I refused to believed it, now I have no other choice... Also. Did you know that people like MI team or that Dark Interval dev, or guys from P9, all they do is shit on this mod our of envy, and because they have no content to show, and also because they want someone else (like HL2OS team) to "do their work for them and put their vision to reality"? Because that's what I'd been told by this mod's lead developer. I mean, people are really awful, right?! They just can't do without trashing a beautiful, original mod.

Their Combine is pretty effective at whatever torture they do on the citizens. They're all just mindlessly staring into bright fire coming from a barrel without any question. They can stand so close to these flaming barrels without getting burned from the heat. You can't call the Combine heartless though. Leaving lights running and even putting up TV screens in the god damn sewers! There was another thing I noticed when I watched this video but I can't remember what it was, and hell if I'm watching that again.

When they posted that Subt vid I didn't come there to comment on how weird or whatever it was but when the author started misinforming people, telling that MI, DI and P9 teams are all shitting on his mod out of envy, that they're not doing anything themselves and try to make others do their work for them (because criticising on factual basis = enforcing your vision, obviously). They can do whatever they want with their maps but they aren't so innocent and are hardly being oppressed.
Who's ready for some [I][B]content?[/B][/I] Before all that, the obligatory introductory stuff. I'm a recent addition to the MI team (possibly the latest, can't say I'm sure). I mostly do modeling, some mapping, and then tweaking all sorts of other things around this way and that. I'll only be showing things I'm personally working on, nothing I show is final, blah blah disclaimer yadda yadda. Moving on! Won't be posting too much this first run, but have two different workings that aim for the same target, bullet decals. Ah, bullet decals. These were a big deal back in Half-Life 1; a huge step towards realism. They rooted the players and their actions in the game world with one of the only ways they had to interact with it, their weapons. Then comes Half-Life 2 where magnificent systems were put in place to accurately describe the properties of different real world materials. Then Valve fucked it up by just basing half of them off of dirt, which in turn used concrete as its decal base. So one thing I did was alter some of the worst offenders in Half-Life 2, namely the absent-in-retail snow and ice textures. Shooting and hitting snow will no longer look like firing into a block of concrete, but hopefully, just [URL="http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/404556234649236509/59D425BFC9058897FFE3D979E40F62B83F579008/"]a bit more realistic[/URL]. A small, relatively easy fix to make, yet I don't think I've ever seen any other mods out there do it. Next up isn't so much a problem with the decals themselves, but with the system that enacts them and how Valve handled it. Each world material/static model in Source can only have one material type (i.e. one type of bullet decal) assigned to it. Under most conditions this isn't [I]too[/I] big of an issue, but for windows on brush buildings it becomes painfully obvious. Two, three, sometimes even four different building materials are present on some of the textures scattered throughout City 17 and surrounding environs. In the beta, to a certain extent, Valve actually helped alleviate this problem with models of windows based off of the world textures. However, many weren't made right at the time of the leak, and whether for hits to performance on 2003 systems, a lack of time to see them to completion, or just saying "fuck it," they scrapped them come release. Part of my time on the team's been spent bringing those back up to snuff, and paired with alternate versions of the world materials for the glass, things look [URL="http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/397798135988081769/F1476EE373A7FC69FADD5B2786184DA226B6F6FA/"]a lot better[/URL].

I see a few issues immediately, however. The breakable surf gets a noticeable shade lighter when it's initially shot. It also appears that both the sound effects and gibs produced for it (best seen when the player starts shooting them at the end of the video) still use glass. Could comment on the quality of the texture, but assume that could be made better. Another issue is in the design of the prison. A lot of the corners are rounded, which breakable surfs don't support. [editline]Oh hi.[/editline] So have done some messing around with this. Made tiles their own unique breakable_surf textures, which used to be missing, and things look pretty good for the most part. I stopped the video 14 seconds in, the god damn compressed sound ended up giving me a headache which shouldn't be much of a surprise. Maybe the god damn developers and their computers might be from 1997 but I'm pretty sure the rest of Russia doesn't have computers with less than a gigabyte of ram and hard drive space
