Speaking of Cut Content here is something really early! the original Citizen 17, headless though needs work recovering the model.
W-w-WHAT? How the fuck did you get a hold of that?

Haha I will explain all but there is more to come.
I really doubt that's the original model, especially so since you'd have to have gotten it from someone either working from valve or actually found something new in the leak ten years after the fact.
No it is the real model, I can 100% assure you its it feel free to compare it to the known screenshots of the model keep in mind that the animation rig can stretch or crush sections in the screenshots but you should be able to match it fine. I am going to do a write up on how I found it in my next post.
I've heard that the old Dr.Cohrt model uses the gas mask citizen body, is that how you made that?
I've heard that the old Dr.Cohrt model uses the gas mask citizen body, is that how you made that?
Alright since the cat is out of the bag ill still do the write up for those interested. First of all after this I know every man and his dog is going to flock to where the model is and everyone will be able to use it for whatever purpose they desire but to me it feels good that even this long after the HL2 leak it is still possible to find new things, its kind of like gaming archaeology you go snooping around trying out things and just once in a while you might stumble across something awesome. I was playing around with the HL2 beta getting into some of the really old models and 2 of them looked familiar to me when I opened them, these were Cohrt and Samuel models, the 2 models were different proportionally, had some different model details such as different collars, shoes etc and the coats were slightly different but I noticed they were clearly made from the same mesh just edited and re-textured which got me thinking, what was the base mesh that valve recycled for these early models. I knew about Citizen 17 (like everyone) and I thought maybe it was the base mesh so I went into the Cohrt (the least edited of the 2) materials folder and swapped the materials over to the Citizen 17 Textures we all have in the leak and low and behold, the uvs matched perfectly. So I decompiled Cohrt, imported the mesh into 3ds max and started restoring the original model and voila! the model is there, minus the head which I will have to make from scratch but first I am going to use it to restore the original Samuel model that will be a far easier job. Feels good even this many years having owned the beta to find new things.
You are the hero the leak community deserves.
Does anyone know what the Male_0101 file in the beta is? I always thought it could be Andrew, Trav, or the Citizen 17 model.
Here is the mostly reconstructed Samuel model.
looks better than mine [img_thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/595861580057860608/F4630320D885CF5C60AD090104A791D19FB44EE2/[/img_thumb] I couldn't find my image of it, this is my friend's image, my edit.
How exactly is the acid supposed to get to the gun? I don't see a hose anywhere.
There's a hose from his stomach on the original concept in RTB.
That's impressive, I'm surprised this wasn't common knowledge by now.
Haha, yeah! We discovered this about four years ago (or more?). We didn't make a big deal out of it because we assumed everybody knew. Before anyone shits themselves with more old news. We recovered all models from the leak down to v29 models (which is, as far as I remember, the lowest version number). Citadelfarnode.mdl is nothing to get excited about at all.
Does anyone know what the Male_0101 file in the beta is? All Citizen models gets their animations from that file. There's no code for it in the leaked code, so that was probably the hardest part of getting working when we fixed the engine.
His stomach is a container filled with corrosive stomach acid which is sprayed from his gun. (Source, HL2 Raising the Bar).
I didn't know that. That's pretty cool.
we assumed everybody knew
That was the first mistake. Sitting on that information for more than 4 years because you assume people already know about it was really irresponsible. Granted, now we have something "new" to talk about in the thread, but still. Shit, man.
Hey ScarT, do you know how to compile character models into the beta with the .vta files (the flex file) or would that require a custom compiler?
Here is the mostly reconstructed Samuel model. Pic
His head looks way too big. Almost like a dickhead is tucked in there. Still great work
I eagerly wish for the day Get Your Free TVs or an Episode 4 prototype make it's way onto the net.
Crazy. Just Crazy all this time its been here.
That's a pretty neat find Zero, I didn't know there was anything left to discover in this thing. ProZak just sounds like a bit of a dick about it though. "Hey look what I found." "No I found it first I just didn't tell you." Too bad, Zero gets more credit for actually showcasing his discovery. Anyway a bit off topic, but does anyone have a solution to the super-low quality textures and resolution not working (everything is stretched). I recall searching for supposed fixes (including an "axel project") but can never find anything more than dead links and Russian websites (that I can't navigate). I've barely gone through 1/100th of what there is to see in the beta, but the textures and (definitely) screen stretching strain my eyes too much to stay in very long.
Hey ScarT, do you know how to compile character models into the beta with the .vta files (the flex file) or would that require a custom compiler?
Doesn't the leak tools support this already? We never messed with that as far as I know.
You can patch your materialsystem.dll and engine.dll to "fix" this.
Patch it with what exactly? That's what I'm asking for, I haven't been able to find anything on my own for the longest time despite multiple searches. [editline]3rd June 2013[/editline] I feel I should also clarify, my current beta is the anon-hl2 version with a third party patch from some Russian website, "hl-beta.spb.ru_mega_patch". I don't know if that effects anything but it doesn't hurt to mention.
Doesn't the leak tools support this already? We never messed with that as far as I know.
If I can remember there is, but it's different from what's bundled with the retail SDK and any model I decompile.

The Axel Project is a patch for the leak that includes an updated executable and game libraries to fix this issue: http://depositfiles.com/files/5stbqj0bt
This patch actually makes all the maps work now, yay.
lol, there's a working link of The Axel Project on page 10 of this thread
Oh, I'm sorry. I fell behind this thread at one point though and skipped / skimmed a few pages and I guess I missed that one.
Thats the problem with the HL2 beta community, its full of people who sit on stuff they find or fix because they somehow think its cool or "exclusive" anything I find I will be certain to post, im not one of these hl2 beta elitists. And I know the Sam model is wonky he is still a heavy wip! not even close to release worthy.
All this recent talk about Citizen 17 suddenly reminded me that I still have mugofdoom's remake model: [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img199/5017/d1trainstation010000z.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img20/2856/d1trainstation010001u.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img826/817/d1trainstation010002.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img707/5682/d1trainstation010003.jpg[/t]
