IDK, Why but when you said lamarr i'm thinking of a headcrab attach to a houndeye.
Eh? Larry and Lamarr...wait, that would mean the hound-eye would look like it has an actual head!
So umm....
What's everyone's favorite removed content?

I can imagine Gordon walking a Houndeye...
But then... How would one put a leach on those things?

The rooftop warfare
It's in HL2 a lil' bit, but not as high up and on a smaller scale

I've always had a thing for high up combat in games, such as rooftops. It's really saddening to me that they removed the rooftops levels.
I suddenly remember the High Rise level in counter strike Condition zero: Deleted scenes.
[editline]22nd March 2013[/editline]
Also, I would have loved to see these

It'd be kickass, high speed canal chase, metrocops or overwatch soldiers chasing you down, alyx gunning 'em down with the rear turret...

Something similar to that actually exists in the leak.

That was going to be used instead of the airboat, but it was removed because one of the playtesters kept getting severe motion sickness and puked all over the keyboard.
Damn playtesters.
Please someone explain to me how do you get motion sickness from a game?
- Edit the explain to me how i become a player tester for valve?
Some experiences disorient people, and games are no exception.
Anyone remember the reason they added the roll cage to the air boat? it was mentioned in raising the bar. I think it may have also been because of motion sickness.

Depending on the game and what they need you can just call up if you live in the area. Shortly before Portal 2's release bunch of people got to play test it like that.
I get motion sickness from games that have strong view bob. I wish they would let you disable that.
It's also the reason Mirror's Edge gives you an optional dot on your screen, it reduces the chance of motion sickness by giving you something to focus on.

being a playtester isn't some glorious job
I'd imagine it pays shit, and it's not as fun as you'd think.
you're not playing through the game and documenting any bugs you happened to stumble upon, you are replaying one level over and over and over documenting every single thing in that map and every bug.
the only cool part about it would be seeing unreleased games, but I still don't think it's worth it.

It pays $0 per hour.
And at VALVe, you just play segments of the game, and then you're dismissed.
And its the job of the level designer to observe the playtester, and see if there are any bugs.

oh
I guess I was wrong, but I am pretty sure I read something about playtesters not having that great of a job.
maybe valve is different, it wouldn't surprise me

That is the QA job, not the playtester.

People couldn't keep track of where they were on the speeder and the early airboat when looking around which caused them to get motion sickness, so they added the roll cage so people could keep track
I can't remember what made them replace the speeder with the airboat.

Yeah, I loved the segment in the leak where you blast through an apartment while really high up and the skyscraper gunfights.
But if the game is set in eastern europe, then no such buildings exist there :c
My favourite scrapped concept was the Air Exchange bit.

In terms of scrapped content, this picture:

I personally liked the whole grimmer feeling of City 17, with the factories, and the urban American east coast sort of setting.
The Half-Life 2 introductions went through two different versions before the final one. One version, proposed June 2, 2000 to the development team by Marc Laidlaw, has Gordon waking up in the midst of beautiful rolling hills, with a bright blue sky, singing birds, and a modern city below. Then the G-Man appears and the landscape starts to change to become the Combine-controlled City 17, with a wasteland around it, while G-Man does not talk much, preferring to show Gordon images instead of explaining in details. Then, Gordon climbs into a train and the people inside it starts moving.
Probly one of the reasons it was removed, they wanted a believable location but, buildings of that size and such would be difficult to find even in a heavily populated modern nation.

It was actually going to be just generic city #17.
The eastern Europe thing was decided on much later.
