• Half-life 2 Cut Content - Is it me or dose the cut content look better than what we got?

I hate the inconsistencies in the beta that don't seem to make sense to me. d1_canals_end implies the player was to go directly from the canals to ravenholm by having a barge open the way. d1_town_01 slightly supports this but says you came in from canals_02 (trying to go back crashes the game) but canals_02 goes to d1_under_03. Both d1_town_01 and d1_canals_02 were last saved 16/06/2003 (06/16/2003 for you americans) canals_end isn't anywhere in the mappack so I can't check the date, even if it was horribly outdated it still wouldn't make sense that town still had a transition in from canals_02 but canals_02 lacked a transition to town. Valve what the fuck
That's because the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 never occurred. You see, there never was a rocket launch at White Forest Inn, no destruction of the Citadel, no uprising in City 17, no Seven Hour War, nor even a Resonance Cascade. Oh, there was indeed a catastrophic event during the routine Anti-Mass Spectrometer analysis procedure on that fateful morning at Black Mesa, but Gordon didn't simply wake up hours later and single-handedly confront a cataclysmic quantum rift, a deadly government cover-up, and a full scale alien invasion. No, for you see, Gordon never woke up at all. Ever questioned how a mild-mannered scientist could become the leader of a massive rebellion and the planet's savior? Or wondered why all the central figures he meets in HL2 all happen to be his former colleagues? That's because Gordon created his own world in which he was the hero, his close friends and allies being comprised only of the people he knew (vaguely and otherwise) in his previous life. In reality, though, his actual circumstances are much different, for he resides as a vegetative patient in a rehabilitation facility under the constant care of doctors. Yet, Gordon continues to valiantly fight his battles, an everlasting struggle confined within his very mind. And that is the true story of Half-Life, a promising young scientist with his whole career ahead of him who lost half of his life to tragic, unforeseen consequences.
Mind = Blown For some reason i feel like i've been spoiled ep3/hl3 ending. What if "employers" which G-Man speaks of are actually "doctors" and G-Man is actually some sort of "program" for communicating with Gordon's subconsciousness ( which is put in some sort of simulation ), to tell gordon what to do next or/and pointing him what to do next, just like here @ 1:35 : But then what about Vortigaunts blocking G-Man from reaching Gordon at EP1 Beginning? Rouge programs? Simulation breaking up or some type of Gordon's world immersion breaking up? But then, what's the point of all this, just for human brain research? So much questions, so much potential... Thank you both Marphy and Jackathan, i thought i knew everything.
Mind = Blown
I'm pretty sure that's just a joke, just like most of the thing inside Marc Laidlaw's folder.
Complaining about such inconsistencies in the leaked build is kinda... not smart, considering all maps are heavy WIP, all of them are at different stage of completion and different chapters were worked on by different people.
I understand that but it doesn't make it any less annoying.
I'm pretty sure that's just a joke, just like most of the thing inside Marc Laidlaw's folder.
Hype cured, my appreciation for this. But where did Marphy took that text/theory from?
also I would have thought that despite different people worked on different maps they would have at least some idea of what level transitioned where. [editline]20th October 2014[/editline] fuck my merge
also I would have thought that despite different people worked on different maps they would have at least some idea of what level transitioned where. [editline]20th October 2014[/editline] fuck my merge
They were not even intending to create proper level transitions until later in development. Look at the other maps, aside from Train Station and Canals, none of the chapters are connected with each other and some of the existing transitions don't make any sense. Although, to be fair, there's a version of d1_canals_02 in WC mappack which has a transition to d1_town_01.
Hype cured, my appreciation for this. But where did Marphy took that text/theory from?
Well, from the general feel of the hazard course maps, that texture, and basically just like every other "it is all just a coma" theory. By the way, it seems that they really planned on G-Man being the Black Mesa Administrator until late in HL2 development when they switched to final Breen. I wonder how they're gonna explain his supernatural abilities though. [del]He is actually the game engine itself![/del]
By the way, it seems that they really planned on G-Man being the Black Mesa Administrator
Really it doesn't. Or at least I completelly miss how it does. _______ Why is so many Russians here lately?

What would the best beta client be at this time? I used to have a dvd of one that had a lot of map content, but it was lost and the torrent got deleted. It had an install menu and everything. Also, wasn't the beta sold once in Russia?
Laidlaw himself stated point blank that the G-Man is the Administrator: http://pcgamer.ign.com/interviews/mlaidlaw.shtml
More like 'since we don't know who G-man is, one could assume he's the administrator, or the classified sponsor, or whoever'. Doesn't actually say that they intended him to actually be the administrator; they wrote him so that it would be open for player speculation. Or do you now say that G-man is also the sponsor, and that Gman = the Admin and Gman = the Sponsor hence the Administrator = the Sponsor? That's nonsense which is why you shouldn't take his words so literally. And that goes for a lot of his replies really. Anyhow, I was initially replying to PikaCommando thinking he got the idea of Gman being planned for the Administrator role from the leak content.
"Here" as in in this thread. There's quite a few mods, patches and maps for it, though. 2) Yes, it was. Although I can't confirm it personally, as I didn't even know about the existence of Half-Life back in 2003.

Maybe Archer or Flocking Floater? Also, is this an actual enemy or just a test showcase model like the Zentraedi Battle Pod?
I think it was intended to be an actual enemy since the animation names imply it would have an actual purpose.
(06/16/2003 for you americans)
I don't see what the point of this was, there aren't 16 months or 2003 anything other than years.
Working on the sewer system that connects the trainstation to industrial zone (e3_industrial). It's based on some drawings made by me.

Ruined area I might be adding to my hazard remake: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/PW1bDXL.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Ez7k0iB.jpg[/img_thumb]
Its in the /scripted/ material folder

I didn't quite understand the room with the generator either. Why was it there, and what did the button do?
"Here" as in in this thread. You can now spot more of the Russian tricolor flag icons than ever.
Because HL2 leak was sold at pirate shops as full game, I presume :v:
