Plus the obvious thing like the extra jumping capabilities. Have fun preventing the player from exploiting your maps.
Plus the obvious thing like the extra jumping capabilities. Have fun preventing the player from exploiting your maps.
Couldn't you just rewrite the weapon code and remove the crazy ass kickback and power?
Plus the obvious thing like the extra jumping capabilities. Have fun preventing the player from exploiting your maps.
Player_clip everywhere. Actually, it didn't exist back then did it?
Player_clip everywhere. Actually, it didn't exist back then did it?
Then you spazz out with the invisible brush and pray nothing other than the player hits them.
I don't see the problem, HL1 simply doesn't allow extra jumping capabilities with the gauss in singleplayer.
I just noticed that http://hl2-beta.ru is back up again.
I think there were some commands to restrict gauss jumping and the "radius damage". Gonna find them to check if it comes from HL1 or from mods.
Then you spazz out with the invisible brush and pray nothing other than the player hits them.
Nothing other than the player can hit them. its called player_clip for a reason. If you wanted it to block everything, you would use invisible.
Witch do you like better? Models or brushes?
This isn't really an issue because you can make a perfect cylinder instead of a hexagon in Hammer. Valve probably didn't have cylinders at the time this was made
I don't see the problem, HL1 simply doesn't allow extra jumping capabilities with the gauss in singleplayer.
pretty sure only the vertical force is removed in SP the horizontal kickback is still there, and you can use it to push yourself into cliffs and skybox-swim through a good part of surface tension
This isn't really an issue because you can make a perfect cylinder instead of a hexagon in Hammer. Valve probably didn't have cylinders at the time this was made
You know you could make that (or a pipe very close to that) using displacements fairly easily?
You know you could make that (or a pipe very close to that) using displacements fairly easily?
Displacement piping seems like kind of a useless waste of resources IMO. At least for that size of piping.
Displacement piping seems like kind of a useless waste of resources IMO. At least for that size of piping.
Not really, displacements use up less resources than brushes, and look much nicer for something like that.
Not really, displacements use up less resources than brushes, and look much nicer for something like that.
I can't decide if you're serious or not. Please tell me you're joking.
This isn't really an issue because you can make a perfect cylinder instead of a hexagon in Hammer. Valve probably didn't have cylinders at the time this was made
weather they did or not doesn't really matter, because these brushes look out of place when used with those modeled pipe joints.
Nothing other than the player can hit them. its called player_clip for a reason. If you wanted it to block everything, you would use invisible.
It was a reply to what Snood had said about if player clip wasn't around during the beta.
So dont go all accuracy flame on my ass for this but, doing a bit of backwards modeling using the textures as an outline and slowly working out from there, just something to keep me occupied [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/59Ss7.jpg[/img_thumb] Edit: oh yeah, no where close, note to self, keep reference photo open at all times Edit #2: [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/59ULd.jpg[/img_thumb] Eh, could be better but not bad so far
fgf
that reminds me that i have a remake of the get your free tvs citizen. it sucks though, mine, not yours [editline]6th November 2013[/editline] also reminds me i fixed the uvs to the hand i dont even know where i placed these files
It looks pretty decent, but it's just really squashed up. You should stretch the lower half towards the chin a bit, so it looks something like this: [t]http://www.greenham.com/images/products/290122.jpg[/t] I might actually try hacking together my own gasmask citizens for Gmod out of some other models. I always did like the concept.
Fixed some of the derp chin, [t]http://puu.sh/5a12P.jpg[/t] Honestly i would reskin it but for now I'm limited to the actual hood texture, not much room for detail with it though, especially under the chin and eyes I'm happy i modeled this over a civilians head, gave me a scale reference i think that payed off [t]http://puu.sh/5a1ch.jpg[/t] Edit:
that reminds me that i have a remake of the get your free tvs citizen. See the visor is large enough so that the user has an increased FOV, yours is a bit squashed and would be very restrictive. Also the hood probably wouldn't be stretched almost skintight around the person's face, it restricts movement. You need to get some folds and the effects of gravity in there. Hope this helps!
Also the hood probably wouldn't be stretched almost skintight around the person's face
Well the fact that the texture has these elastic band marks on it would seem that it was meant to be tight [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/5aswd.jpg[/img_thumb] and i do like yours but i was going for a more to the reference when it came to size and look, though that does help thank you
IMO the hood should look more like Snood's old gasmask citizen model (which was like the only good part of it, lol): [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img20/2856/d1trainstation010001u.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img199/5017/d1trainstation010000z.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img826/817/d1trainstation010002.jpg[/img_thumb]

I might aswell release this since I probably wont ever finish it http://puu.sh/5aEgR Here's the project files to my City 17 Gasmask Citizen Feel free to use it as a reference or complete it. Anyone, not just a certain person. Edit: This reminds me I should finish that Andrew head remake... some day

Wasn't there someone in this thread who dressed up as a gasmask civvie for halloween? I'm still kinda interested in seeing that :v: Also awesome job to everyone recreating their own citizens, always wanted to see this kinda enthusiasm in regards to beta content.
Well the fact that the texture has these elastic band marks on it would seem that it was meant to be tight
Well according to the texture the band was somewhere around the neck, which imo makes more sense, might want to move it down a bit [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/5aRU7.jpg[/img_thumb]
One of the things I really liked from the beta content was how it gave a stronger sense of how civilian life was like than the retail game. In my opinion it would have caused the player to have more empathy for the civilians and show how much the combine effects them. In the retail game it doesn't show what civilians do with themselves except for stand around all day.
