I just don't get the point of going through the beta when everything is broken.
but i found the original's one

not everything is broken. it can be stable depending on what map you are on.
[sp] i would reference some maps that run fine on the leak, but my unpatched leak got destroyed because i wanted to see if I could get tap working.[/sp]

I understand that, I still have my copy of the unpatched leak and I've gone through it, but why show off the E3 maps when the scripts and some of the models don't work? He should of shown off the working maps first at least.
i was showing off the tech demos, im revisiting the weapons in the next episode i thought they were interesting
For some completely inane reason I'm deciding to make a HL2 Beta Counter-strike Global Offensive map.

Probably been mentioned many times before, but does anyone else really hate how closed down the HL2 Beta community can be sometimes? Like not letting their tools be available to the public or open source their code, or post their fixes. It's annoying to think how much farther the modding community would have gotten if everybody shared. If I was a modder of any sorts I would make sure I would be very open with the community, posting sources and pre release versions etc.
You should w/ Missing Information
No, why not The Axel Project?

unfortunatly its always been like this and will always be like this, people like the epeen swell they get from posting screenshots and screaming "look what I can do and you cant" instead of working with the community.
Good lord, man. It was more of a yes or no question, thanks, though. Are there more of them I could run if I got them working? Or is this all of them?
majority of daps downloaded separately: http://hl2-beta.ru/download.php?view.21
There are about 1300 uncompiled maps in different stages of completion.
Use these setting for Hammer: http://hl2-beta.ru/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?57

I don't know if it is more moronic or ironic: Not sharing source and fixes you made for something that was illegally stolen and shared with everyone.
Episode 2 in the works guys
Well some people don't want their work spread around without credit. I ran into that when I made a leak model pack, it was hard to figure out who the original authors were, as people had re-released the models without credit to the original authors.
For the record, I do not support the hiding of files, I just find it sad how the community is like this.
So, do I run Hl2.exe or hl2_run.bat? The .Exe just gives me a black screen that I can't exit out of.

That's one of the biggest reasons why I don't want to release anything. There are a shit load of morons in this community that steals models, maps etc. from Missing Information and thinks that's alright because its stolen in the first place.
We do not own the content, but we spend time on fixing it up, and that wasn't an easy job when Missing Information was first released. We had 3ds Max 6 with the MDL importer like everyone else.
There are a lot of people that feels entitled to our content and updates (see comments on our moddb page). There seems to be this notion that we do this for their sake.
Everything that's been done with Team GabeN and Missing Information has been for our sake, and because we like doing it. We are not doing it for fame or to please some dumb fucking kid that feels we owe him to finish whatever. Fuck off already.
Edit:
Excellent post to prove my point.

It's always a shame that the worst of a community bring down everyone, but I understand where you're coming from, people are really ungrateful and like to just take what ever they find and re release and say they made this. If I every got into the modding scene I would hope that people would give credit too.
You can't avoid it. If is easy to steal something from MI/GabeN/other leak mods, is because these content is rarely known, and not many people heard about it before.
Is like when someone ports a model from someone and says that he did it. Closing the cooperation and the sharing with the world is what it made came with the actual situation.
That post at the beta deathmatch thread shows clearly this point: He didn't knew it, because there is a lack of information about this whole topic.
can someone explain to me why does the HL2 beta engine suport 16:9 resolutions and the orange box engine doesn't
can someone explain to me why does the HL2 beta engine suport 16:9 resolutions and the orange box engine doesn't
im like 80% sure orange box supported 16:9
oh, it's becouse it's not the orginal engine, just some hack
nvm
So, do I run Hl2.exe or hl2_run.bat? The .Exe just gives me a black screen that I can't exit out of.
HL2.exe is the right one, just give it some time. The first time I ran an Axel Project beta it took over 10 minutes for it to get past that screen.
some old games support your resolution as it scans for available resolutions
im like 80% sure orange box supported 16:9
Well, it doesn't for me
Both Dystopia and Black Mesa Source have that ugly black bars on the sides on the screen even though they are set on the highest resolution possible
Hey guys, what about the Roller Wand?

Why does it concern you in the first place? If you make everything open, if you act more friendly, then there is no really a point in stealing anything. And if someone does, you can, at any time, just show, if needed, that 'we have been there first; see the dates, that's our stuff, this has been posted here first', and people will support you, they will like you. To me it looks less of a headache than having a tight grip on all your stuff and then you may or may not prove that something has been stolen (e.g. someone takes your model, changes some anims or puts a mesh through tesselation, and there you go - how do you prove it was yours?). Besides, if you let sources out in the open it becomes so much easier for others to take your stuff, use it as a basis and give you the credits than finding a model somewhere and using it without even knowing.
Too bad I don't know how to create tools, 'cause I'd definitely make them open source for all to use. I'd certainly gain more in this way. Right now I can only do this with my maps, source code.
edit
Also, it isn't always a sign of bad intentions when someone's using your content. E.g. when I first started doing all the beta stuff, I didn't even speak English and I didn't search outside Runet. I'd use anything I can find and I won't be able to give any credit, because I'd simple not know who made the stuff. Now, there are certain other types of people and exemplars for each in Beta community. Some disregard giving the credit. Some would envy you. Some would do it just to oppose you as you try to keep the rights on your content. And by making things open-source, you leave them unarmed. It's kind of a paradoxal defense when you strength comes from your openness.

are you sure your monitor isnt a 16:10?
Hey guys, what about the Roller Wand?
What about it? It's fun (and easy) to fix and roll a mine on your maps, it's kinda cute actually. Good for puzzles I'd say.

I kinda wanted to know how it works.
I kinda wanted to know how it works.
In-game or in-code? Basically you just attack1'ing on a floor where you want a rollermine (npc_rollerbuddy) to roll over to, and it rolls there with cute beeping and buzzing. IIRC, attack2'ing makes the mine roll back to you but its reverse pathfinding might be tweaky.
