Now the tv loop is stuck in my head... again.
Portal 2 destroyed all hopes of that.
because portal 2 is a half life game yes
good job

You know very well portal its self ties with HL3 so image a crap ton of kids thinking half life 3 is the next portal and get a grim dark world.
stop

no it doesn't

If the kids in question are smart enough to realize Portal and Half Life even have references to eachother, then they should be at least smart enough to realize Portal and Half Life are far different games.
no it doesn't
Yea, the reason Valve set Portal 2 so far ahead in the future *200 years* is because they wanted the Portal storyline to branch off from the Half-life storyline (by a large margin at that).
They explained it in some interview a few years ago
Really this conversation should be continued over here

It took alittle longer than I had expected because I didn't know where the beta kept the scripted_sentances files at so I had to do a crappy job at face posing.
That was terrible. None of it made sense, not a "creepy this is scary" but just plain simple wasn't coherent in anyway. Try again.
Edit: I realized this isn't terribly helpful, so here's a proper reply.
The G-man hologram thing showing up at the door looks odd in that area. The light in the general area is too bright, and something like that isn't really found in the Half-Life universe. The odd shaped brushes isn't a thing you'd see in the Half-Life universe either. Gordon isn't on drugs.
The opening windows doesn't make sense either. No matter how mysterious an area would be, it'd never have something like that. Try flickering lights instead. The spotlights you're using are just way too close to the player and Source doesn't handle that gracefully.
That was supposed to be a remake, right? Because I don't remember that scene being that way.

You do realize this is a testmap and its not going to be included right?
And even if it did, you do realize effects like this were planned for the intro train sequence right? Showing Gman's manipulation of time and space. Go check Raising the Bar and try again with a more friendly, constructive reply other than "this sucks you suck trololol". People like you are what makes the Beta community what we all know it is at this point.
Im really starting to believe the Missing Information team is nothing more than a bunch of crybabies that do nothing but complaining about other people's efforts to remake the Beta storyline.
PS: Also I dont quite understand how that misterious living organism can rate this post as "Friendly"... but there must be a good reason, right?

I rated it friendly because he gave it some proper constructive criticism on a second pass rather than just leaving that base reply.

That wasn't stated anywhere. Either way if you post something on the internet you can god damn expect someone to comment on it. The effects you're talking about were planned but obviously scrapped and turned into the intro from the retail product. Go look at the retail product and don't try to lecture me on RTB.
Believe whatever you want about the team behind Missing Information, you're free to do that. You take it as complaints because its coming from MI, if it came from somebody else it would be a different story. If you have anything else to say regarding this please write me a private message instead, it seems rather pointless to flood this thread with rants, thanks :)
p.s. who gives two shits about ratings on an internet forum? I sure as hell don't.

The point of the Beta community is to revise and arrange the most interesting concepts into a rational storyline, not make a half-assed attempt at compiling an unfinished map without actually adding in said concepts. Don't argue with one of the most involved members of the community.

Not to mention we've got an anniversary coming up.
I expect releases and updates, Scart and Bitl!

It seems you forgot the purpose of what we all are doing here. We are making Half-Life 2 again, guys!

Looks like someone got hit...
"Go look at the retail product and don't try to lecture me on RTB."
Try? Im not trying, Im doing it. :)
And Water-Marine, was that an order?
Looks like I screwed the pooch.

So if I was to darken the area around that spot then have the player open up that door and a G-man ghost goes past the player it would work better?

Thanks for the idea I will try that.

I noticed a little after the video was uploaded that the lamp sprites were messed up and were a solid white when the player went close.
Also I should of pointed out that some of the stuff I post in here isn't aimed for Insolence directly since It seems to be that everyone is trying to restart the Insolence Vs Missing Info shit.
Yeap, next hl confirmed for E10+ no blood included, cuz portal~
You missed what I said by a long shot. Good job.
What I was meaning is that a lot of recent Valves games have been pointing to a lighter world.
You may argue that L4D/2 are exceptions but compared to what L4D's original story line is like its no where close to being grim and dark.
Dota 2 is a really light game last I checked. Yes CSGO has guns in it but its not grim or dark. Portal 2 besides noticing you slept for the passed 200 years and the facility is shit doesn't mean its grim. EP2 wasn't grim either so why would Valve suddenly change Ep3 into something grim? It would make no sense too at all.
EP2 wasn't grim either so why would Valve suddenly change Ep3 into something grim? It would make no sense too at all.
I dunno, the end of Ep2 was pretty damn grim.
I dunno, the end of Ep2 was pretty damn grim.
Definitely a cliff hanger, that left the fans hanging on a cliff for 7+ years
I dunno, the end of Ep2 was pretty damn grim.
Only after having a deus ex machina sweep in to spoil an ostensibly idyllic little hideaway - if I'm able to bring in slightly more precision, I say we're instead referring to seeping misanthropy of the former Combine experience. (Here's subjective individual observation time - the levelled and fairly aired-out City 17 Valve eventually ended up with leaves me scrambling to remind myself that the Combine want to do nothing but exploit, rather than set me up with gut-curling alienation and visceral loathing from the get-go - unless you of course like to brood in cities tall, in shambles, and ghoulishly lit and run, at which point you and Marc Laidlaw haven't and won't ever see eye-to-eye in any case.)

Just like Alyx in the early ep2 trailer........
Just like Alyx in the early trailer........
That subtle future prediction... who knew... *sniff*
Portal 2 is grim too, if you look beneath the veneer of black comedy. [sp]You've got a sociopathic businessman whose carelessness leads a bunch of young men to horrible deaths, wastes away his fortune, exploits the homeless and his own employees, and then dies slowly and painfully after seeing his life's work fall to bits around him because of his own incompetence; a woman whose boss and friend posthumously orders her literally mind-raped into a computer against her will, and then immediately tries to kill everyone in the building in retribution, is experimented on for years in an effort to stop her trying to kill everyone, kills everyone, goes insane, is torn to bits and dies, relives her death continuously for goodness knows how long, and then lives forever in a state of crippling loneliness and ineffective anger; a paranoid schizophrenic who watches all his co-workers murdered and lives for years hiding from a homicidal maniac that can rearrange everything around him to her will; a sentient AI that goes mad with power, tries to kill his former friend out of creeping paranoia, and then is cast out into space forever with nothing to do but regret his actions; a potentially unlimited amount of sentient robots who are constructed, then funnelled into an incinerator and die painfully, all of this for no reason at all; etc.[/sp]
