I was hoping that the new Quake would be like the new Wolfenstein or Doom. How cool would it have been to have a single player campaign where you fight against eldritch abominations while upgrading yourself using forbidden knowledge?
That's what I was hoping for. That's what most of us were hoping for, I think. But hey, my diet's relatively balanced, so I'm not super-salty about it being multiplayer only. Besides, having one active per "champion" means that you're still relying on the game's guns and your general skill, unlike games like Overwatch, Battleborn, Lawbreakers and so-on, where you have 2 or 3 that make you more of a "spellslinger" than a full-on shooty space marine.
In addition, most of the active abilities described seem to revolve around mobility in some way. Big Guy has Bull Rush, basically a charge. Ranger has the Dire Orb, that's a teleport that can telefrag opponents if used right. Blue Girl (forgot her name) has that phasewalk thingy, that's an escape if I ever saw one. And the guy with the visor... Well, he's the odd one out at the moment. I won't deny that the wallhack ability isn't really kosher, but he's the only guy I can see having a bona-fide problem with.
So far none of them seem to have anything as bonkers as an emergency health kit or a Quad-Damage-In-A-Bottle. Wallhacks as an ability, yeah that's a little out of order and could make for some brutal hunter/sniper style players, but they'll probably tool that accordingly/nerf it into the ground like a sword in Ultima Online. Having it be more like a sonar-style pulse that only shows players for half a second or so would probably be a little more balanced, so that you know where they were at that moment, but you'd have to rely on your intuition and personal skill to make the most of it.
Again, I recommend the calming of people's tits, and the waiting for gameplay before completely pissing all over this.
I feel like Visor should be more like that eagle eye perk from blops3 where it causes the enemy players to leave tracks that you can follow as opposed to just being a straight up wallhack
That could also work. Geared less towards snipers, more towards hunters.
And hey, if they don't rework Visor to have that as his active, they could probably give that kind of "Tracker" ability to a new champion. Maybe give it to Hunter, that lady with the skull-headdress and the 5th Element style "bandage dress". Though I imagine THAT particular character would go under a bit of a redesign nowadays, maybe with a more "concealing" costume if you catch my drift. Though not so much that she's unrecognisable below the neckline.

Yeah, you can imagine. Sir Mix-A-Lot would have a field day writing songs about her. But hey, she'd probably be right for a Tracking ability.
I never found that thing interesting to me, I much prefer old sprite games to have sprites.
The polymer lighting or whatever in the HRP is pretty cool though
I'd still argue there's nothing to rule out a classic mode for Quake Champions. It could even be a server option.
They already stated all the classic gamemodes are in like CTF and such and that there's also a mode directed more at e-sports players.

Now if only Andrew is kind enough to make Doom 2 soundtrack too.
Almost every track of the Doom soundtrack consists of some really memorable melodies, even the ones that are much closer to Metal than Orchestral music.
That's what I kind of miss from Doom 4's soundtrack. Because even though they fit the mood of the game really well and pump you up for battle, the tracks themselves don't really stick with you like the originals did.
Andrew Hulshult's remixes demonstrate that you can make modern versions of these same songs while keeping the melodies, the beat, the tempo etc. fully intact. And I absolutely love it.
Some of Andrew Hulshult's songs sound like distorted lawnmowers, and I love them

It's kind of why I wish that Doom 4 did have mod support, mostly so Andrew's music could be put into the game.
games these days just love their dynamic music fading
which leaves the player hearing snippets of them mashed together
really doesn't do the music justice

Got most of Foundry done now. Just monster placement and little things like that remain... Hitting 20k total sidedefs.
Man, FUCK E4M1.
They should put the Doomguy in the new Quake, like Q3A did.

Yeah and he should have this as an ability

But probably he will just have berserk

Pretty sure they may do that as a pre-order or bonus if you own Doom and Quake Champions.
I think his special ability should be Beserk, it would make any kills with the Gauntlet instakill, seems pretty balanced as long as it doesn't fills the HP meter to 100 when activated.

Why of course! How could we forget that delightful doctor's appointment in Quake 4? The attending GP was such a charmer when he took Kane's blood pressure, cracking a joke about the occasional smoke.

Majority of them are rated M though

Well, it wouldn't be Quad-Damage-In-A-Bottle OP, since you'd have to be in melee range to dish out the pain. And like I said earlier, 3 out of the 4 announced champions have mobility-focused abilities, so you'd probably need to get them unawares to guarantee a Berserk kill on them.
So yeah, probably balanced depending on how long it lasts.

This means depictions of obscene content like blood, boobies, and bad language are right out of the picture.
They even removed Sarge's iconic and beloved cigar in Quake Live so as not to promote harmful drug use to impressionable youths.

I, for one, am glad id Software is finally taking a stand against this immoral filth and sanitizing their video games for the betterment of mankind.

Seriously, these aren't memorable to you?
I hate to be that guy, but if Quake Champions is gonna be rated T, and have characters just fizzle out instead of exploding into giblets, it's a no-buy.
Although, I don't see this happening, as the trailer already had some blood in it, and it seems like they're a bit bolder with gore now, after seeing the stuff they put in DOOM.

It hasn't received an ESRB rating yet.
If Doom got to be ultra violent there's nothing to stop them from doing the same with this.

T makes sense if they want it to become an e-sport. M makes sense if they actually want to do the franchise justice.

T also makes sense for free-to-play seeing as anyone could play Quake Live (before its update anyway; after that it's just laziness). Nothing seems to say Champions will be F2P, so it can do what it wants.
Mature vs Teen stuff always seemed dumb to me. The average person doesn't pay attention to it anyway, and Teen tends to run more ages 10 and up, where as M would be 12-13 and up given how people just play whatever anyway.
Seriously, these aren't memorable to you?
Not at all. And the only reason I remember Titan's Realm is because it's the one with the choir sections.
Nothing seems to say Champions will be F2P
I dunno about that, my man. The track record is looking pretty grim in that regard. After all, Quake has been a full time F2P franchise for about a decade now. It all began 10 years ago when they took Quake 3 Arena and turned it into a F2P title. And after that, they took Quake Wars and turned it into a F2P title.

In fact, it's hard to remember a time when Quake wasn't a F2P franchise!

skyrim was m
