I've been trying to clean up my games backlog lately- I just beat Doom and Quake. Is it wierd that I enjoyed Quake a lot more than Doom? It seems to be the minority opinion.

I'm personally a Doomer but I can definitely see why some people prefer Quake.
Is there like a super obvious graphics menu I'm missing in SS3 or are there just no options besides 'performance'
Serious Sam 3? If so, you go to Performance, click on the options and select customize.
Oh, I am dumb
It's too much of an eyesore in my opinion, and everything looks like it's covered in piss.
I've been trying to clean up my games backlog lately- I just beat Doom and Quake. Is it wierd that I enjoyed Quake a lot more than Doom? There was something there, but I don't think it was used to its full potential. Only one boss until the end, what is that? The medieval aesthetic kind of clashed with me. I also love the word "Slipgate". [editline]26th June 2016[/editline] Also, right now I'm building a prefab for a classic "Doom-Like" character controller in Unity. If anybody is interested I'll share a download when its finished. I'm gonna consider this my first true Unity project.
Why the -fuck- are there so many hitscan enemies in SS3? It makes the game a chore
Why the -fuck- are there so many hitscan enemies in SS3? It makes the game a chore
Starting from the fifth level there's hardly any of them anymore.
Starting from the fifth level there's hardly any of them anymore.
Unfortunately, they also introduce the witch brides, possibly the worst enemies in the game. Serious Sam 3 is quite a mixed bag.
Are those things anything like the Harpies?
So since I'll never be able to play my dream game of a modern day Hell On Earth adaptation, any WAD suggestions that have that scenario? I've played Hellbound, Vile Flesh, Hadephobia, Flashback to Hell, Doom 2 The Way id Did, the Hell On Earth Starterpack, and Doom II Reloaded.
the harpies are in the game, these are just basically annoying as shits for absolutely no reason if you cant find them in the arena soon enough, theyll start taking away your movement controls and spazz you by levitating you in midair while draining your health like crazy its the kinda mechanic that can only work in co-op because theres someone to save you, ive no idea why its in singleplayer
You're talking about the wrong enemy here, Witch Brides as someone already said.
Looks great. Though that logo could use a redesign.
Yeah... I had to stop playing SS3, even the arena segments that basically made the old games aren't nearly as cohesive or well made. It also doesn't help that the levels feel like they were designed by someone making a generic Unity Engine shooter, or have the layout of a map I made in the Crysis editor a decade ago. Some of the early city levels have such atrocious layouts with hundreds of hitscan enemies.
Looks great. Though that logo could use a redesign.
I'm not a fan of some of the animations, especially the super shotgun. It looks really akward
Why the -fuck- are there so many hitscan enemies in SS3? It makes the game a chore
I use this mod to make SS3 more tolerable. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=102893419
no i wasnt i was talking about the witch brides
This sounds like you're saying that about Harpies though.
the harpies are in the game, these are just basically annoying as shits for absolutely no reason if you cant find them in the arena soon enough, theyll start taking away your movement controls and spazz you by levitating you in midair while draining your health like crazy
Is there a Chocolate Doom equivalent for Quake?
Is there a Chocolate Doom equivalent for Quake?
Just run quake as is, pretty much runs fine on any modern hardware last time I tried. [editline]28th June 2016[/editline] Shitty polygon gameplay notwithstanding, it looks neat.
Just run quake as is, pretty much runs fine on any modern hardware last time I tried.
I'd strongly advise against this, especially against GLQuake as it has numerous issues in its coding that overall downgrade the experience. If you're just looking for standard Quake without fancy effects and with a simple options menu (unlike Darkplaces), use Quakespasm. It keeps the looks and feel of the game as close as possible to the original, and it's also still being supported by the developers, unlike Fitzquake, which Quakespasm is based on. You can also play the CD music straight out of a folder instead of having to mount a CD image, and many mods, including the recent Arcane Dimensions, are designed to be played with this port. It's the best of both worlds in terms of original and modern features, and you're really just doing yourself a disservice by using WinQuake or GLQuake over it, since they don't offer anything Quakespasm doesn't have.

The keypads and circuit panels being within the gameworld than a pop up interface also bugs me too. I miss the techno music, and while I'll accept a new soundtrack, I'd appreciate it still feeling like music rather than just tense background strings. The text popup for every interaction felt so unnecessary, no shit I just opened a door. And where are my audio logs? I know it's a demo but at least the implication would be nice. It's just a demo yes I know, but some things really kinda irked me. I really like the faithful designs everything has, and while the graphics aren't groundbreaking it still looks good. Hopefully we'll get some mod tools, even if it's just level creation.
The pipe combat is literally like SS2 or Half-Life, you wait for them to claw and then you wack em to death. The player is just well, not very good imo.
Not feeling that awkward pipe swinging animation.
Especially the stiff :weeb: part.
