Shores of Hazeron - again! a free deep galactic MMO space game [Servers have been permanently shut

Haxus should not be trusted to make commercial games, holy shit.
why would haxus even think he would get any money off a stripped down hazeron? I don't know if there are even enough people that would like a game like gravity well to turn a profit.
Finding enough people who would pay for gravity well to populate a single server for a round is the real challenge.
Well, since people still talking here: Haxus released Gravity Well today. Yep its pay to play (2 bucks to buy and you buy additional stuff via microtransactions for space fighters).
Its honestly... not great, for sure (list of things that need improving: innumerable). And yep, would need lots of people to actually be on servers to play a round. Consider it a throw-away game more or less from him doing experimentation with monetization. He did say he wanted to do another game after this and somehow use gravity well and that other game to help fund Hazeron development, but I have no idea how that is going to turn out at all.

Watch how nobody is going to buy it and it shuts down within 2 months.
As long as he gets back to SoH as he seems to be implying I don't care what happens to the other games.

We all want SoH back.
We all do.
SoH will always be one the best game experiences for me. First time I found it here on FP, I played the whole night, reading through the wiki up and down, building my first city, made a lot of mistakes during that but after 10 hours of work I finally built my first rocket.
The sensation of taking off from the planet was probably the best feeling I had in a game in ages and it didn't stop there, designing my first real ship, managing colonies, exploring and all that made SoH one of most favorite games ever. I never bothered much with other empires or wars, just expanding and building/designing, that was SoH for me.
When I first started playing I joined the FP empire in the middle of huge war. FP was getting nailed by considerably higher TL enemies. I ran on board a few ships serving as a boarding troop and we actually stole a few high TL ships this way, which was hilarious and helped us a lot. But in the end I still had no idea what I was doing and without a captain to run with I was lost. So one FPer told me the best way to learn was to start on my own planet. Instead of starting my own empire, he dropped me off on a lifeless (but habitable) world and told me I'd be ready by the time I flew a ship back to empire space.
He was not kidding. Forging an entire solar system's worth of colonies with your barehands and a rocket was extremely satisfying, and when I finally built my first wormhole-capable ship, I came back to FP space a new man. Grabbed some tech discs and went home, put a space station on the planet nearest the wormhole, built my trade route to the capital, and then joined the neverending war.
What a great game. I'd love to see this kind of thing get made by someone who isn't a whiny manchild.

I'll say it, I hope someone swipes the idea from under Haxus. Because if Gravity Well is anything but an April Fools joke, Hazeron will most definitely be complete and utter shite under Haxus.
Haxus needs to make SoH open source or something

Haxus seems to look at it more like a piece of art than a game. I always got the "artiste" impression from him and the way he handled criticsm (as opposed to the way programmers should handle things).
I doubt he will willingly let his work take on a life of its own.

Even with that in mind I find Haxus to just be a despicable person. When I draw something or write something or whatever, I go in hoping that it will inspire someone and that someone will come along with valid criticisms. I don't just horde my shit and pretend I'm a genius.
Hazeron could've been the ultimate video game if it was done by someone who wasn't Haxus.

No City building though?
Shit me that game looks nice.
The art style looks alright and the gameplay is very promising.
I wonder what they've got planned for planets, and if they're planned at all.
Just played it. It has a Hazeron esque ship builder, although with more customization potential. You need to join or host a server, with a 64 player cap. So far as I can tell though, it's gonna be strictly space exploration with no empires or colonization. It's still no Shores, but by the time Haxus gets his shit together, hes gonna be left in the dust as more games like this pop up and eventually surpass what he did in a fraction of the time.

You know, i really prefer an single shard setting or at least regional servers to these individually hosted servers for this type of game. But then, you remember that hazeron only ever had like 50 players online at once and even then it ran like shit on like 12 separate blades it's not surprising nobody does this, it's impossible with today's hardware to do it cost efficiently.
still wish we had single shards tho.
Well, it was more of a suggestion if you like the ship builder.

I highly doubt Hazeron was a well optimized game in any regard.
It wouldn't surprise me if it kept running wildlife AI and synchronization even without a player on the planet to view it.
Haxus has apparently been convinced to brinng back Hazeron in a limited fashion: drastically fewer systems and server load, and let it sit while he works on his third game (before going back to it).

I may have been pursuaded to revive this beast. Give me two or three weeks, maybe a little more.
There was some discussion on the topic here.

Jesus I spoke too soon, hes finally starting to sound sensible.
WOO SUNDIVES FOR EVRYONE.
I vote for not calling our empire NeoCAS.
NeoNeoCAS on the other hand...

Plans for going from 81,000 sectors to 8100... Me gusto.

Well, does that mean there's going to be even more bloodshed?
Oh boy, I have the feeling my empire I build at a snail speed won't live very long.
Sandvich empire will once again assert our dominance by parking our flagship on top of NeoCAS' capitol building for a week.

Don't worry, Lordoflard leaves his ships parked there too.
Even with 8500 sectors thats STILL a bit of room, And I might finally be able to see the center of the galaxy.
I'm okay with less sectors. 8500 sounds about right for a game with this few players.
