It's probably gonna be single player. That'd reduce the server costs by a bit.
I kinda would like it if towns built themselves instead of us building them and it was more of an exploration vs empire building game.
I loved the idea of empire building. May have been awkward but it was certainly unique.
I kinda would like it if towns built themselves instead of us building them and it was more of an exploration vs empire building game.
City building's my favorite part of Shores, even with the annoying as hell citizen limit/jobs, the UI, having to build everything yourself and the lag :v: I'd love it if there was a Sim City-like game except you expanded to other planets.

I hope he invests some time in updating the look of his blog, too...
I know this might be expecting too much of haxus, but maybe that fateful day he woke up and looked at hazeron and realized "wow, this is really bad, and I can do better than this. I need to redo this." Stranger things have already happened (and then unhappened) but still. [editline]21st August 2014[/editline]
I hope he invests some time in updating the look of his blog, too...
are you real Best way to make him do something is to send him a letter, so good luck.
The code he built for systems, managing the servers, all that backend stuff, was done back in the late NINETIES (I think? It was a long time ago). Imagine how far programming practices have come and how much better he could if he started clean. I'm glad Ikkir was able to talk him into doing... something with it.

It would be nice to think that Haxus woke up one day and realised that Hazeron wasn't enough of a game to keep people playing and decided to streamline it, but Haxus gonna Haxus.
Is haxus gonna startup a kickstarter?
Is haxus gonna startup a kickstarter?
That would probably fail dramatically like an oil tanker made of bread.
people who don't know about hazeron will assume it's just a shitty as hell kickstarter, of some random game with horrible graphics. Kickstarter is not the way it's going to work as it stands now.
Honestly, although it would be kinda cruel, taking this game out of the hands of this Haxus would probably be better for the game than him continuing development. Better yet, with the talk about how old and unoptimised his code for the game is, wouldn't it be easier and more effective to start an open source clone from scratch rather than try and optimise his code? Gameplay can't be copyrighted.
This would be the first open source project which I would contribute for.
Yeah, make a Hazeron clone. I'll stand on the sideline and cheer for you! MY HERO! :v:
That would probably fail dramatically like an oil tanker made of bread.
Grand theft pizza delivery was a sucess, why would such a unique game fail?

Finding the right person... or team, would be a quest for the gods themselves... But gods be willing, I HOPE the succeed.
Most excellent speech. What we need, is a HERO!
Does anyone else remember when he hired a few developers, they worked for a few weeks, and then he fired them one by one? This man is incapable of working with others.

I don't think he worked out in his head if he wanted SoH to be a personal hobby or a game developed for the market though.
The thin with trying to clone it is, if it were so easy, why hasn't it been done already?
The thin with trying to clone it is, if it were so easy, why hasn't it been done already?
People who play computer games tend to be lazy.
Here's a link to the server grid that hosted Shores of Hazeron, for ppl who haven't seen them but would like to check them out. Shores of Hazeron Server Grid Info from the Wayback Machine. Behold, the Dimension I wonder where they are now, did Haxus rented them, or did he own them.
I remember him sounding like he owned them. Maybe he rented the space, and if that's the case they'll probably be stored somewhere in his house.
It's probably going to become more like the mainstream shipbuilding games.. Damn I hope I'm wrong.

It's probably gonna be single player. This would be like my worst nightmare. EDIT: FFS I cant embed this video, just click the link

Here is some new info, doesn't look to good, guess good old Hazeron is dead and buried after all :'( Anyway, it will probably be years before Haxus would decide to sniff on Hazeron again, if ever. Link to Bay12forums, Moghjubar is Ikkir. Hes basically going to be making Gravity Well 2, probably for tablets. Getting rid of most of the Hazeron stuff and just using ships and planets more or less. Some talk was involved about copying the GW model, drastic reduction of resources, multiplayer with multiple sectors and motherships... and depending on how the game goes, microtransactions of some sort. He also wants to, more or less, just get a game out there and get one done, probably a few games this way. He said he could potentially go back to doing Hazeron if he had some sort of actual income from all this, maybe even hiring some people if he had enough (that is, if he decided to ever go back to it at least). Would definitely be some simplification though.
Yeah it's not looking good I'm afraid, fears confirmed. I was under the impression that there were quite a lot of top down scifi tablet games in production - and I don't scifi is a big genre for tablets? I think it's unlikely it will be successful, which means it's unlikely we'll see a return to a (streamlined) Hazeron. I'll give haxus a phone next week and offer up a couple of us as testers anyway.
If he's gunna put it on IOS I'll gladly volunteer to test it out on my IPad if he needs testers.
