Nabbed it from the web and just played with it, it's a concept is all it is
Nice start, but I reckon it would be best to just take a look at a bunch of existing logos for horror games and try to discern a pattern
[t]http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/57300/header.jpg?t=1417769927[/t] [t]http://images.jayisgames.com/penumbra-b.jpg[/t] [t]http://www.justpushstart.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Outlast4.jpg[/t] [t]http://shinyidol.us/content/images/2014/Mar/condemned.jpg[/t]
Amnesia - flaky, hazy text - forgetfulness/eldritch
Penumbra - sticky, unnatural text, faint penumbra outline - disease, abnormality, the obscured
Outlast - splatter/blurred light noise overlay on text - crime scene, UV light, found footage, obscured
Condemned - scratchy text, blood splatter - mental asylum, BLOOD
Pretty straightforward analysis, but you start to see what they were trying to achieve with their logos. All are obfuscated in some way, creating a sense of unease and mystery (the soul of horror)
The 'storm on the surface' and 'quiet oblivion below' might be a cool visual contrast to play with. Some blurring like the Outlast logo could suggest the misty deep sea as well
Narcosis and SOMA look to be your closest competitors, Narcosis is going for VR and SOMA has some interesting sci-fi stuff going on, you're obviously doing a different type of gameplay but you might want to consider how you could differentiate yourselves even further
In general, cool! I've been wanting more deep sea themed games

Just dicking about in PS
video for released track, since I hate soundcloud's mp3 compression

Damn, I don't know what it is, but I love this.
It reminds me heavily of the themes from Star Control: The Ur-Quan Masters, an old top-down space exploration game from 1993.
Happy Birthday to me, here's my birthday gift to you all.
I made you some food.

The Biscuit/cracker box is not finished yet, obviously. These are just some props for the galley of the Habitat.
What engine are you guys using? UE4? Unity? Something custom?
Are you using PBR too? It'd look fucking sexy in a game like this.

UE4 with PBR would look fuckin' incredible.

We're leaning towards using Source and then porting it over to Source2, since that's what our devs are most familiar with. Not sure if Source2 can do PBR.
Here's a piece of music that I think might help in inspirations, it really fit the 'deep sea' setting quite well.

This looks really friggin cool and the soundtrack TCB is putting together sounds amazing already. Are you guys looking for any particular positions at the moment? This project certainly caught my attention.
thanks, what can you offer? you're best off speaking to ryu-gi
speaking of the soundtrack, here's a tease of a couple of ambient tracks you'll likely hear in-game

How much Lovecraft are you planning on shoving into this game? I need my eldrich horror fix or else I'll be able to sleep at night.
I'm kind of interested in this. It's a nightmare version of subnautica (which is great, btw.)
Loving this so far! Keep up the amazing work!
Never played FNAF before, but this looks like it might be pretty neat. You could make some Lovecraft books and hide them around the station as an easteregg, and if you find them all you unlock something. Something like that maybe.

Though to be fair, if this was actual eldrich horror you would never be able to sleep again. Still, agreed, the deepsea needs at least some kind of lovecraftian reference, no matter how small.

Read the books, learn of the legend, see more fucked up shit that may or may not be there. Read all the books over the course of each day, and earn a secret ending [sp]where you end up summoning Cthulhu itself and go mad.[/sp]

Having books or other easter eggs lying around that unlock something scary when they're all found would be awesome.
Our team is now communicating via a realtime whiteboard, it's really helpful. The story is also heavily evolving as we come up with new ideas, some of which I think will be really surprising!
Also, our team is currently in need of programmers and animators. Please send me a PM if you're interested.
Also, some of the monsters and what they'll be able to do, man...I can't wait to see the reaction on people's faces when they see some of em for the 1st time...
are the sea monsters gonna roar/make noises? i can try to make up some spooky sounds if you want
I'm creating the sounds with real-world recording and ambient stuff like whale song and various deep sea noises
got a couple of photographers going down to the local beach during the week to record underwater so hopefully we'll get some good sounds with the footage
We've been collecting a lot of existing photos and pictures for inspiration. I'll post one every once in awhile to get folk's imaginations running on the sort of things we'll be putting into Thalassophobia. (Without giving away too much on the surprises, of course.)

Did Ryu-Gi get permabanned or something?
Ah okay, just wondering if this thread would ever see dev updates again. Thanks for the info!

If Ryu was unable to post I'm sure another dev would've filled in for him
there are now different platforms to follow the game's progress, there's:

Twitter (thalassophobia0)
Tumblr (thalassophobiagame)
this thread will continued to be updated, of course
[editline]21st September 2015[/editline]
none of which have a huge amount of content at the moment, it'll just be a better way to keep up to date
Reblogged some stuff
Do you guys have an engine you are using yet? If you are using Unity, I'd be willing to help for a cut if it's reasonable. I'm a programmer with some modeling skills.
at the moment we're working with unreal engine 4, but it might be a good idea for you to add ryu-gi on steam to speak
Oh okay. I'll try doing that. If you do switch to Unity, I will likely be able to help.
Also, it says his profile could not be found when I try adding him on Steam by clicking his Steam account under his FP avatar.

Here's a correct profile link: http://steamcommunity.com/id/RyuGi/
Hey everyone, I'm back. Wanted to share a few fun details.
1) We are planning on releasing official Gmod and SFM addons containing props and models from the game after its released.
2) The Cascade II is located in the North Atlantic Ocean
3) The name of our player's character is Dr. Pearson
4) Our goal is to have a working prototype before the end of the year so that we have proper gameplay footage to show off when we start our Kickstarter Campaign!
5) We are considering investing in the purchase or construction of a waterphone for additional sound effects! Chances are you've heard this unusual and unique-sounding instrument in various movies in the past; it's that haunting, shimmering, watery, metallic sound often accompanying horror.
