Great thread. I'm really getting into retro consoles/games lately. Just bought myself a Sega Dreamcast and Atari Jaguar. Which the latter should arrive tomorrow. My little collection at the moment only consists of a Dreamcast, Xbox, PS2, PSX, and a PS1 (small model). Keep this thread bumped!
If I play a recent Need for Speed game, I instantly hate it. But go back and play Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on the PS1, love it. Same with Castlevania, Mario, everything. New ain't got nothing on old.
I feel left out because I was raised a PC Gamer. :smith:
I grew up with the mega drive, ps1 and gamecube and around 2001 my dad got a PC with UT99 on it, i spent ages on that thing, we had a massive 21" CRT monitor with a MASSIVE RESOLUTION OF 1280 X 1204, my god that thing was brilliant, we had the CRT up until 2009 after sitting in the downstairs bathroom for 5 years my mum threw it.
I grew up with an original Gameboy (and even a copy of Tetris that came with it when it was bought new so long ago!), Gameboy Color, an N64 and a Sega Game Gear that's still laying around somewhere, with like, every Sonic game that ever existed on it. TBH Sonic Chaos was my favorite of them all. Fuck Sonic 2, hard as balls game. Though the most unique, because it's one of the only Sonic games that did NOT start out on a tropical island/nature setting of some sort. Didn't have too many games, but now I own way more including two SNES consoles. One died so that's where the other came in. Recently I came across my old copy of Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, so many memories

Heh, 64 posts, like the Nintendo 64, geddit? Well, until I posted.
I have the original box with my copy of Goldeneye, I dunno where the booklet went though. :(
Wow, that actually looks pretty good. Also bidding on a Spectrum, how would it rate against other computers from that era?
Poor. High resolution graphics, but a low colour pallete and crap sound. I've never liked Sinclair computers.
Is it really as bad as they say it is?
I have it too, and yes, it is as bad as it sounds. I even had the instruction manual for it and that changed nothing. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING. That game deserves all the shit it has recieved, believe me. Right now I have an Atari 2600 and all 3 types of gameboys (original, pocket, color). Over the course of my life however, I have owned: NES, Sega Master System (goes under a lot of different names), SNES, Sega Genesis (no Sega CD though lol), Sega Saturn (I bet not a single one of you owned or can now find this one), Virtual Boy (lol shitty 3d headaches), Playstation (all 3), N64, X-Box (both), Gamecube, and a Wii. I think the only major one I missed was the Dreamcast.
Sega Saturn (I bet not a single one of you owned or can now find this one)
Saturns aren't too difficult to find, there's always a few going for around £15-£40 on ebay.
I have a PS2 emulator
NES N64 Mega Drive Dreamcast
The favorites in my collection are my PC Engine Duo R, Sega Saturn, and Neo Geo Pocket. Anyone else have a PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16? They're such awesome little machines. Amazing capabilities for something out of 1987. If you're looking for something a little different I suggest picking one up.

Speaking of atari, my neighbours little daughter actually found a way to cheat it... It's actually a pyjama that is white and has black points on it, so when she pulls the trigger, weapon acted like it was bullseye, cool beanz man. :eng101: next generation is smart, no matter how hard they try to dumb them down with Justin Bieber.

You should be able to even get the games for pretty cheap.
I, like many I know, still consider the SNES to be the greatest console in gameing. As far as obscurities go, I've got an old TG-16 and a a stack of games, though it's getting testy in its old age. Could probably do with some new hookups as my older brother and father weren't especially kind to it.
So on the subject of Turbo Grafx's, would anyone with experience say that it's better or worse than the Atari Jaguar?
Found a Mega Drive 2 with NBA Jam and a Dreamcast with Ecco The Dolphin at a car boot the other day. Each had two controllers and are in full working order for just £6.
So on the subject of Turbo Grafx's, would anyone with experience say that it's better or worse than the Atari Jaguar?
This is kind of hard to answer. I would say that the TG has more quality games than the Jag, but most of the games weren't brought to the West due to some bullshit Nintendo pulled back in the day to keep devs from releasing games on anything except the NES. To make this worse, NTSC-U and PAL systems use a different pinout than the Japanese systems, so you need to buy a converter (which are pretty elusive and expensive) or build one. However, Japanese CD games will play on NTSC-U or PAL systems and vice versa. Were you considering buying a CD add on also?

The consoles I've found come with everything needed to set it up in the UK and Europe though, so I guess I'm pretty lucky.
This is my current "retro" gaming set up. I also have a video I uploaded where I go through and just talk for a minute about each console I own.

Half Life was on the dreamcast?
It is a 3rd party replacement shell. Towards the end of the Dreamcast's retail life, the net was full of them.
Half Life was on the dreamcast?
It was finished but never released (due to the system dying and Sony wanting HL for the PS2), years later it was leaked onto the internet as a selfbootable image. Fun Fact: Blue shift was originally a Dreamcast exclusive, created specifically for the console. When the project was cancelled it was later ported the the PC.
And the loading times are atrociously long and you pretty much require a seperate VMU for your savegames. Besides the HD textures there's nothing really too good about it.

The same is with the PS2 version, long loading screens, sloppy controls, you end up having to use a keyboard and mouse, might as well use the PC version.
this is my little collection. we bought these all new when they came out thanks to my uncle who worked at a electronic store. i know its nothing before the NES but its something i guess
It's not oldschool gaming without a CRT television in a wooden wall unit.
Just under a day left on my Spectrum and I'm still the highest bidder, weeeeee.
