO.

TNO has some newspaper articles about how Hitler is still alive and well.

But he seemed to be cold, and distant. As if either reanimated or having undergone something to prevent aging.
Are there any good source ports for Quake that have mouse support for menus? It's the main problem I have with Darkplaces.
Minor update on the MachineGames thing: While it was released under the MachineGames twitter account and is hosted by Bethesda, it was apparently produced solely by one guy - MachineGames co-founder Jerk Gustafsson (pronounced Yurk), who made some other maps back in the day before joining Starbreeze - as a personal project. So now you know who to swear at when you run into a horde of monsters. :v:
Certainly hasn't skipped a beat, even after years of not really having made levels since The Darkness. Bit hard, mind!

Now that is impressive. Coolest jerk I've seen so far.
God, I can't wait for QuakeCon. Although New Colossus is probably gonna cost me an arm and a leg, considering the current state of the pound sterling... Before the year is out, I'll probably know how it feels to be Australia when it comes to buying games.
I bought the new Doom since it was in sale. Already tried the demo to make sure it works with my pc. Pretty hyped.
Well, you're not gonna be disappointed. It's pretty damn good.
TNO has some newspaper articles about how Hitler is still alive and well.
Propaganda or something. He was mentioned as cold and distant, so maybe a body double, someone they have that looks like Hitler, they don't let him do anything because it would be obvious he isn't Hitler.
Propaganda.
There are actually theories that say that the Fuhrer is indeed Hitler, but he was also killed by Blasko in the first games, meaning that Hitler is a reanimated corpse. Articles say that during interviews, the Fuhrer was very distant and looked almost lifeless.
The newspaper article actually says he's clammy to the touch when shaking his hand and he smells awful. The implication seems to be that he might be reanimated or something.
Well, here's hoping we at least catch a glimpse of Zombie Hitler in The New Colossus.

Ah I forgot that part.

[sp]Implying The New Colossus isn't a gritty Commander Keen reboot by MachineGames.[/sp]
There's no doubt that it's a Wolfenstein game, as "The New Colossus" is an actual poem by Emma Lazarus, mounted on the inside of a plaque inside the Statue of Liberty.
Parts of it are also referenced by BJ in the closing scene:
[sp]"A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles."
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,"[/sp]

New Colossus is gonna be the game that ties Wolf and DOOM together.

It would simultaneously be the worst and best thing ever.
I want BJ and Doom Guy in the new Quake.
[editline]25th June 2016[/editline]
Huh, I didn't know Funko actually made some of the Doom Guy variants found in game. They appear to be retailer exclusive, because I don't see them on their website, all they have is normal Doom Guy, these are the ones I saw on EB Games Canada
