Why is there always a burning barrel?
I question their choice of putting a missile in a fucking town square.
It's Combines' psychical pressure: if citizens won't pick up that can they gonna bomb 'em.
The "HL2 Oldschool Story" - the most bestest leak recreation mod, got some news too!
They promise us stable 30-60 fps. Wow!!! (Leader said that compressing sound saves 50mb of RAM).
They also planning multiplayer! Also they're implying that SMOD dev gave them sourcecode.
Also dev is implying that they got ready plot and other mods are dead shit.
I forgot to mention that they have two versions of the mod: with normal sound and compressed one, so everyone can experience their creation.
Latest gameplay:

On a serious note leader acts really autistic, cheap and assholish.
My god, the Combine have taken over a bad Action Quake 2 map and scattered random HL2 props and props from a mid-2000s military game throughout it! When will their evil end?

Do you genuinely think that their beautiful mappers are like this? They only use random WC vmf's and best Postal 3/GTAIV props.

There's only one way to defeat them. Which means we'll have to go through all of those maps to get to the Consul... oh shi~.
Finally got back to working on terminal:

Not all that much new, just some extra details and atmospheric tweaks. Raising the streetlight height had the interesting side-effect of making the lighting much more orange. It's more realistic, and I think it looks interesting, but I'd like a second opinion on it.

The lighting looks very nice and natural!
Sure beats toxic green or nonsense-blue lighting we get to see in some mods...
What matters most to me is how believable a game space is. It may have stock textures, it doesn't have to be intricately detailed, but it's gotta be sensible, believable, it should have integrity. What I see is some very believable mapping, very true to the original concepts of C17.
There is room for improvement however. For example, in the last screenshot, the brick wall on the right translates into blue wooden facade and it doesn't look very natural, it should have some space added to form a seam.

The military props are from Nuclear Dawn and the mod version of Insurgency, for those who are curious
So they literally just drag/dropped models from other source and games mods into theirs

One last thing before I go to bed: Tried my hand at the soldier parade, didn't turn out horrible. I'll post a video tomorrow.
That makes me moist.

It's amazing to me how well you capture the atmosphere that I think people have been trying to create for like 10 years. I have not seen anyone even come close, but for some reason you nailed it. Bravo.
so it is possible
i'm impressed, TBH, keep up the good work!

Everyone thought it was impossible. Then a soewhat new guy came, not knowing that, and just made it.
Easy as that.

Dude, if you can make a CS version of this old City 17 for CSGO, Valve would hire you without a second thought. Do you have any tips for others to achieve this amazing atmosphere?
Holy shit, this terminal map is the best beta related map I've seen.
Well, um... how do I put it... naturally that's a very good map but it kinda bothers me how people started saying "this is the best map in the 10 years" as if there's no other talented devs in the community, for example the Cremation maps were quite nice in their appearance (even with not so great optimisation), and there are very sweet screenshots from MI's urban levels, dated back a few years. Just sayin'. One of the best is a more appropriate form, I think.
It's the best map till I see another one. :v:

I really liked cremation's maps as well. I'm not saying the other devs in the community aren't talented, but this is honestly the first time in a while that I'm genuinely impressed by a map of this style.
about this mod being the best XD, id say RTB is prety awesome ( no intent to advertise XD) eventho its not close to being finished, its still neat
How about hl2 ep2 alpha content?

Episode 2 had leaked alpha content? Or is that just the Episode 1 hunter skin?
Someone on our Greenlight page asked if we were doing any Episode 2 cut concepts. I wasn't aware there was anything substantial.
The build its running on is the particle benchmark version of ep2 the npc ministrider model is from ep1 and the sounds from ep2 the map is one of 4 leaked ep2 concept maps that was accidently released with the android version of ep2. So its effectively a restored alpha.
Bit of a stretch but it is all alpha content.
You could call it THE LEAKED ALPHA OF THE LASTEST HALF-LIFE GAME and be technicaly correct

No, they probably wouldn't hire him "without second thought". The dark atmosphere of City 17 wouldn't be conductive at all to such a competitive game, let alone even get close to fitting the atmosphere of the other CS GO maps.

Just make it about as bright as cs_backalley and rework other aspects. Dark atmosphere doesn't mean Doom 3's darkness or extreme fogs, you know.
It's the best map till I see another one. :v:
Guess you should look around this community more, then.
As for Ep2 alpha stuff. It suprises me why anyone would look for it in mods like MI. This would be very anachronistic. I'm not even sure if existing Synth Hunters and Zombines should be in leak mods, or whether we should count Lost Coast as an "original storyline" location, let alone spending time on recreating cut Ep2 material.

I never played CSGO but I don't see why can't there be a night map along daytime maps, but that's besides the point; more importantly, I don't think creating a single map is enough to draw Valve's attention let alone guarantee being hired. Do they even care about modmakers anymore? Feels like all that "made a cool mod, got a position at Valve" is a thing of the past and more of a fairy tale to begin with.

Because ensuring that players are visible is a important part of CS GO map design. It's not a game about camouflage.

Hi, can you post a download link for all of the styleguide maps?

And I take it that wasn't important back in CS/CSCZ/CSS days?
I don't get it, to be honest. Wouldn't a night map provide a kind of new experience? And that Terminal plaza isn't even a night map, it's got sufficient ambient lighting as well as streetlights.
