Elaborate, for fuck's sake.
It's super edgy.
What'd you find?
Turns out those logs are on my laptop, so I have to set that up again. I'll do it tomorrow. I've got all the images he's shared on my Dropbox though.
It's super edgy.
no it isn't
-post-
Hey ScarT, this isn't really HL2 related (more or less "Team Gaben X-mas Alpha" related). I'm not 100% clear on what Team Gab3n was. Was it like, Valve before they were called Valve? I'm wondering because the issue of the x-mas alpha leak came up in the Team Fortress 2 Classic thread on page 25 and I've found out that Team Gab3n people don't take kindly to the x-mas leak stuff being handed out. Thing is, I've had the x-mas leak available for download on my personal archive of scrapped/alpha/beta TF2 content (which also contains backed up files of unused stuff from TF2 that Valve hasn't removed yet and some rarities like the Nailgun viewmodel, draw sound and firing sounds) for ages now (like 2 years) and the last thing I need is you guys on my ass over having the leak available (psst, it's still available, but I should probably remove it eh?) So this begs the question. How exactly does Team Gab3n have "ownership" of the Invasion Alien/Human commando models/anything in the leak? Kinda ties in to the first question at the beginning of the post ("What is Team Gab3n? Are they Valve before they were called Valve?") Oh, also. The leak on my archives was located at: http://www.unfgaming.net/archives/TF2 (Team Gaben Alpha, Playable).zip, but I have since removed the download.

They were peeps who delved into the leaked content from various sources and managed to produce some interesting stuff. Scart was one of them. To my mind, they don't have ownership of the models those were from a TF2 leak, just the modified code base and other original content which Scart and others spent a lot of time working on.
I'll be damned if the HL2 episodes aren't making me wish Valve stuck with some of the enemies and weapons they cut. There were free mods being released that had more ambitious gameplay.
so this is a thing [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/EKtTHi0.jpg[/img_thumb] (not released yet)

Well out of respect, I've removed the xmas leak from my site hosting. I only had it up there purely for historical purposes, for anyone who wanted to try it out for themselves.
some rarities like the Nailgun viewmodel
I know this doesn't really belong here but the nail gun view model appears to not be of the original. Besides its broken smoothing on the backpart of it, there is a bone contains the name tf_beta_nailgun something. I have no clue if it means its a fake or modified but its just something I noticed awhile ago but had no where to put it.
Something I've been working on today: [thumb]http://oi62.tinypic.com/4vmowp.jpg[/thumb] The one on the left is the leak model, the one on the right is a modified retail model(in case that wasn't obvious). It's turning out pretty well imo.
That'd be neat to see.
I'll post them with the logs. There was a leak related thread where someone started working on a patch for the leak back in 2006 or so. The thread can still be found there (I'm not linking it since I'm not sure it that results in an autoban - there's a lot of Steam piracy going on there). There was a time where we didn't appreciate the early releases of our content like Team Fortress 2, we happened to have access to various passwords for various accounts at the time, so we removed a bunch of "unauthorized" videos from YouTube by accessing those accounts. That's basically all we've done of malicious work which eventually spawned AGNMI, which is pretty hilarious. As for the ownership of the content none of us care about it anymore. I believe the map 2fort is the only thing that actually belongs to us but that's it, and I'm not entirely sure. Feel free to keep hosting it, and let me know if you have more questions. There was a couple of other guys on the team but they've mostly disappeared.
Oh, good that you popped it up. I wanted to re-enable/remake the original npc since some stuff of it like the melee attack still on the code.
It's actually really easy, there's a few lines that need to be commented and then a few lines that need to be added, really simple stuff.
Has anyone ever tried remaking c17_04? I really like the breencast machine. I tried to make it in Industrial 17.
Hey ScarT, did TAP ever actually make a Source Port of Deathmatch Classic on the beta engine? At one point I was told that, but obviously no info ever came out.
We abandoned multiplayer altogether, so no.

nah, go on it's interesting to see anything going off from the alpha leak, even when you're posting it in a completely wrong thread with no explanation as to what it is exactly that you're doing
It's a real shame all the teams working on Half-Life 2 original storyline projects seem to be butting heads. It sounds like tying the concepts and developed maps together into a cohesive, ongoing journey is something that would need everyone involved to work as one.

How are you doing it?
unreleased as of yet, but I'm porting a couple of alpha maps [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/EKtTHi0.jpg[/img_thumb] (not shown: c1a3, warez_dm) i can give you an explanation if you really want one
I remember playing a two player duel in dm_warez back when HL alpha was discovered
If anyone here can draw or something and is interested in the leak/rtb, let me know. I've been wanting to redesign the health charger, hev charger, battery, and medkit/vial to look more like the artstyle of 2002 hl2 and could use some ideas. On a somewhat related note, has anyone ever noticed/gotten annoyed at how the medkits have a glowing green vial of "health stuff" while the health charger has blue glowing features? Likewise the batteries have blue glowing features and the hev charger has orange glowing features. I always found it kinda discordant.
i ported the training course backward into the alpha for some reason i post hl1 alpha stuff here simply because the hl1 alpha thread is pretty dead at this point
I'm kinda wondering how long you'd live if you spent your days locked inside of an asbestos jumpsuit and a lead apron breathing recycled air half the time. Going to assume that you have to take liberties with the amount of cancer people would contract if you look at Beta C17 through your realism-goggles. Inb4 Portal joke (User was banned for this post ("Meme reply" - Craptasket))

Inb4 Portal joke
Maybe that's the point, like it's some subtle way of coercing people to go through with transhuman surgery, also I'd like to imagine that at least some of the tenements have some sort of air filter and the rubber suits are more like work clothes. That's part of the beauty of the unfinished story, you get to fill in some of the blanks yourself. It's also why I think the argument of "Oh well you know the original plot is a waste of time because it was so inconsistent/unrealistic/dumb" is bullshit because it is possible create a version of it that makes sense and is fun to work of off, you just need to be a little creative.
so for like a month now i've been resurrecting the half-life nostalgia project from planethalflife, using the web archive. currently its being hosted at this address and so far i have gotten every section rebuilt (except screenshots), and some bits of concept art and a few cuttings added. this is mostly an experiment, and i have some big-ish plans for the site. please tell me what you think about it
there shouldnt be any reason not to combine both hl1 and hl2 early content anyway
If this thread ever reaches that 5000 milestone it will be recreated as a general thread for all betas
