AFAIK it was a image of a plastic toy shotgun.
oh i didn't mean literally, i mean that it was simple and generic enough that as long as there are sights a lot of weapons could be similar looking from the center
How they made Doom's weapon sprites is nothing short of genius

It's surprising how sprite art-y a lot of the monsters and weapons in the game look considering a lot of things were digitized and then reworked. Gives it a much more timeless feel compared to contemporaries of the time like Mortal Kombat doing a similar process.
Well, besides certain things like the Cyberdemon, it's real easy to see the clay model origins on him.
Looking forward to seeing all the guns centred.
I wanted to say BFG but then I thought of the Gauss Cannon and then the Super Shotgun and blah blah.

Oops this is probably gonna end up as megawad anyway.
The fact that they're actually getting whole new animations for centering surprised me, really. I'm used to FPS games that give the option to simply reorient where the viewmodel is on your screen, but they're genuinely giving these a full work around it seems.
It does seem like a rather 90's thing, taking objects and making 2D renders of them. Doom did it with random bits and bobs, along with clay models, while stuff like Donkey Kong Country did it by making sprites out of 3D models.
There really is something quite magical about it, isn't there?
anyone got a video of all the new weapon animations or is it not out yet?
The hell?
DOOM just had a 0mb update.
Got so excited for the centered weapons. Damn.
I have SS2 on steam and I was wondering if there's anything I should know before I play it. Any mods or unofficial patches that are required to make it run on modern computers or things like that.
I abused that infinite ammo rune and killed him in a couple minutes, since I dodged all his attacks and never lost armor.
this rune is completely OP
ran through the last part of the game, piss easy on Nightmare, only died by falling off the cliff edges.
is it also just me or is the plasma rifle pretty shit from the get-go? Not once did I actively choose it as a go-to weapon.

Croteam already patched it to make it run well on modern machines.

If you mean System Shock 2 it should run ok out of the gate. It's recommended to play it vanilla first.
did anyone else just get a small update on doom 4?

This is gonna sound kinda weird, but System Shock 2 on the Steam Controller with the official config is a dream to play.

Serious Sam 3 overall is pretty underrated if you ask me. I don't think it's nearly as bad as people make it out to be. The first few levels are meh at worst, but after you leave the city it's seriously a good game.
If you mean System Shock 2 it should run ok out of the gate. It's recommended to play it vanilla first.
Yeah, sorry, I guess I should have clarified since Serious Sam is talked about here too.
We have too many games with the SS acronym
To be honest that looks more satisfying an animation than the vanilla setup. I'll definitely give it a try when it comes out tomorrow.
Yeah, it's nice to see a full pump. It makes more sense to just pump quickly underneath, but an exaggerated Doom style pump is always great to watch.
We have too many games with the SS acronym
That reminds me of when I briefly got excited because I heard someone in the Vinesauce thread saying something about Joel playing Undertale and I mistook the acronym they used for that for Unreal Tournament.
genocidal run through Unreal Tournament sounds pretty standard

I did it pacifist.
TerminX provided an update on his troubles with Gearbox:
OK, here's the deal. Our license to Duke Nukem 3D is invalid. It's not the fault of the current owners of 3D Realms, and, as it turns out, certainly not the fault of Gearbox. This leaves me completely up shit creek. BUT, even after the public feuding, Gearbox has found something for me to do and they are going to be helping me out, as is 3DR.
As far as Hail to the King Collection goes, there's not much more I can say other than that it's on hold at 90-something% completion. Gearbox isn't currently interested in the product and they aren't obligated to be. At this point, I'm just glad they're willing to work with me again. I'm going to do my best to change their minds on it as I believe the market for such a product is much larger than they think it is, but for now it is what it is. I may just do a "soft" launch of the base port itself for a $1.99 price tag where you provide your own GRP.
So, to summarize:
- Gearbox isn't evil and Randy isn't a huge asshole.
- The current owner of 3DR is a great guy.
- I got completely shanghaied, but things will be alright.
Also, here, you guys might like this... it's the version of Grabbag I commissioned our very own Brandon Blume to produce, under my direction. I think he did a great job. The bass is pretty heavy as it was intended for phone speakers and cheap headphones, but I like it regardless. Enjoy.

Well that's reassuring.
I still wonder how that new episode will turn out though.
Pacifist run, Doom 2 - Tower of Babal on Nightmare, go
plugging myself here too because it's my first ever released project of anything ever
So, Duke 3D: Bazinga Edition is still happening at an indefinite date, right?
Lord I dread that. Just from how he described how Duke's VA just sounded dead inside on all of his lines, how flat every joke fell, and how lazy the new sprites looked.
Is there a release time for the patch?
