Half-life 2 Cut Content - Is it me or dose the cut content look better than what we got?
Hey guys, what do you think about having two dropships in the game?
I love this old concept and I want to modify the dropship container while using a re-skinned retail synth dropship to look like the one in this concept:

Was a model ever made for this one? I know one was made for the red alien one.
(more in this style rather then the retail version)

Nope, only the retail one

Late, I know but I just wanted to make people aware that I'm moving all that stuff over here instead. I also uploaded the other decompilers that were linked a little earlier in this thread too in-case those links go down or whatever.

Thought I'd give the Samuel model a boost. WIP. It's a real shame the model looks like ass, had to add in bands of vertices to the mesh just so it would rig correctly.

But I also love the older alien dropship:

I could probably use both of them if one was used for troop transport and the other was used for cargo transport or transport of some other kind.
What do you think?
So what should each one be used for?
Samuel..... are you ok???

Maybe use the bulkier one for carrying APCs etc and the other for troops.
Has anybody tried to recreate C17_citizen_minimal.mdl? From the locations it appears in we can guess it's supposed to be one of these guys:

Insolence had one at one point. I don't remember exactly how it got there. I'll have to dig around a bit and find out where it went.
I had a go at using them in a map a few months ago.

The Industrial map I was working on was set aside, and I do plan to revisit the project, but I'm thinking that a fresh start may be better than building off of maps that have been around for over a decade now.

So I've been away from caring too much about the beta for more than a few years now, so I gotta ask
is there an actual project going on right now that's actually working on stuff and making progress, because that statement right there really gives me hope.

Insolence is in a sort-of limbo, Terminus is in development, I think Dark Interval is still going despite the moddb page being archived.
Alpha Retaliation is a newer mod, along with some others. I've been porting leak stuff for retail for the last few weeks. There was a big gmod SWEP pack of leak stuff on the workshop a few months back. There's been some other activity too as of late.

Let's just say I've been working on something on and off since 2009. It's always been a side-project that's remained unannounced and I'm trying to do it correctly by making design docs etc. I'm trying to give it real direction which most leak mods seem to lack.
That's at least why I keep bouncing around ideas. The stuff I bring up and talk about is generally for my own purposes. I'm taking notes and making decisions for gameplay mechanics and design considerations based on the feedback that people have been giving. Fitting concepts into gameplay and finding purpose for everything basically.

We have one for Missing Information, and I know Dark Interval got one as well.

i saw that in another thread but i thought it was just someone trying to be funny and not succeeding
I remember there was something about a 2002 shotgun. People said it was position differently and had orange light in the iron sights, like in the E3 2003 trailer. Anyone made/recovered that?
While most content in the leak is perfected in the final, the beta shotgun sounds are among the only things that shouldn't have changed imo. It sounds more powerful and bamtastic in the leak than the weak and plastic feel in the final.

I think there's a v_shotgun_dx7 model in the game files, but it lacks the textures.
First off we got this one, which seems to have been kept fairly recent because it appeared in the Prima Strategy guide I once had:

next we have the one in the e3 2003 trailer

and then, there is the one that was on the half-life 2 original box art:

The shotgun seemed a little fatter too, though that may just be the repositioning.

Interesting, the final Shotgun is definitely fatter than leak. I guess that's one of the reasons it felt weak.
The one on the original box art seems to be the same as the one in the e3 2003 trailer. It's possible that the trailer was either made in 2002 or was using 2002 assets. It seems that the 2002 shotgun is lower poly and less detailed than the leak. Also, if you look properly, the shotgun on the box art is the 2002 shotgun because it's still using the orange lighted iron sights with nearly the same positioning as the one in the e3 2003 trailer.
Say, what level is that on the original box art anyway? Seems like a coast level, but I don't recall anything like that. Seeing as how the 2002 shotgun is still there, it's possible that it's a Coast to Borealis docks level or something. If that's the case, it means that 2002 shotgun may be the first shotgun model in HL2.
By the way, which one came first: Gordon starting the game by Borealis or by train with Samuel? Wiki said that proto_docks with the clamp citadel was from the first concept when Freeman was to start in Borealis, but then wasn't the organic Citadel the one used in the earliest concepts? When was proto_docks last modified?
Another thing, it looks like all Citadels prior to the pre-release version (maybe Clamp too, if proto_docks was last modified after 2002) belonged to American style C17. This means that Palace was made to be in American C17 to replace the old Vertigo for whatever reason, and changing a lot of the Street War section. This sort of explains why there's gas mask citizens in the E3_Strider screenshot, which may have been took in 2002 before the AirEx is scrapped. No idea about how far Captain Vance survived in development (although sexy bodysuit Alyx with Eli as dad seen in 2003 might mean that Vance is cut after Vertigo is cut. But then what about the Conscripts in AirEx? Aargh). The supporting evidence for this is this concept art featuring what seems to be the Palace on the top left, in the midst of American style skyscrapers:

