I hate Steampipe with a passion. Prevented me from running HL2 in DX9, broke thousands of mods. All for faster download speeds.
Im so tired of this shit... really.

I wish they combined all of the source engines to 1 single source base

impossible because of all the improvements that conflict with each other on different branches
not to mention it would break just about everything
hmm I will compose a video of what I was working on before the update hit.
Oh cheeky cheeky.
Source SDK Base 2007 updated today.
Result? Grids are gone in Hammer.
In regards to beta.ru, that site always goes down because of funds. Dont worry, it should be back soon.
Those grids have been missing in 2007 hammer for a while now.

It happens when you cant mount the wireframe textures from the source base gcf.

They worked fine yesterday.
May I ask why you haven't moved your mods to Source SDK Base 2013 yet?
May I ask why you haven't moved your mods to Source SDK Base 2013 yet?
The only benefits from it are pretty much only for multiplayer right?
edit: yes its a very bad thing to ask a question in a question thread.
No, this is for both versions. The GCF system is being completely ditched for the VPK setup. This results in faster load times. The new engine supports a few new things and includes proper multicore rendering.
You get Mac and Linux support, granted that isn't a very big base right now its still worth adding support for.
The fact that the source is on Github is a big plus as well.
If some of you are put off by the lack of SDK Launcher I'll put something together.

Sounds good to me

you haven't either you know
you haven't either you know
I'm quite aware of that. All our development branches are always kept on the latest working version though. That's what I was wondering about. We're doing an update for 1.6 to bring it to 2013 at some point but unfortunately I've been flooded with real life work these days, so I haven't been able to compile it for Mac or Linux yet.
The only benefits from it are pretty much only for multiplayer right?
No. There is a singleplayer base. And 2013 includes VR support, steampipe, and other things.
It's better than 2007 by far.

My Intel GMA says no.
Unless I can mod for the 2007 engine.
I think it's funny that Valve have time to back-port VPK support to Source 2007, but didn't do anything with Source SDK since the Mac Update.
Oh, those treasures in Beta sounds...
3 types of Combine sound files, some music stingers (that were cut for some reason, and replaced by HL1 versions, dunno why...)

I don't have that particular GPU available myself but I believe the requirements for 2013 are the same as 2007. Am I wrong about this? Hmm.

The wonders of having a shitty computer...
The 2013 branch of the engine introduces some new stuff which prevents me to run on DX9, and makes me having to resort to DX81. Yea it sucks... but if it makes Insolence any better, I can take it. Dragging the mod down because of a cheap-ass PC would be ridiculous.

Really? I'm relatively sure those things could be disabled (don't hold it against me though, I'd have to have the card available to test). I think there were some issues with using DirectX 9 for some people which should be fixed. Using the SteamPipe system is overall recommended.

Raw unfiltered combine lines are fucking hilarious.
Finally, the Predator effect works in Steampipe HL2, I also took a look at the .vmt that's used in The Hidden mod and based mine more off that, here's it running on the default elite model:

Most of that trailing blur effect is from my mouselook.
Im working now on the 2013 base. Yup, cant run in DX9 anymore. But the load times are certainly faster, and Hammer world a bit better than before.
I surely urge everybody to go to 2013 while you can.

Yep. And testing ones (those, which sounds like robots underwater) have this HL1 feeling to them... I dunno, why.
Well, i'll try to filter HECU lines to ressurect old Elite sounds (which are listed in sentences.txt)

Dont you think I tried that? Ive been battling the problem of "messed up mesh rendering... shaderapixdx9 in debug blablabla" since 2010.
There is no fix other than going to DX81.
Could you paste the complete error message? I'd like to look into it.
Could you paste the complete error message? I'd like to look into it.
I would not recommend wasting your time because of a GMA. But anyways, here it is:
"ERROR: failed to create vertex decl for vertex format 51483! You'll probably see messed-up mesh rendering - to diagnose, build shaderapidx9.dll in debug!"
The number always changes. Im sure it has something to do with the lighting...
This is what the error causes to HL2: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=144326989
Think you could do a lot better with that AK model. It's lacking lots and lots of detail, things like that metal bit that goes onto the stock should be modelled on. And I don't know whether it's the FOV or the angle but it looks like a small toy.
Why ruin the beauty of beta weapons, it's like giving Alyx bigger boobs when it isn't needed
