The thing is, and I've said this before, I could totally see the Hydra working in a gameplay sense. From what I've seen and read, there were two major problems with it: 1) It wasn't fun to fight, because there was no real indicator of when or how it was going to attack you. 2) There was no easily discernible way of killing it. I'd say for the first point, just give it a sound it plays when it's about to attack, like the poison headcrab has, while it jerks the attacking tentacle back slightly as a physical cue. As for the second, either maybe you allow it to be killed by gunfire like any other NPC, or you could use the enemy more as an environmental obstacle that the player has to actively avoid while traversing the area, with maybe a way of stunning it or getting it to temporarily fuck off.

Or the floor turrets in the suppression building.
2) There was no easily discernible way of killing it.
I always figured that the most enjoyable way to kill them would be to slice them with a saw blade or other sharp prop.

Interestingly enough I don't see any sign of the elite metrocop that's in the final version.
The short stories in the Epilogue at the end of the book are pretty rad, some more insight into the manhack arcade and meeting kleiner, stuff like that.
I always figured that the most enjoyable way to kill them would be to slice them with a saw blade or other sharp prop.
maybe the original idea was to replace the blast pit things with an emphisis on the gravity gun. So instead of hucking explosives at it, you just sever the end of the arms with sawblades to "distract" it while the arms grow back. Presumably that's why it ended up being made of energy

Guy behind SteamDb.info made this.
Thanks to that Laidlaw's "Old Friends" short story it just came up in my mind that this guy is Dr. KLEINER and not Eli Maxwell.
[sp]Look at the spelling[/sp]
I love how they wrote "Ted Bachman" instead of Ted Backman every time:pudge:
old snake
I'm enjoying like a kid about all the unseen stuff that it brings. Is so cool that they did a model for the "rancor" design of the Gargantua, or the Alien Grunts in green. I always thought it was Gearbox who had the idea about the male assasins first. Guess not. Also HL: Day One was leaked before than the expected release for the OEM systems. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4Obq1dX.png[/t] Interesting they did a model for that concept, before the Freeman model. [t]http://i.imgur.com/Y4onCeh.png[/t] It even talks about several mods like Action Half-Life, International Online Soccer, HL Rally, Azure Sheep, Case Closed, Natural Selection, Poke646, Sweet Half-Life (yes), Sven Co-op, They Hunger and Science & Industry! Also is interesting how one of the devs of the CS mod tried to do a Star Wars mod and got a C&D letter. Times haven't changed in modding :v: They talk a lot about TF, CS, DOD, Gunman Chronicles, Opposing Force, Blueshift and Decay. Is so detailed. [t]http://i.imgur.com/5Ueq4jw.png[/t] The debate about what was Ricochet has been finally solved, we can return to our homes now. this may not be HL related but: Does the book say anything about why TF2: BOA was not released?
this may not be HL related but: Does the book say anything about why TF2: BOA was not released?
I don't think so. TF2 was still in production then, so they are still hush about it. By the way, is the model for the fat zombie even in the leak? OverWiki said it shares the same model with the Poison Zombie, but replacing the Poison Zombie's textures doesn't seem to do anything (as in, the texture didn't change even after refresh and restarting hlmv).
All right, all this content is good and all, but seriously, where is Valve's nautilus "Naut"? We haven't heard about him for a long time and I feel an explanation is due for Valve's treasured mascot and what happened to him. [t]http://i.imgur.com/lpRID6V.png[/t]

I have a conversion of it to replace the retail zombie lying around someplace (unless the original model for it was fanmade)

[t]http://i.imgur.com/lpRID6V.png[/t]
Nautiluses are insanely hard to keep properly, and rarely live beyond a few years in captivity even though they live +20 years in the wild. It wouldn't surprise me if Naut died.
Hmm, so Odell was the Hyperborea's engineer. Good to know this officially. I'm disappointed that there is nothing new in here about Vertigo/Palace. It's strange that after all this time Valve has yet to even acknowledge it. However, that old concept art that looks like a dilapidated church was labelled as being Palace concept art in this proof, so at least we know what that was supposed to be.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/hs3OWCi.png[/t]
"constructed for the band Weezer" lmfao what the fuck rivers cuomo was a half-life fan holy shit
There are severed parts in the leak, from which a full model was restored.
fat zombie? only thing I could recall is the poison zombie
Torso and legs are still in the beta.
You can even see him in the official E3 2003 Traptown Demo
So fat zombies are not poison zombies, then?
Fun Fact - This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Team GabeN's formation.
How can one reactivate the old HUD (if it was even included in the leak)? I see some recreations of it, but they don't have the "bar" besides the primary ammo count (between the 30 and 60). Also, anyone got some ideas about what the Combine Assassin Cells are and how/why it's there? This kind of "organic" things rarely come from the Combine and the only other place with the same style of things is the old Citadel, with the weird tile-covered organic shapes.
It has been always said it was done by the rebels using Combine technology to transport stuff, Assasins this time.
i love the aesthetic of half-life 2 concept art where they take actual maps and paint over them, and the grainy look of the scanned page.

The way we interpreted the Borealis for MI 1.6 was that the ship was repurposed by the Combine and the crew rebelled. Why else would the Borealis Workers be wearing Combine labourer uniforms? Also the way the interior of the ship is hap hazardously gutted to make room for this distinctly Combine looking equipment, it only makes sense for this particular iteration of the Borealis (as opposed to the earlier iteration where it was the first area of the game) to be a Combine controlled vessel. I also tried to allude to this in MI when you hear the soldier on the bridge's radio refer to it as "integrated transport Hyperborea." That radio sound is also a good way to tell when other mods have ripped off our stuff. But anyway, the Borealis clearly went through at least two different purposes. Maybe it had zero to do with the Combine when it was the first area/training mission, maybe at one point it was under Combine control. Like many things in the leak there's more than one answer to what its purpose was. And that is why "recreating the original leak storyline" is a complete fallacy.