Compare with:

From that, can anyone determine the date when American style is abandoned and the Eastern European style started; and when did the old 4 days story cut into 3 days? I guess it's possible to have the Borealis/Kraken Base levels without needing AirEx, which may be why Borealis is featured in e3 2003 screenshots and C17 having the post-gas mask citizens. Also, how come Samuel's model doesn't come with a gas mask head model despite having one at a point in time?
There's still a texture file for the e3 2003 shotgun in the leak files:

So this is being posted here first for the core community, my cannon (The one used in Alpha: Retaliation) is set in the 80's for the sake of consistency, having the invasion take place in 1973. This is only so all the old-tymey city designs of Washington and the cars from the 70's actually make sense.
Didn't the OICW program begin in the mid to late 90s though?
Didn't the OICW program begin in the mid to late 90s though?
I'm imagining two options.
1: Fuck history and just make some grease-gun-like replacement
2: Assume that the combine would've probably made something similar, they make assault-rifles and sniper-rifles, right?
On the subject of weapons, confirming with the plot device of the combine using human materials, I'm throwing around the idea of an Ithaca replacing the leak SG everyone seems to have a boner over. 1911's, M16's and so on. I want to figure out how to make the combine use human materials "Cleanly" as in "I don't want the CS's looking like raiders from Fallout 3" And I also don't want them looking like generic US-Army soldiers, thus granting the idea that they must manufacture SOMETHING with all that crap they took from earth, just to make them stand out enough from the earth forces not to look generic, but simultaneously to look recycled. It's a very deep rabbit-hole indeed.

This creating another problem "Oh my fucking god not another generic ass arsenal"
So I was thinking the combine might augment these weapons to make them different from every single FPS arsenal ever made.
Edit: Fuck that's a lot of words, sorry
Make the combine carry muskets around.
There's concept art of a soldier holding what's supposed to be an M16A1, and given the rough geographical location that HL2's supposed to be set in and the time frame that the Black Mesa incident and the portal storms happened in, it'd make sense to see a mix of stuff like AKMs/AK-74s and M16A1/A2s since there would be large amounts of weapons like that readily available. Even if the US did pull their troops out of europe when the portal storms happened, they'd still likely leave a lot of rifles and equipment behind.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about where and when HL1 and HL2 are supposed to take place and what kind of weapons and equipment might be logically still around in HL2 based on that, just for fun.
And if you go with the assumption that HL1 takes place in the very late 90s or early 2000s, most modern day military equipment just straight up doesn't exist. No multicam, no plate carriers, no SCARs or HK416es. It would be great.

If it's taking place in the 1980s and set in the US, you're coming straight out of the Vietnam War. Your best and most logical bet would probably be just to give all the Combine soldiers M16A1s with some M14s mixed in. The A2 was developed in the early 1980s, and they're probably not going to be continuing development and manufacturing enough to outfit an army whilst creatures from Xen are busy trying to eat everyone.
Maybe throw in some carbine versions of the A1 like the M653, XM177E2, and maybe the USAF's GAU-5/A taken from airbases.
There's enough civilian shotguns like the Ithaca 37 and Remington M870 to probably outfit an army with, so either of those is a decent choice. As for pistols, the 1911 is maybe a bit of a boring choice but they're popular as hell so there's likely to be plenty around for both the Combine and the resistance. Other pistols like revolvers might be cool too, just to mix things up a bit, though if you're actually making a HL2 mod out of it then it might be redundant to add several pistols with similar stats.
Rebels in that kind of setting would likely have access to all sorts of hunting rifles and maybe assorted milsurp from WW2/Korea.
