Half-life 2 Cut Content - Is it me or dose the cut content look better than what we got?

I actually tried to make beta-ish SMOD.
Lost it ages ago, still not regret it.
if this isnt ironic
i think i have it but cba reuploading it
I wasnt ironic, i'm legitimately curious how bad it could be
Plus if they really have 9 chapters it would make it the most "completed" beta mod yet

Here's the latest version. Dunno if it still has the golden 357 though. Also the Terminal in it is less... "innovative" and more like the original version. So, no fire pits and army trucks everywhere.
It has most settings on Low, by default, and that's indended by the dev. When I tried to run on High I got a lot of crashes, somehow.
Kinda got that retail atmosphere I'm hoping you'll tweak that later but looks very good.
Better?
It must be a lot easier to work with compared to the mess that is Terminal.
Oh yes. There's a good reason I decided to start from scratch.

Well the average download speed is about 96 kb/s, so I guess I'll have to leave the computer open tonight. Hosting in siberia, huh

Looks way too green-tinted and darkened, it's very hard to make out any significant details. I'd leave the colour correction right til the very end, that way you can adjust it based on your final aesthetic.
Why does no one go for the 2002ish artstyle ie. the brush combine walls/doors/towers/etc. I'm not saying use the brushes, but make new models based on that aesthetic instead of the retail combine aesthetic.
At first I thought all the yellowish, reddisn lighting is color correction but then I remembered that it runs on Source 2006. For perf.
2006 WAT?
What Snood said.
Why is this leak mod based on SMOD
Actually wait, i dont want to know

"2013 lags with and without multicore rendering, 2006 doesn't lag"
They're planning to switch to Ep2 branch later on, though. I guess that means SDK Base 2007? But it does have worse perf than 2013.
When you kill a NPC you get a coin. When you pick up the coin there's a default door shut sound. Don't try to use logic here. Logic is dead.
Also, as to why the sound is compressed and the picture is shitty (no water reflections, etc.). HL2OS dev posted a "GPU test" and confirmed that with minimal (i. e. default for his mod) settings VRAM usage is around 25 mb, whilst on Maximum (including parallax) it's closer to 250. So he chooses to make Low settings default settings. I suppose we (meaning Russians) still live in a time when a 256 mb video card is a luxury!
Also. I wanted to post some brush Combine technology I'm using in my maps but it seems I can't quite put anything from Imgur anymore. Did their policy just recently changed? Do I have to "publish" everything from now on? Otherwise there're no thumbnails. What is happening?
HL2OS devs think that most of the HL community keeps their high end PCs from 2000.

Jesus christ.

Its strange. We're doing the exact opposite for Missing Information. We don't support DirectX 8. We're not actively doing anything to block it but new effects and stuff like that won't care about DirectX 8. Depending on a lot of things I can see us moving to Source 2 if that ever becomes available.

Not quite exactly. According to him, around 50% of Russian gamers can only afford a single-core or a dual CPU, that common salary here is around 5-7k rubles ($75-100) and most people can't play HL2 on max settings. That's his justification for ludicrous 'optimisation' like fading props at 5 meters from the player, huge lightmapscale, LOD, no reflections, bad sound quality, etc. Naturally the mod looks like it's from the 90s. But it has up to 1000 fps!
Build 2046/Schwarzen Nebel is exact opposite and require 1-2 GB of VRAM but somehow they have "partnership". All while HL2OS dev blamed me for not caring about people with Celerons.
I mean, look. There's nothing wrong with optimising the game as much as it can be done, and there's certain fun in trying to minimise the engine, exclude anything unnecessary, etc. My friends and I even made <10 mb versions of the leak, HL1 and HL2. But when you start taking it too serious, and claim that half of the players in the country can't play HL2 with decent graphics, that's... well let's just say, never go full optimisation.

I don't know anything about gaming in Russia, maybe prices there are significantly larger than in the US, but not being able to max out HL2 in 2015 sounds pretty absurd to me. And I do agree with you, that doesn't really excuse "over-optimization" and making the game look like utter shit, but having over 1000 FPS in game. There's no need to have 1000+ FPS in a SP game, I'd do fine with 60 FPS, even 30.
What will Missing Information Greenlight feature?
For starters, 1.6 updated to the 2013 engine with some tweaks plus a couple of extra maps from the Team GabeN days. From there it will be a platform to easily update with more maps and other fixes without worrying about big patches like 1.5 and 1.6.

