Half-life 2 Cut Content - Is it me or dose the cut content look better than what we got?
The npc itself was designed to be fixed, since you define in Hammer a levitation zone, and the points where the props will be carried, although it could be possible to make a mobile one (like the unseen npc_combine_advisor_roaming).
I also thought to try make a shield, since their unused particles still there, but I didn't at the end (I could try, I want to attempt at least).
There is another feature that I didn't showed at the video and the Advisor has, is called WrenchInmediate or something like that, and it would be like pushing directly a selected prop to the player, without picking up first. However, regarless of my attempts to fix it, it continues being broken. As soon as you send the input, it will break the physics of the game (props will not collide with anything, will go even outside of the map) and shortly after that, it will crash the game.
If the advisor has so much code to handle props, how easy would it be to recycle some of that code for a sort of Gravity Gun wielding AI?
Pardon me for asking so many questions on this thread, but where is Team GabeN today?

Absorbed into Missing Information or moved on to other things

you got the wrong thread
Seeing Black Mesa is getting some stuff and some revamp i would like to see the HL AI implemented in there, i mean holy shit the roaches has some interesting AI, better than some AI we see in the games today. In case you are wondering what i'm talking about

And? Since the guy posted in here i wanted to point out anyway. If you want to talk about the cut content then let's talk: take a look on the videos, some videos show some cut features on retail of the original game. About HL 2, from what i know, the only cut AI i know is the NPCs being able to use the GL on the SMG. Yet i still believe the AI on HL2 has some interesting stuff to be discovered i think, retail or cut.

Absolutely. I personally found the AI in HL fascinating back in the day.

whoops
Happy new year to everyone on facepunch
Happy new year from the midwest

Still one of the most fascinating AIs today, the only game i can think to have some very interesting AI on the latest games is GTA V, RDR and that's it

And much more, for example remember that the hability of toggling the RPG laser was cut due the smartest betatesters of Valve.

And cleanest and easiest to follow. Well commented, I'm not surprised HL spawned a lot of mods, in comparison with the mess of HL2 code.
Did you know that HL2 beta had water physics???
Ok not really but Valve was apparently playing with basic liquid physics back in 2001 in the form of leaking pipes and water towers and such.
Years ago there was a short clip on youtube showing this basic effect in the leak. After a while, I lost this video (I assume it was taken off of youtube) and I haven't been able to find any references to the effect since. Until yesterday...

I stumbled across this image of the effect from a member of hl2-beta.ru and its filename references a map in the WC Mappack located in the lars folder and called testroom_leak. I compiled the map and it seems as though the code works just fine. I went digging around in the code to see how it works and decided to try to port it to retail. It's a pain since valve changed the way that they render particles from leak to retail, so I can't get it working yet. Anyway, don't know how many of you knew about this but I thought I'd share.
Here's the map COMPILED FOR THE LEAK if you want to see it yourself: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u9rkj4lk73tm6w5/testroom_leak.bsp?dl=0
Looks like there was more leaks than we previously thought.
[sp]sorry[/sp]
How revolutionary will this be if it worked?
Not very
It only looks as good as Postal 2's piss physics.
How revolutionary will this be if it worked?
It already does work, and it's not revolutionary at all. Stuff like this has been in games for a while, it's just cool that Valve was experimenting with it in 2001 and that we have access to it.
EDIT:
Also of note is that the particles make splashy noises when they hit things, they bounce off of things, they leave wet decals, they are variable in size, strength, color, intensity etc, they don't appear at angles that don't make sense(ie. if you shoot the top of the barrel, water won't come leaking out), and interestingly they are conrolled via vmt files and commands.
In csgo if you shoot the barrels water will spew out of them, only without all the cool stuff.
Super-tiny question however, has the Missing Information mod let alone the other HL2 Beta mods officially died yet? I can't imagine continued work considering porting Source mods to SDK 2013 is a bit tough work.
Terminus is riding on 2013, I also believe Cvoxulary before he went off the radar was working on a 2013 port of DI

It's actually not that tough, just time consuming and I don't think MI is dead by a long shot. I think they have ups and downs just like most leak/beta mods.

Yeah, what happened to him? He just up and disappeared. I've seen him on steam a few times but not much more than that.
water leak stuff
We messed a bit around with this in GabeN.

I believe there's crash bug occurring with this but I can't remember the circumstances. It doesn't collide with other models so its rather unimpressive.
The system in CSGO uses the new particle system, and that's certainly doable with the SDK as well.
EDIT: I forgot we don't allow hotlinking LOL
That reminds me that i saw on Source the entity func_water (the one from HL1), just disabled. Maybe they tried to get work (probably due the wave stuff) and then they forgot about it and left the code disabled.
I wonder if I could do something with it. Right now if you use it, it will behave like any other brush entity with the water texture.

You most likely can. However its not used because reflections are static in Source, so you'd have really dull HL1-looking water effects. There are a lot of other things that make it not feasible.
leak
Crashes when i shoot the tanks
because the beta was cooler and retail is soooo laaaame!
Imagine if we got the Half life 2 beta as the full game and the game we have today as the "beta"
we would've wanted that more as we want the beta version today obviously.
Bad English I know.
Those leak effects could have made things hilarious & laggy on the Borealis.
