There are so many games about that are all about space exploitation and/or shop building but none of them come close to hazeron.
The whole idea of starting from fuck all, working your way to a city and then space is totally unique to Hazeron..
Is there no way of anyone hosting a server of kinds or is that forever locked away with Haxxus and his source code?
its locked away permanently. I hope Ikkir can lobby him to release it and make it open source, open source has done really well lately and I'd think it would be really neat
heres to hoping!
Imagine it being open source. You could:
1: shrink the universe the fuck down because it's too big for the amount of players
2: optimize the everloving shit out of it.
3: make it prettier
4: all while keeping it run smoothly
5: unfuck collisions

you can do way more obviously, but this going open source would be great.
Haxus might get butthurt though because he doesn't want to give his "masterpiece" away and see it get transformed into something he did not manage to do.
Open source code might be good for development, but who's going to run the servers?
Open source code might be good for development, but who's going to run the servers?
If it's true what Haxus said about it costing him thousands to run the servers, then I don't envy whoever picks up that task again.
But on the other hand, i'm wondering how the hell he managed to spend that much hosting maybe 30-60 people at any given time. It's either bollocks from that admin friend of his, or Hazeron is way more unoptimised than anyone could've guessed.

hazeron is extremely unoptimised. hosting it would be impossible unless you had someone who was willing to dump tens of thousands of dollars into something barely anyone would get to play.
Lord Haggis of the Fredomian Star Empire mourns the loss of Shores of Hazeron.
There's nothing remotely comparable with SOH! What the heck am I supposed to play now?! Damn you, Haxus! :suicide:

Did you ever see the server center Haxus showed on the website? IIRC, he had an entire room full of machines to just run Hazeron.

I think only a few of the lockers were his.
By the sounds of things, it's a miracle this game even run in the first place.
He's just being a dick, if it goes open source he'll still be credited with creating it in the first place.
That being said, if he's as much a dick as people make him out to be then I doubt he'd ever give the source code away.
the greatest thing about open source is that it allows specialists really good at one aspect of programming or asset making etc to work on the game instead of haxus kludging everything togethr
First he makes me addicted, then he takes it all away in 60 seconds! COLD TURKEY!!!
Same here...
I'm searching since 5 days for alternatives...
Nothing nearly that immense...
I think i will quit playing games for some while until there is something comparable at the horizon.

You aren't going to be playing games for a loooooonnnnnnnggggg while then buddy.
http://www.hazeron.com/ looks like its not over with yet.
OMG a light at the horizon...

Looks promising. I hope he actually sources his jobs instead of trying to tackle everything by himself though.
damnit haxus make up your mind

I hope he wipes the universe and makes it smaller this time around.
Excellent, maybe I can set up my giant intelligence network after all.
An unexpected and welcome development. I hope he at least gets some help with working on it, continuing to go alone on it will probably just drive him further into madness.
It's probably going to be less of an empire-building game and more of an adventure/exploration game. That's what he's always wanted if you read the dev notes and manual. The empire-building game was only Phase 1, he just wanted a player-built universe to adventure in.
If it does come back.
Smaller universe.
Please
Smaller universe, and unreasonably large ships please.
HOPE!

Well, this is again an unexpected turn for something i thought was dead and buried. It will be most interesting to see what comes out of this "morphing". But i kinda hope he doesn't distill to much code out of good old Hazeron.
Edit:
My fear is hes removing something vital in Hazeron, example: like no more planet building at all, or something like that, but who knows.
Perhaps it will handle less shittily now
This is probably a chance to refactor the hell out of old code to make it more manageable. If indeed he does transfer over parts of the code base.
What will ainbenhartache if thats his right name, think of this development?. Was Haxus getting rid of him too?
Edit:
I wasn't on the forum when it went down, but i believe there was some (thread)rage there at the end.
I knew it, Haux couldn't release a working update after all! Hell has stopped freezing over!

It's probably going to become more like the mainstream shipbuilding games.. Damn I hope I'm wrong.