Definitely looking forward to the greenlight release MI team, after 4 years with no update to MI.
you have got to be shitting me.
this is a new low for /r/halflife, seriously

for the unaware, this is the leaked SHAFT build, not a real half-life leaked build.

Gotta be honest, I'm somewhat scared about the first release seeing its been so long people will expect a lot of new content, and the truth is we don't really have that much. Working on 1.6 was a lot of work and Source wasn't being friendly at the time either, so we all burned out and got busy with our lives.
Lets see if we even get on Greenlight in the first place. Ugh.

The problem with /r/halflife is that it feels like one of those forums for a cancelled Disney TV show where the last few remaining young fans post fanfics, argue and "leak" stuff every day. They hope that one day their shenanigans will grab the attention of a big exec for the show and get it in production again, after seeing the burning passion of a community with 13 year olds who argue about a badly written forum post from a "now homeless Disney ex-screener viewer".
not all that different from most of the hl2 leak communities that take third party content and assume its legit early content
Oh, I loved it when I was fucking around in leak Hammer and put the consul statue on that one pedestal in c17_04 and took a nice looking screenshot of it in the Team GabeN fix and the Combine Overwiki published it as a screenshot of a "Consul Plaza" they assumed was an old area. I think it's gone now though but it was up for at least a few years.

Actually it still says that
"Gordon arrives at the Consul/Breen Plaza[2] where stands a huge white statue of the Consul[3] (although in the WC mappack the early Breencast is there instead, with the police station nearby, and set before Kleiner's Lab, not after). He leaves City 17 through the Canals.
Notable info about its use in retail
No map was ever made, only the statue model exists. It was merged with the Trainstation Plaza, the statue being merged with the Breencast, since it was to be seen twice, at the start of the game in good condition, and at the end during the uprising. It also survived in a more literal way as the Breen busts seen in the Overwatch Nexus and the Citadel. "
What you said also reminded me of how there was a screenshot of Factories fix with sky_palace01, I think it was also made by Team GabeN?
There is quite a number of cases when there's some arguable statement about the leak and it links simply to "WC mappack". Why not some specific map instead?
I remember there being a Team GabeN Wiki, I even had a chance to read it before it went down. Also there was or maybe still is an hl2-beta.ru own Wiki.
The Team GabeN wiki is still up but it hasn't been updated in six years. It was our forum that went offline. www.teamgaben.com and the link should be on the top left.
Oh, that's good. Thanks.

[t]http://i.imgur.com/QT1RZb4.jpg[/t]
Two Consul_Statue models in the plaza flank the entrance to the terminal in train_depot08.vmf.
For the record, almost every single piece of information related to the HL2 leak on the OverWiki was added by one individual about six years ago. This old information is now clearly marked for cleanup in order to review their accuracy. This is no simple feat as there are dozens of articles and hundreds of images to sort through, and the information provided is exceedingly difficult to verify due to poor and vague citations. So far, I've done what I can to replace all of the Missing Information mod screenshots with actual beta depictions and mark any leak content that I could not verify as being untouched as containing fan-made modifications. If you spot any errors, pointing out corrections would be most appreciated.

This is an entirely different location, though. It has its own paragraph there, too. I think the info I posted was referring to c17_04 and the small plaza in it, near the end of the level, from where you first see the Arcade.
P. S. I just searched through all WC mappack files and train_depot08 is literally the only map to feature that statue.

No, this used to have my screenshot of c17_04 on the same page.
I did a deeper search into the article's edit history and found the Consul statue image in question was added January 10, 2009, the day the article was created, where it was identified as GabeN screenshot. It was then removed May 1, 2009.
It seems the implication was to use fan-made content to help illustrate the blanks where the pre-compiled or unfinished leak content would not suffice, hence screenshots from several identified mods. However, this made the mistake of assuming all of the fan-made content was indicative of Valve's original intentions when artistic liberties were being taken by the mod teams as well, leading to confusion.
