This is perfect. Thank you so much for providing a steam client that functions on Windows 98.

I have methods.
I have methods.
You're ruining the spirit of Windows '98.
Hmmm....maybe I can start trading at school... Now. I hope for an App that can allow me to do this from my phone. I WOULD BE UNSTOPPABLE!!!
Alright. So people (albeit very few) have been saying that is a scam/fraud, that will hack into your account. I, for some reason, feel particularly ballsy today, so I'm just going to jump into this program. Decided to check some of the source code out, all of them seem legit. But considering I've only checked some, that probably won't matter much in determining whether it's good or not. As to a bit of surprise, it went smoothly, so far. Though, I wasn't able to test it properly, due to Steam being offline for some apparent reason. I assume I'm not meant to have both Steam and Mist on... [t]http://puu.sh/2kg69[/t] Also, what bugs me is that there are a lack of Tags in the program (as there is such a thing in the friends list), as well as the lack of nicknames. I suggest adding those to Mist, but other than that, I don't see any particular problem with it! So for those of you who constantly ramble on about how this will steal your account, stop whining.
We all agree that steam has alot of clutter and nonsense and is kind of a hog... Any special info if this tool works in sandboxie? Haven't tried the client (still waiting for Valve's statement email on this), but I'm really interested later on, to trade crap from idle accounts to main account. P.S. Can you also look into or implement a feature to save chat text to a log or something? For people using this tool to do trades...

So you cant use them as steam alternative, for now :C.
I don't think nicknames are synced to the steam servers so he can't fetch those.
Then the steam community chat shouldn't be able to do this?
Then the steam community chat shouldn't be able to do this?
Steam mobile doesn't show nicknames, sadly.
Steam mobile doesn't show nicknames, sadly.
That's an issue with Mobile itself.
Then the steam community chat shouldn't be able to do this?
Derp
this might be redundant, but is it possible to use this without entering password etc if there is a steam already logged in? sometimes i might want to use this in case steam not responding (well not sometime i think, everytime)
No sorry, that's not possible. I can't interface with the actual Steam client.
The people that don't read/understand the OP are getting annoying. Good project, I've been in situations where using steam was not an option. Having the sourcecode for this might come in handy for a project I've been thinking about.
Glad you can find some use for it :) I've been making small fixes to Mist on GitHub, so (to all of you) if you can't wait for the next release you can always compile the latest version from Git.
I'd love a trading interface for Mobilephones.
Me too, but that's not possible for me to do in the current situation. iOS, Android, Windows Phone are don't use C#, and while there is MonoTouch and MonoForAndroid which allows C# to be used, they don't support protobuf-net which Mist uses to parse messages from Steam's servers.
This is perfect. Thank you so much for providing a steam client that functions on Windows 98.
Whoa, you just made my day with your post! Haha. May I ask how that was possible, and if it was hard to get running? I'd like to add Win98 to the list of supported computers, but won't if it's too hard to get working.
Also, what bugs me is that there are a lack of Tags in the program (as there is such a thing in the friends list), as well as the lack of nicknames. I believe tags and nicknames are retrievable, so I'll look into those.
Any special info if this tool works in sandboxie? [...] P.S. Can you also look into or implement a feature to save chat text to a log or something? For people using this tool to do trades...
I don't see why it shouldn't run in Sandboxie. And I'll definitely look into saving chat text to a log. [editline]19th March 2013[/editline]
You can just make many seperate folders and they should all work propertly, you dont need an sandbox. Just remember they can only trade/chat. So you cant use them as steam alternative, for now :C.
The next version won't need separate folders - good news :) Just a reminder for you all: Please post feature suggestions and bugs on GitHub (https://github.com/waylaidwanderer/Mist/issues?state=open) so that I can mark when feature requests are completed and bugs are fixed.
Now if only something like this could be implemented on iOS or Android, I would be a happy camper.
I wish, but that's not possible for me to do in the current situation. iOS, Android, Windows Phone are don't use C#, and while there is MonoTouch and MonoForAndroid which allows C# to be used, they don't support protobuf-net which Mist uses to parse messages from Steam's servers.
Oh my god I love you. I can finally transfer all the stuff off my alt without having my friend use my account or needing Sandboxie <3 I can't stop throwing money at my screen
I could use this for my idling farm.
How hard would it be to make this launch a textmode tf2? you know why.
Oh my god I love you. The next version of Mist will be able to run multiple copies from the same folder as well.
I can just chuck an installed Steam (without the steamapps folder) onto a 4gb USB and use that instead. Not to say that your program isn't neat, but I don't trust anybody with my steam details, especially not a program from someone I don't know.
You need to have the steam client service installed onto the actual computer, and it'd trigger steam guard on every computer change AFAIK Does the application work even if the normal steam ports are blocked?
-google chrome was nice enough to make me post twice. isnt that nice-
You need to have the steam client service installed onto the actual computer, and it'd trigger steam guard on every computer change AFAIK Does the application work even if the normal steam ports are blocked?
I'm not actually sure because I haven't tested it. Everything is sent via encrypted HTTP to the Steam API, but I believe (and hopefully I'm not incorrect) it should work.
How hard would it be to make this launch a textmode tf2? you know why.
I could make it launch TF2 via Steam, which would disconnect Mist from the current Steam session. However I'm not going to support launching TF2 natively because Valve wouldn't like it. [editline]19th March 2013[/editline] Update: I'm adding icons to the backpack viewer. Default window size: Maximized window: What do you guys think?
This looks awesome! Would I be able to use this at school, where steam is typically blocked?
This looks awesome! Would I be able to use this at school, where steam is typically blocked?
good question
I would love it if you made an Android version of this the steam app for android blows
This looks awesome! Would I be able to use this at school, where steam is typically blocked?
Depends on how Steam is blocked. If they're blocking all requests to steamcommunity.com or steampowered.com then I doubt this will work on your school network.
Great, absolutely ingenius. I told myself if I ever was to learn programming, I would make a lightweight trader.
Well, I installed .net framework quite a while ago and modified the registry files and certain calls until it worked. I suppose you can make this 'actually' work if you rewrite it in cpp or c, but I don't really see the pressure to do so since I am the only person I know who uses Windows 98 still.
